Chapter 1711 The Hideout At Stake
Steven sized Davin up. He knew the latter was a devious man. A chance? A negotiation? Iâm sure it isnât that easy!
After weighing the situation over in his mind, he figured the matter would, without a doubt, impact Skylerâs reputation negatively if he chose not to agree with Davin. Consequently, it would affect the Maupay familyâs foothold in the business field.
It seems like I have to hear what Davin has to say.
âJust say it; what do you have in mind?â
After much deliberation, Davin replied, âSteven, Iâm sure my suggestion will benefit you too. Your son created such a big commotion last night. Thatâs why so many people are here today that even the underground palace canât fit all of them in anymore. Their purpose is to see me make a fool out of myself. Since Skyler is the one who created this mess, I think as his dad, you have a responsibility to help him resolve it, right? All you have to do is to agree to my term. Everything, including this sticky situation, those women your son planted around me to frame me, and him trying to sow discord between the Muir and the Seet family, will be resolved. What do you think? Trust me; youâll stand to benefit from this too.â
âDavin, enough said. Why are you even dragging the Muir and the Seet family in now? All I want to hear is the term you have in mind. What exactly do you want me to do?â
Seeing how calm and stable Steven appeared, Davin was unsure if the man would agree to it.
Forget it; Iâll have to convince him even if he doesnât want to agree.
âItâs simple; lend me the hideout for a month. Thatâs easy, right? Iâm sure you can afford this! I wonât place you in a difficult position. Just take it that your relative is here for a short vacation. What do you think?â
Let him stay at the hideout for a month?
Steven was puzzled. He could not wrap his head around why Davin would name such a condition.
âDavin, are you trying to act as if you own this place? Iâve already allowed you to make use of the underground palace. How could you still be so shameless to ask for the hideout? Are you treating my house as your own?â
âThatâs so petty-minded of you to say that. Iâve told you this is entirely for your good too. I need a place to accommodate those people that have made their way here because of Skyler. But youâll stand to gain since you need to help him save his reputation too. Itâs a term that benefits both of you. Iâm trying to help you resolve the tricky issue you have at hand now.â
Steven was dumbfounded. He could not believe that the man before his eyes could be so shameless in making absurd excuses sound logical.
âHelp me? Iâm becoming homeless soon, all thanks to you! Do you think youâre helping me?â
Not only did Davin pay no heed to Stevenâs words, but he also held his head high as he rebutted, âOf course I am! Itâs alright if you think Iâm not helping you in any way and donât wish to accept the term Iâve stated. But Iâll announce to everyone shortly that your son got women to come close to me in an attempt to frame me and sow discord between my wife and me. Iâll make sure everyone learns about your sonâs character before the Maupay family gets back up on its feet again. I wonder if thereâll still be anyone willing to work with someone like your son after learning about his deeds?â
Stevenâs eyes narrowed a fraction at this point. He sensed a hint of threat in Davinâs tone.
Well, it seems like he has come prepared! Right, he has been eyeing the hideout for a long time. Heâs obviously trying to take advantage of this situation!
Indeed, he had finally seized the perfect opportunity.
âSo what? Do you agree?â
âDavin, this isnât a small matter. If I canât stay here, then where else can I stay? Besides, weâre a big family; if you want all of us to move out, you have to give us ample time to find a place too!â
âThereâs room for negotiation. As long as you agree, Iâll take charge of this matter. I promise Iâll settle everything for you, including finding the perfect place and negotiating the rent for you. All you have to do is move in with the rest when the time comes.â
âRent? Youâre making me move out, yet you want me to pay rent? Arenât you going a little overboard, Davin?â
