Chapter 868 The Mysterious Man
âMr. Duncan, the authentication conference went very well,â said Paxton excitedly. He had predicted Catherineâs success based on her abilities but was still surprised by the news.
Even Branden was joyful. âBook a restaurant for me.â
âAlright, Iâm on it,â answered Paxton. He knew Branden would celebrate with Catherine tonight, so he hurried to arrange dinner and felt happy for her.
Brandenâs phone buzzed loudly just as Paxton was leaving. It was a message from the mysterious man. He sent a message asking Branden for a project after being missing for two days.
Branden didnât want to waste his time to text to useless people. He dialed the number. Soon, a woman answered his call. âMr. Branden, canât wait to reach me, huh?â
Branden lowered his eyes and said arbitrarily, âCut the crap. Iâm sick of your voice. What do you want?â
Branden could tell the person was using voice modification software to disguise himself. He could be a woman, or a man, or anything.
The person burst into laughter. âYou are very blunt, Mr. Duncan. You are aware that if these photos were exposed, it could have a destructive impact on Miss Swann, right?â
Brandenâs cold gaze became fierce. He asked, âWhat else do you have apart from the pictures?â
âNothing. And I know I canât incriminate her. But those pictures and videos are real, enough to ruin her life.
Iâm afraid she will live like a rat, hiding in the darkness,â said the person.
âDonât you dare!â Branden was provoked and warned him.
Regardless of his warning, that person was still arrogant. He laughed and smiled, âMr. Duncan, Iâm fully aware of your strength and love for your fiancée. So, I believe you will give me the land I want, right?â
âFine. You can have what you want. But how do I know if you have other copies of the pictures?â asked Branden.
âDonât worry about it, Mr. Duncan. If you give me the land, I will ensure you get what you want.â That person hung up. Branden stared at his phone coldly and wondered, âHow dare he threaten me with Catherine? Letâs if he can bear my anger.â
âCongrats! How about we celebrate together tonight?â Ultan suggested. He was full of joy right now.
Marshall also echoed, âThat sounds good. We should celebrate it. Iâll book a restaurant.â He was not much of a party person, but he felt like a celebration today.
Everyone looked at Catherine and waited for her response.
âCatherine, come with us!â said Rylan gently.
But Catherine refused immediately. âI canât go. I have an appointment tonight.â
Rylanâs face darkened instantly. He couldnât stand being rejected again and again.
Marshal noticed Rylanâs darkened face and tried to lighten the mood. He asked, âAre you going to have dinner with Mr. Duncan?â
âYeah,â Catherine admitted. She just got a message from Branden asking for dinner together.
Marshall laughed. âThatâs why you turn us down. Well, since you have a date with your boyfriend tonight, thereâs no reason not to let you go.â
While Marshall was talking, Rylanâs face was overcast with gloom. Ultan could not bear to watch anymore. He covered his eyes, lost in words.
Marshall saw Catherine off and then turned to Ultan and Rylan. âSo, just us now. Whatâs the plan?â
Rylan rejected him without any hesitation. âIâm going back to the company. Iâll see you around.â
Marshall shrugged when Ultan rolled his eyes at him. âYou know that love canât be forced. Forget about them.
Letâs have a drink and celebrate.â
The two of them had been colleagues and friends for years. Although they were in different positions, Ultan still felt happy for Marshall.
So he said, âThe drinks on you.â
âNo problem.â
âWhat did you say? Catherine made it?â Finnâs eyes widened at the news.
Ronin, who was sitting beside him, was not surprised at all.
Finn looked at him in confusion. âWhy arenât you surprised? Have you been aware of this all the time?â
Ronin sneered at him. âYou donât know her at all. You have no idea how talented she is.â
Ronin couldnât help but feel proud when he talked about Catherine. Finn had never seen him like this before. Even since Ronin surrendered, he had been totally different from before. Finn had little suspicion of him because he frankly showed his admiration for Catherine. If he ever tried to deny it, Finn would immediately suspect him.
âReally? If she is so great, why does she never try to rescue you?â Finn deliberately provoked him.
If this were before, Ronin would have fought with Finn for what he said. But he only smiled bitterly.
His silence failed Finn. He couldnât help but provoke him again. âYou little shithead! Have you finished what youâve been asked to do? Iâm gonna beat the shit out of you!â
Ronin threw the mouse away after hearing what he said. âGo ahead,â said Ronin.
But there was nothing Finn could do to him. âVery well. Just wait and see what would happen to you when you are totally useless to the boss.â With that, he left the room angrily.
Ronin picked up the mouse and sneered, staring blankly at the computer.
