Chapter 858 A Romantic Playboy
Branden received the news soon. Paxton intercepted the information and immediately reported it to Catherine.
âBoss, theyâve contacted Miss Swann,â Paxton said.
âWhat did they say?â Branden looked at Paxton. Paxton then showed Branden the email screenshot. âPlease take a look at this, Boss.â
Branden coldly remarked, âQuite audacious.â
âThese people want to take away half of Miss Swannâs research results with just one research report. Are they too confident?â Paxton was deeply puzzled, unable to understand the current situation. If he were one of them, he wouldnât have been so confident with just a research report. After all, Catherine wasnât someone to be trifled with.
Branden smirked after reading. âThey have more than just this.â
Paxton wanted to ask more, but sensing Brandenâs reluctance, he remained silent.
âHead to Styre University!â Branden stood up and instructed. Catherine should be finishing up soon. He would go pick her up and then take her to Audreyâs apartment.
Marshall found it strange that Catherine left on time. He had been worried sick these past few days. There was no news from Winston, and Catherine wasnât saying anything about the results of the experiment. He had expected Catherine to work overtime, but she seemed even more relaxed than usual. Unable to stay calm, he went out and stopped Catherine. âAre you planning to leave, Catherine?â
Catherine nodded.
âWhy so early?â Marshall asked, frowning.
Seeing his worried expression, Catherine explained, âProfessor Hartley, leave the lab matters to me. The school will do its best to find Professor Warner. You donât need to worry too much.â
With that, Catherine left.
Marshall couldnât shake off his worries. How could he not be concerned? He was so troubled that he couldnât even eat. At his age, he felt less composed than a young girl, which made him quite frustrated.
When Branden arrived, he messaged Catherine, who then walked straight to the black Bentley waiting outside the school. After she got into the car, Paxton handed her the investigation data. âMiss Swann, this is the investigation file on Brian White. Please take a look.â
Catherine took the file, quickly perused it, and then handed it to Branden, sneering. âTurns out heâs a rich second generation.â
Brian, born in Loewe, was from a well- known local business family. As the only son, he had been spoiled since childhood, destined to inherit the family fortune, leading to his reckless behavior. He fell in love with Audrey during her studies abroad and pursued her relentlessly, even following her back to the country. However, Audrey seemed uninterested and avoided him, which led to the scene at the airport and later at the apartment.
After reading the file, Branden remarked sarcastically, âA romantic playboy? Hahâ¦â They exchanged a knowing smile and fell silent.
Soon, the car arrived at the apartment building. Paxton, sitting in the front passenger seat, spotted a figure from a distance and alerted Catherine and Branden in the back. âMiss Swann, look,â he said.
Catherine looked up and saw Brian sitting on the curb, looking somewhat lonely despite his affluent appearance.
Paxton asked if they should enter through the main entrance, but Catherine dismissed the idea. âLetâs go through the underground parking,â she said, having no patience for unfamiliar people like Brian.
Audrey was resting in her room when the doorbell rang. She didnât answer it immediately. A few seconds later, her phone rang. Seeing it was from Catherine, Audrey eagerly picked it up and then went to open the door. â
Kathy, didnât I give you a key? Why are you still knocking?â
Catherine, accompanied by Branden, responded casually, âThe key is in the apartment. I didnât feel like going back to get it.â
Audrey had given Catherine the key, which Catherine had left in the apartment. If Audrey wasnât there, Catherine wouldnât have come without a reason. If something happened, she wouldnât need the key to enter.
Audrey let Catherine in and then politely asked Branden if he wanted to come in as well. He declined, saying, â Iâll leave you to a chat. Contact me if you need anything.â With that, he left.
Audrey closed the door and asked Catherine to sit down. âKathy, have you had dinner? If not, Iâll get you something to eat.â
âLetâs order takeout,â Catherine said calmly. Audreyâs cooking skills were known to no one better than her.
Audrey had casually suggested it. There wasnât much in the fridge, but thankfully Catherine didnât agree.
Audrey immediately took out her phone to order takeout, choosing the foods Catherine liked.
After placing the order, Audrey rummaged through the kitchen and found two bottles of wine. She opened one, poured two glasses, and handed one to Catherine. âLong time no see,â she said.
Catherine took the glass, took a sip, and then slowly began, âI ran into a
man downstairs who claimed to be your husband. He said his name is Brian White.â
Audreyâs brow immediately furrowed. She said with disdain, âThis guy is so annoying. Kathy, you donât need to listen to his nonsense. I have absolutely no relationship with him. He helped me out when I was at Loewe, so I thanked him by inviting him for a meal. But then he started pestering me. I couldnât shake him off, and now he even comes here.â
If it werenât for the unbearable situation at Loewe, Audrey wouldnât have returned to the country early. What she didnât expect was that Brian had followed her here, causing her a major headache.
