Chapter 651 Made a Comeback
Edson lay on the hospital bed. Originally, he was just slightly injured, but he fainted after receiving the phone call.
The assistant panicked and, with the help of a doctor, woke Edson up. The first thing Edson asked when he woke up was about the situation of the Duncan Corporation.
âWas that phone call just a dream?â Edson asked.
The assistant shook his head awkwardly and said, âBoss, the Duncan Corporationâs stock price did rise. The funds they got not only saved the group from the crisis but also caused the stock price to soar!â
Edson had been confident that he would ultimately defeat Branden and the Duncan Corporation. However, he did not expect such news at the critical moment, and now it was his turn to collapse. Even after confirmation from the assistant again, he still found the result hard to believe.
âWhat on earth is going on? How could the Duncan Corporation suddenly get funds?â He had cut off the support of the Lamberts and the Lanes, so how did Branden get help?
The assistant immediately reported the latest intelligence to Edson. âBoss, itâs the Skyline Fund.â.
âThe Skyline Fund?â Edson was familiar with this world-leading fund company. Although this fund company was very rich, such a huge trade war could exhaust its entire capital. How could the Skyline Fund go all out to help the Duncan Corporation? Those shareholders were not idiots. Who would be willing to take such a significant risk?
âThis is impossible!â Edson said firmly.
Seeing that Edson did not believe it, the assistant quickly explained the situation to him. âBoss, we just found out that the largest shareholder behind the Skyline Fund is Branden Duncan!â
âWhat?â Edson widened his eyes in disbelief and could not believe the news. He had thought that the Duncan Corporation was Brandenâs biggest reliance, but he did not expect that Brandenâs capital was higher than the Duncan Corporationâs.
âNo wonder I lost,â Edson said to himself. He had thought he had the game in the bag, but he did not expect to lose so badly. Now, the Duncansâ stock price was still rising, and every percentage point the stock index increased by meant that the Breens would lose 100 million dollars.
Watching the constantly rising data, he felt a surge of fury in his chest. Finally, he vomited blood and fainted again.
Catherine was taking a nap, and if it werenât for the sudden ringing of the phone next to her, she could have slept a little longer. Seeing that the incoming call was from Ronin, she answered the phone calmly. As soon as she picked up, she heard Roninâs urgent voice from the other end. âWe won, Catherine! We won!â
âWhat do you mean by âwe wonâ?â Catherine responded with a hoarse voice, showing she was running out of patience.
Hearing Catherineâs tone, Ronin realized that he might have disturbed her rest, causing him to break out in a cold sweat. âIâm sorry, Catherine. I didnât expect you to be resting. I just received news that the Duncan Corporationâs stock price is continuously rising, so I immediately contacted you!â
Catherine finally understood what Ronin meant. It turned out that Branden had won. In fact, she was not surprised that Branden would win the battle against Edson. Edson was formidable, but in front of Branden, Edson had no chance of winning unless Shane personally intervened.
âIs that all?â
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone, and Catherine was about to hang up when she heard Roninâs voice again. âCatherine, I just received intelligence that Shane is coming to Eskana next week!â
âHumph!â Catherine coldly snorted. â Edson has made such a big mess this time. Of course, he should come!â
âCatherine, should we make preparations in advance?â Ronin asked in an anxious tone.
Catherine coldly responded, âNo need!â
After hanging up the phone, Catherine got up and was about to have a drink of water. The door next to her opened before she could pick up the glass. She looked up and saw Branden, who had just returned, and their eyes met.
Branden had a calm expression, and there was no trace of emotion on his face. âWant to have lunch?â His familiar tone sounded as if they had been an old couple for many years.
Catherine had just gotten up and hadnât even had lunch yet. Upon hearing his proposal, she casually nodded and ordered a few dishes.
Branden took off his coat and was about to tidy up the kitchen when the phone placed at the entrance suddenly rang. He turned back to answer the phone, and the voice of Triston came through the receiver, exclaiming, âMr. Duncan, where are you? Letâs have lunch together!â
Branden frowned and coldly uttered two words. âNo time!â
Right before Branden hung up the phone, Triston seemed to have read his mind and immediately shouted anxiously, âDonât hang up! I havenât finished yet. Thereâs something I want to discuss with you. Iâve already reserved a table!â
âSince when did you have to make reservations for a meal, Triston?â
Branden murmured inwardly. âWho do you think youâre fooling?â Not in the mood to talk to Triston anymore, he was about to hang up when Catherine casually said, âWe can go out to eat.â
Branden immediately looked at her seriously. âDo you want to go out to eat?
Catherine didnât respond, but her actions answered the question.
Branden raised the phone and gave Triston an order. âSend me the address.
Half an hour later, Branden arrived at Golden Spoon with Catherine. Upon entering the private room, they found Aidan and Triston already there. Branden pulled a chair for Catherine and waited for her to sit before taking his seat.
The table was already filled with dishes, as Branden had informed Triston to order food before his arrival.
Knowing Branden was now wholly devoted to Catherine, Triston didnât dare to disturb him. He waited for a long time before Catherine picked up her fork and started eating. Then he asked Branden, âMr. Duncan, what happened between you and the Breens?
Branden elegantly peeled shrimp for Catherine and casually responded to Triston, âCanât you figure it out for yourself?â
It was already widely known that the Duncan Corporation had made a comeback. Triston naturally knew that Branden had won, but the battle had been too mysterious, and he couldnât quite understand it.
If Branden had been so confident from the start, why did he have to borrow money from Triston and Aidan, making them busy and worried that their families would drag the Duncan Corporation down?
These past few days, Triston and Aidan had been so troubled that they couldnât sleep well, and the result had shocked them to the core.
Getting no response from Branden, Triston had no choice but to ask again. â Mr. Duncan, since you have controlled the super-rich Skyline Fund, why did you need to borrow money from us?â
