Chapter 458 Who Is The Outsider?
Rachael noticed Catherine was indeed a jinx.
Her return only brought chaos to the Swanns. Rachael listened to her parentsâ advice and tried to get along peacefully with Catherine first. Then, when she successfully coaxed Catherine to hand over the Swannsâ assets, she could get rid of Catherine.
Unexpectedly, Catherine was stubborn and did not know how to get along with them. Rachael wanted to flare up, but it reminded her of her countless failed quarrels with Catherine.
Her husband failed to transfer the assets and had even been set up by this jinx, Catherine. Rachael got the advice from her family and planned to use another trick.
No one would want to be abandoned by their family. Otherwise, why would Catherine choose to return to the Swanns?
They could pretend to accept Catherineâs return. After getting the Swannsâ assets and placing them under Korbinâs name, they could deal with her later, which would be easy.
Rachael wept and lay in her husbandâs arms.
âHoney, look. Our daughter is blaming us for everything back then. I did not have a second choice. When your mother was still alive, she hated me so much because I gave birth to a daughter. You knew that, too.
âI did not expect my daughter would hate me so much.â
This lady even brought up her mother- in-law to make herself look innocent. Madam Swann was indeed part of why Catherine was sent to the countryside, but she would not have insisted if Rachael defended her.
The Swann family was wealthy, and raising another daughter would not be tough. Catherine looked at Korbin casually. When she saw him doing nothing, she knew how heartless he was. He did not mind tainting his motherâs reputation just for benefits.
Rachaelâs face flushed red as she sobbed. Droplets of tears flowed down her cheeks. She looked at Catherine as if she had suffered many griefs.
âCatherine, I know you are mad at us and think we have mistreated you. But you have to trust that we did all this for you.
âYou are young and donât know how to manage the familyâs business. Giving you the Swann Corporation would only bring loss. Itâs better to let your father manage it for you.
âWhat do you think?â
Loss?
Catherineâs brows furrowed. Although she did not like managing the business, each business she did was profitable.
She would never let herself lose any money. Rachael had looked upon her highly. She could never lose money. It was too challenging! Catherine looked at Rachael coldly. She spoke as she looked into Rachaelâsâ kindâ eyes, âWhat if I refuse?â
The repeated rejection had pissed Rachael off.
She glanced at Korbin secretly, giving him a signal. It was Korbinâs turn to act after remaining silent for long. His expression was cold as he stared into Catherineâs eyes.
âIf you refuse to agree and want to disobey us, donât blame me for using the hard way.â
Was threatening, and that cold and vicious gaze how one should treat their daughter?
No! That was more like treating his enemy.
Since his attitude was harsh, Catherine was less burdened. She lay on the headrest and squinted her eyes as she observed Korbin.
âThe hard way? Are you going to use those people you secretly trained to deal with me?
âHehâ¦â
Korbin was startled upon hearing her chuckle. He snapped out of his daze and observed Catherine with his lips pursed.
âWhat do you know?â
He was again shocked by Catherineâs words, not knowing what this girl knew about his secret. He had been careless before this and underestimated Catherineâs ability.
She had silently taken back the money he had transferred from the company. It made him wonder what the girl had allowed her to do.
His plan was disrupted, and she knew he had someone working for him.
Korbinâs heart sank. He felt he should get rid of Catherine soon. Catherine lifted her eyebrow and looked at her father meaningfully.
âIt depends on what you have done. Secrets canât be kept for long.â
Everyone in the big living room was silent.
Korbin sat silently as he observed Catherineâs expression.
From Catherineâs words, he noticed something strange.
It seemed he had to get rid of those people. Korbinâs expression turned gloomy, and his eyes turned cold.
Married for years, Rachael naturally knew what Korbinâs gaze meant.
It seemed that Catherine would be unable to leave the Swannsâ place today. Rachael helped Korbin keep Catherine calm, and Korbin had arranged for someone to keep Catherine imprisoned in the Swannsâ place.
Catherine sat on the sofa, feeling bored as she listened to Rachaelâs insincere words. Everything was going on as planned. Korbin thought Catherine was already under his control.
The butler came in suddenly.
âSir. Mr. Duncan is here!â
Korbinâs forehead puckered, and his expression was gloomy.
âWhy is he here?â
Branden walked in before Korbin could set any order. He walked toward Catherine. His gaze had been on Catherine and no one else.
âDo you want to leave?â The man stood beside Catherine and lowered her head as he asked her. Catherine leaned against the sofa, looking at the husband and wife acting. She was already bored.
Squinting her eyes, she nodded at Branden lazily.
Branden wanted to help her up.
However, something stopped him.
âAhemâ¦â Korbin cleared his throat, interrupting them. Branden turned around. His handsome face turned cold as he looked at Korbin.
âIs there anything else you want to say, Mr. Swann?â
Korbin did not show a welcoming attitude either.
âMr. Duncan, this is the Swannsâ place. Even if the Duncans are powerful, do you think itâs appropriate to take my daughter away from this place anytime you wish?â
Branden sneer.
It was a sarcastic remark, mocking Korbin for being a hypocrite. Rachael could no longer stand it. She asked, âBranden, what do you mean by sneering at us?â
Branden looked at the wife of the wealthiest man in Casier and spoke coldly, âDoes Kathy have anything to do with you? I remember you disowned Kathy years ago.â
Rachaelâs expression changed. The Swanns had done it discreetly, and no one knew. However, it was not difficult for the Duncans to investigate this. Branden cared so much about Catherine. So, he must know the truth.
Rachael glared at Branden in displeasure, maintaining her composure as Mrs. Swann.
âMr. Duncan, no matter what happened years ago, it is between us and Catherine. We are her parents. Why should you, an outsider, interfere in our matter?â
âAn outsiderâ¦?â Branden laughed, and he looked at Rachael ironically. âMrs. Swann, you are interesting.
âEveryone in Casier knows Catherine is my fiancee and will be my wife soon.
âDo you still think I am an outsider, Rachael?â
