Dimitriâs POV
I opened the door and walked into my office. I finally managed to pull myself together and I realized that the Alphasâ Meeting wasnât in three or four days.
It was tomorrow.
âWhere is Maddie?â Will asked as I closed the door.
âSleeping,â I said as I walked to my desk. âI didnât want to wake her up.â
I was reluctant to leave her, but Ellie assured me that she would keep her safe. I only left because I was close and I could go to her immediately if she needed me.
âHow is she doing?â Will asked worriedly. âShe looked a bit overwhelmed yesterday.â
I sat down and sighed.
âShe was,â I said. âI completely understand her, though. Sheâs been through so much in such a short time. I am overwhelmed and I canât even imagine what she is going through.â
Well, I felt her emotions so I knew a little bit about it. But knowing how someone feels and actually having to go through something like that were two completely different things.
Will nodded. âI agree. I was shocked yesterday and I didnât know how to react. I canât imagine how she must be feeling.â
I nodded and ran my fingers through my hair.
âShe is going to be okay,â I mumbled. âI will make sure of it.â
I wasnât going to let anything or anyone hurt her. I wasnât going to let anyone use her. I was going to make sure that she was safe.
âDid she talk to Skye?â Will asked me. âWhen will she shift?â
I sighed and furrowed my brows. I was so focused on Maddie yesterday and I didnât even remember to ask her about Skye.
âI am not sure,â I said. âI talked to Skol yesterday and he told me that Maddie was pushing Skye away.â
Will sighed and shook his head a little.
âShe needs time,â he said.
âShe does,â I agreed. âI wonât push her on it. She will talk to her when she is ready.â
Will nodded again.
I looked at the papers on my desk and took a deep breath. I had to work and my focus was terrible. I wanted to go back to my mate. I didnât want to be away from her for too long.
âDimitri,â Will called my name.
I looked up at him and furrowed my brows. I could immediately tell that something was wrong. Will had an apologetic look on his face and I didnât like it at all.
âWhat?â I asked, narrowing my eyes at him.
He took a deep breath and released it slowly.
âTim came to talk to me this morning,â Will said and I tensed up immediately.
Tim was one of the guards who was watching over my mother and Savannah.
âWhat did he want?â I asked even though I already knew what Will was going to say.
He sighed and tightened his jaw.
âYour mother asked to see you,â Will said and I could feel the anger pulsating inside my body.
I didnât want to see her. I would see her at her execution. I hadnât seen her since she was dragged out of my office and I didnât plan to go talk to her ever again. I hated her with every part of my body and soul.
âWell, she asked to see Maddie too,â Will added quietly.
My eyes widened and I could feel the anger exploding inside me. Every muscle in my body clenched. I felt like I was electrocuted.
Fuck no. Over my dead fucking body.
âNo,â I growled, trying to stop my canines from elongating. âShe will never breathe the same air as my mate. She will never lay eyes on her again.â
Will nodded. âI agree completely. I almost lost it when Tim told me that.â
I gritted my teeth.
âHe shouldnât have even asked,â I growled. âHe should have known that the answer would be no.â
Will sighed and rolled his eyes at me.
âCome on,â Will said with a hint of annoyance in his voice. âItâs not Timâs fault. He is just a guard, Dimitri.â
I knew that, but I was angry and I wasnât really choosing who to be angry at. I was angry at everyone.
I couldnât even believe that my mother had the courage to ask to see Maddie. I couldnât believe that she would even think that I would agree. I would have to be a huge fucking idiot to let something like that happen. My mother and Savannah would never lay eyes on my mate again. They would never hurt her again.
âMaybe you should go talk to her,â Will said quietly.
I looked at him wide-eyed. Was he fucking insane?! I never wanted to see that bitch ever again!
Will sighed and ran his fingers through his hair.
âI know that you donât want to see her, Dimitri, but I want to know what she has to say,â Will said.
I clenched my fists and narrowed my eyes at him.
âYou are free to go see her then,â I said angrily. âI wonât be joining you. I donât give a fuck about what she has to say.â
Will sighed again.
âArenât you a little bit curious?â he asked. âI want to know why she did it. I am not buying all that crap about Maddieâs mother.â
âI donât give a fuck,â I said. âShe did it and she is going to be punished. Thatâs it.â
Will furrowed his brows and crossed his arms over his chest.
âBut what if she knows something?â he asked. âShe chose to torture Maddie for a reason. What if she knows something about Maddie?â
My heart raced.
âLike what?â I mumbled, gritting my teeth.
âI donât know,â Will shrugged. âI just donât believe that she did it just because Maddie looks like her mom. What did she think that Mike was going to go after Maddie? She is his daughter, for Goddessâ sake. Itâs a stupid excuse and I think that there has to be another reason why she went after Maddie.â
I clenched my fists.
Fuck.
He was right.
âJust one talk, Dimitri,â Will added after a few moments of silence. âIt canât hurt.â
I gritted my teeth again.
Fuck, fuck, fuck. I really didnât want to do it.
But Will was right. There could have been another reason and I had to find out what it was. I had to find out if she knew anything. I had to do everything I could to protect my mate.
