Bother You With My Shit
â ï¸ Nathan's P.O.V. â ï¸
As we walk closer to my house, I listen to the soft sniffles coming from the girl beside me.
Every little noise that she makes is breaking my heart, making me grip her hand tighter. We stand before the front door, and I unlock it with the key in my pocket.
Thankfully, Ella is still asleep.
I guide Opal to the living room and let her sit on the couch. Then, I quickly rush upstairs to my room to make my bed. I fix my pillows and my sheets, something I don't usually do, and I pull out a few softer blankets from the closet in the hallway. I lay them on the bed to make it look comfortable.
Once I'm done, I make my way down the stairs, and find her staring blankly at her feet. Even though there's tears streaming down her delicate face, she's still beautiful.
But like they say, 'beauty hurts'. And this beauty hurts like a bitch.
"Opal," I say in the silence, slowly walking up to her.
"Hmm?" She replies, keeping her eyes down.
"You tired?"
She's silent for a moment, before nodding her head.
I walk over to her and tell her to get on my back. She slowly gets on, and I carry her upstairs.
I walk into my room and slowly set her down on my bed.
"You can sleep here," I tell her. "I'll sleep on the couch downstairs."
I lightly plant a kiss on her forehead and turn around to leave, when she grabs my hand.
"I don't want to be alone right now," she says quietly.
My heart beat is racing as her hand touches mine, but I don't say a word.
I take a deep breath and nod my head. I sit beside her, as she wraps one of the blankets around her legs.
"Does your mom know where you are?" I ask.
She shrugs in reply. I watch as she pulls out her phone from the pocket of her hoodie. Surprisingly, she lets out a bitter chuckle at the screen. "23 text messages and 6 missed calls."
Her phone starts ringing, and she sets it on my nightstand, ignoring it. "Make that 7 missed calls."
I let out a tired sigh. "Opal, just get some rest."
"But I don't really want to sleep right now," she mumbles. "Not with all these things going through my head."
I sit next to her quietly, not really knowing what to say.
"You know the questions that I'm thinking in my head right now?"
I glance up at Opal, and she's staring back at me with tired eyes. I keep silent to let her continue.
"What if-," she stops and takes in a deep shaky breath. "What if Ruby cried alone when no one was there for her? And did my dad even miss me?"
It's so strange seeing her like this. Her usual confidence seems to have never existed. And it's breaking the little fucking heart that I probably have.
Her quiet chuckle interrupts my thoughts.
"Sorry if I'm bothering you with my shit," she says, running her fingers through her hair.
I really wanted to just grab her face and kiss her, just to make it all better. But I don't want to bother her with my shit either.
Damn, I sound hella sappy.
"Wanna hear a joke?" I ask, breaking the awkward silence.
She nods her head slightly.
"Why did the chicken cross the road?"
She starts to laugh, and it's doing weird things to the butterflies in my stomach. "Nathan, shut up."
I pull a smile on my face. "Just say 'I don't know'."
"Fine. I don't know," she says, rolling her eyes.
"To get to the other-," I stop for dramatic effect, "side."
She's laughing hard as hell now, and I can't help but laugh with her.
"You know I'm only laughing because you sounded stupid," she wheezes.
I smile and lean in closer. "Well, it's good to know that I make you smile, Minnie Mouse."
She just shoves my shoulder playfully, and I can't help but beam happily.

I rest a blanket over Opal, who's snoring softly on my bed.
I quietly head down the stairs and take a quick glance at my phone. 1:47
I let out a sigh. Mom would kill me if she knew I was still up.
A loud knock is heard at the door, catching me off guard.
I know my mom has her own keys, so who the hell is this? I creep up to the door and slowly open it.
Vince stares at me with wide eyes, looking terrified.
"What are you doing here?" He asks me.
"Shouldn't I be asking you that?" I question back.
"Isn't this Opal's house?" He asks me, completely lost. "Why the hell are you even around her, man?"
"Leave my house before I call the cops."
That's when Vince sizes me up real quick, probably deciding if he should just walk away or stay here and throw punches at me. Not that they'll even land on me or anything.
Thankfully, he starts walking away, and I shut the door.
I let out a sigh and make my way to the living room. I lay on the couch, and soon enough, I'm fast asleep.
