âSir, âm a doctor from Birmingham Hospital, and my name is Vincent,â a young male doctor said to Matthew flatteringly.
Nodding, Wayne sat down and drained his glass of wine. It was evening, and the sound of birds chirping outside added to the eerie atmosphere.
Gabe walked around the station, stood next to Wayne and whispered, âI asked around, and all the doctors are new here. They only arrived here three days ago, but only that doctor named Vincent is always here. He was drunk, and | got some information from him.â Wayneâs eyes lit up, and he asked, âWhat did he say?â
âMiss Gabriel did stay here for a while, but we were too late. She left three days ago with the previous group of volunteers. And it looks like thereâs a conflict between Vincent and her. That doctor hinted to me to let us transfer him back to Birmingham. What do you think?â Wayne said coldly, âOf course not.â
Gabe coughed awkwardly and replied, âI see.â
Wayne was depressed. He came here to see Anna, but she was not there. Iâs a big world, but Emily was able to meet Anna while she was on a mission at this small aid station. He found an excuse to travel from afar but did not see her. As a result, he thought that maybe, they were not meant to be together.
A month later, it was summer, and the weather was scorching. Anna stood at the airport exit in her white dress, staring at her watch. Isabellaâs plane had arrived long ago, but she still didnât come over. At the moment, â388 Missing You Anna had no idea what was going on. She waited for a long time until calling Isabella.
It took Isabella a long time to answer the phone and say, âAnna!â
âHas your plane arrived yet? Where have you gone?â
âTake it easy, Anna. Iâm in the airport security office. Thereâs been a little accident here, and Iâll be out as soon as | resolve it.â
âWhat? Did you get into trouble?â
âNo!â
âStay right there! Iâm coming over now!â
Anna went straight to the security office after hanging up the phone. Isabella called Anna about a week ago. She said she was on summer vacation and wanted to spend some time in England. So, Anna took a half-day leave from the hospital after booking Isabellaâs flight.
Isabella grew up on the island and she was always bold and daring. She was even more daring after living with Jasper, knowing there would always be someone to look after her. However, they werenât in America, so Anna didnât think sheâd be able to fix everything if Isabella got into trouble here.
Then Anna entered the airport police lobby and saw a girl with dreadlocks on her head as soon as she opened the door. She was wearing a colorful tie-dye t-shirt and ripped jeans.
âIsabella Thomas!â Anna said unhappily.
Isabella looked back, smiled and asked, âWow! How did you get here so fast?â
âCut the crap! Tell me, what have you gotten yourself into again?â
Isabella denied eagerly, âI didnât! | swear to God Iâm not in trouble! |was helping someone.â â388 Missing You âYou say that every time!â
Isabella scratched her head and said, âItâs different this time. If you donât believe me, you can ask the police.â
Anna looked at the few police officers and said awkwardly, âExcuse me, what did she get herself into this time?â
A female police officer smiled gently and said, âYou misunderstood this young lady. She didnât get herself into trouble. Actually, she helped someone.â
The policeman then told Anna about the incident. Isabella had noticed a man attempting to put his hand inside the little girlâs skirt as she got off the plane half an hour earlier. She rushed up and tried to stop him. The man became embarrassed and then began hitting her. Hearing that, Anna got anxious. She spun Isabella around and asked anxiously, âAre you all right? Are you hurt, Isabella?â Isabella shrugged indifferently and said, âDonât worry! Nothing happened to me at all. He didnât beat me hard, and I held him down.â Anna was relieved to see that Isabella was actually okay. She said, âI was really scared! What else are you going to do here?â âItâs okay, you just have to sign here.â
After they had left, Anna took Isabellaâs suitcase and said, âYouâre seventeen, and youâll be an adult soon. I told you that if something like this happens, you can call the police. You donât have to face it yourself.â
âOh, Iâm fine! Can you please stop nagging like a mom?â
Anna said, âTechnically, Iâ m your mom.â
Isabella smiled as she wrapped her arm around Annaâs shoulders and said, âI wouldnât have a mother as young and beautiful as you. Youâre always my sister in my heart.â 388 Missing You âHuh? Really? But yo used to call me mom,â Anna laughed as she was flattered. She didnât care what Isabella called her but just lectured her for a few minutes.
Then Anna asked, âYou said you saved the girl, what about her? Did she thank you?â
âI was afraid sheâd be embarrassed, so | let her go,â Isabella explained as she buckled her seat belt.
âWow! You look exactly like one of those lady knights.â
âYeah!â
Anna couldnât help but laugh. After they left the airport highway, Anna asked, âHonestly, why did you call me out of the blue? You rarely said you wanted to come back before.â
Isabella didnât say anything.
Anna glanced at her and said, âIâm asking you. If you donât tell me, Iâll send you back to America right now.â
Isabella grabbed the armrest and said, âNo! Iâm not going back to America!â
âDid you have another fight with Lily?â Anna asked.
Isabella was a wild child who had grown up on the island and had a distinct personality and temperament. As a result, she thought differently than others. On the other hand, Lily was a serious person concerned about her reputation.
They used to argue about Isabellaâs behavior after she and Jasper married, Isabella was still a child and Jasperâs legally adopted daughter. So Jasper wouldnât blame her if she made a mistake. But, over time, she became the source of conflict in their marriage.
Anna knew it before. When she heard about it, she offered to take â388 Missing You Isabella to live with her on a French farm.
But Jasper turned her down, and Isabella didnât want to do that. So, Anna said nothing more.
Isabella finished the classes she had missed the year before and was. sent to boarding school by Jasper. As a result, she stopped causing problems for them. But she got into trouble again right after her summer vacation.
âLily is actually a good person, so you donât have to fight with her all the time. Iâve talked about this with you. Donât play dumb, okay? I know What youâre thinking.â
Isabella asked nervously, âYou know that?â
âYouâre afraid Jasper and Lily will neglect you after they have a baby,â Anna said, looking straight ahead.
