Adaâs voice seemed to sweep through the air like a plane making noise. Then it vanished.
Meanwhile, Anna just frowned and didnât go on arguing with her.
The dinner party went extremely well, much to Annaâs surprise. Furthermore, Richard never mentioned purchasing her familyâs business.
At nine oâclock at night, the men all exchanged glances and offered to continue drinking elsewhere. Anna knew where they were going and said, âOkay, you guys go ahead then. Iâm sorry, but Iâll pass. | have to go home and take care of my kids.â
Richard immediately said, âAnna, let me take you home then.â
Except for Richard, almost everyone at the table was drunk by that point. Anna looked at the glass in his hand suspiciously but saw nothing wrong with it.
Anna said, shaking her head, âThank you, but | am fine. | believe it would be best if you take Ada home with you. Donât worry, my driver will come and get me.â
Richard gave her a brief glance before smiling. His smile, however, made Anna uneasy.
He said, âIsnât your driver occupied with something else? Youâre not comfortable being alone with me, | see. No, youâre overthinking. Iâll have my driver pick you up. I still need to go to the bar with my buddies.â
Richard was correct: Annaâs driver did take time off. Anna didnât dare to refuse it because there were so many businessmen around. She couldnât tell everyone about her and Richardâs feud, or sheâd lose a large group of potential customers.
Anna weighed the pros and cons and eventually agreed Then Richard smiled and said to others, âGuys, can we send Miss Gabriel to the door now? We only have one lady here, and we need to make sure she gets home safely.â
Hearing that, a few managers from Gabrielâs group who were there with Anna nodded. Mona was the only one who was anxious about that and kept winking at Anna.
Mona knew they were bitter enemies, so she didnât trust Richard and had no idea where his driver would drop Anna off. And she even suspected that Richard was up to no good.
Following that, everyone joined Richard in walking Anna to the hotelâs entrance.
His driver had already parked the car there at the time.
Richard pretended to be a gentleman and opened the car door for Anna. He said in a weird tone, âLady first.â
âNo, itâs better for you to get in first,â Anna said after seeing the person sitting in the car.
âAre you going backwards? You know, a businessman should never break his word. An âHuh? | believe you are the one who went back on your word!â The woman in the car said in a shrill tone, interrupting Richardâs words.
Ada, who was standing behind Anna, became pale immediately.
The woman, wearing classic Christian Louboutin high heels, stepped out of the car.
She smacked the Hermes bag into Richardâs face and yelled, âScrew you! Richard, youâre so shameless! Iâve already told you that youâre not allowed to see your mistress again! How dare you bring her to this party! Did you take me seriously or not?!â
Richard was extremely embarrassed. He then exclaimed, âStop it! What are you doing here?â
The woman pointed at Ada, who was standing next to Anna, and then angrily snapped, âShut the fuck up! | just want to know why the hell sheâs here!
âAdal Iâm going to ruin your face! Iâve known for a long time that youâve been flirting with my husband! You know what, Iâm going to strip you naked today!â
Ada struggled and yelled, âAre you insane? Let go of me! Richard and | are just friends! â
âShut up! Who the f**k believes that? â
The two women then began to fight.
At the same time, the drunken crowd gathered around them as if they were watching a show, and some even laughed.
Richard was embarrassed and felt he had never been so humiliated in his life He said to the driver, âHey, stop watching! Get my wife out of here!â
As Anna was standing in the crowd and watching them fighting, a man suddenly grabbed her wrist.
And the man had pulled her out of the crowd before she could scream.
Anna took two steps after the man before realizing he was Wayne.
She immediately became overjoyed and said, âAh! Oh, Wayne. Hilâ
She stopped, smiled, and asked, âGee, when did you get here? You nearly scared the hell out of me!â
Wayne smiled at Anna before approaching her and asking, âHow much have you drunk tonight?â
Annaâs eyes appeared to be filled with stars when she smiled.
She explained, âNot much, | only drank half a glass of wine. You know, Mona drank the rest for me. Sheâs really good at drinking.
â
Wayne removed his grey cashmere scarf and wrapped it around her neck, and then smiled and said, âOkay, letâs give her a pay raise, shall we?â
When he was finished, he tucked Annaâs hand into his pocket. They then walked down the street together.
He asked, âWe should go back on foot. The cold wind can help you sober up.â
Anna walked faster to catch up with him.
Then she smiled and echoed, âOkay. But | donât have to sober up at all. What brought you here? Did you tell Richardâs wife to come here?â
âHow did you know?â
â| didnât even know Ada was coming. And Richard certainly didnât tell anyone about it. | think that you only found out about it because I told you on the phone.â
Wayne did not deny it but instead smiled wickedly.
He didnât like meddling in other peopleâs affairs, no matter how many mistresses Richard had. He knew, however, that Richard would not let Anna return home safely tonight.
The Carousel Group had recently been looking for trouble with the Gabriel Group, and he reasoned that it would be better to take the initiative to strike first.
âOh, | forgot to ask what you and Peter were talking about. Tell me, will you?â Anna changed the subject.
âJust the usual. Well, he was pressuring me to return to work at the group.â
âOh? Really? So, how about Richard?â
âRichard will be fired as soon as | return to the group, according to my grandfather. Furthermore, he will never get to work for the group anymore.â
â| see, What do you think of it?â
When Anna noticed Wayneâs calm and collected demeanor, she knew heâd refused his grandfather yet again.
Wayne replied as she had expected, âI didnât say yes to him. Since | want him to leave the group, | have to make him leave for good.â
Wayne said and then squeezed Annaâs hand in his pocket.
