Ryan was so shocked that he almost couldnât a single word.
When he noticed Annaâs suspicious expression, he could only nod and say, âOh, yes, itâs my mother.â
Meanwhile, he thought, But /âm actually referring to YOU, Anna. Why canât you see it?
âOh, the dreaded Oedipus complex. You know, a lot of girls do mind their boyfriends have that complex. Iâm going to the office now, bye.â Anna said as she reached for her bag.
âLet me walk you,â Ryan said as he stood up.
Anna waved her hand, and then pointed to the kitchen and said, âOh, no, you donât have to do that. Emilyâs gone to get your pizza, hasnât she? You should wait here for her. Donât worry, | can walk out on my own.â
Anna then picked up her bag and walked out of the cafe.
Emily came back after a while. As she placed the steaming pizza on the table, the iron tray clattered against the table.
Emily asked, âWhereâs your sister?â
Ryan said, âYou scared the hell out of me! Can you not be so rude?â
Emilyâs smile vanished as soon as Ryan said those words. She gave him a vicious glare before saying, âIf you donât want to eat it, then donât! | can bring it home and feed it to my dog!â
âOh my goodness! Youâre so rude! Itâs no surprise youâve never had a boyfriend!â
âDonât worry, youâre the very last man Iâll ever marry!â
Hearing that, Ryan froze, and then he remembered what Anna had just said to him. Then, he smiled and lowered his head.
Bewildered, Emily asked, âWhat are you laughing at?â Ryan kept his head down and ate his pizza without saying anything.
However, he didnât notice that Emily flushed when she looked at him.
This allowed Emily to get a good look at him.
She thought, Ayan, Damn! How could you be so good-looking? Youâre far more attractive than those boys in my class.
ee When Anna returned to the office, she went straight to Andrew and asked, âHow is this order going?â
âDonât worry, Iâve asked the factory to do it. The Joan Group has given us a month to finish all of the clothes, which | believe is a very short period of time. Iâm concerned that if itâs rushed like that, the clothes will be subpar. As a result, we must let employees stay in the factory on a daily basis and keep an eye on them.â
âSo, do we have to send someone who is very knowledgeable about clothes?â Anna inquired.
âYes, we can only send designers to keep an eye on them,â Andrew nodded.
Anna became concerned and said, âSo, are you able to go there? You must be preoccupied with the design competition these days, right?â
Andrew had signed Lemonâs design team up for a national clothing competition to make them more famous. So, Andrew and the rest of the team had been working on new designs for a few days.
Andrew stated confidently and calmly, âDonât worry, the competition is simple. Besides, we donât need people to work in the factory twenty- four seven. We simply have to go there every day.â
Anna realized Andrew might have already planned this, and she said, âWell, then. Iâll let you handle this.â
Andrew nodded and walked away. He planned to work out a shift schedule so the designers could work better in the factory.
Anna regarded Andrew as the most hard-working and meticulous employee in the company and admired him for it.
Mona approached her as she was leaving Andrewâs office and reminded Anna that she had to attend a reception hosted by AW the following evening.
âAnna, are you going there by yourself?â Mona asked.
âHuh? You donât think Iâll be able to find a date?â Anna asked, her gaze drawn to Mona. Mona paused before asking, âYouâre planning to take Mr. Wright with you, arenât you?â âYeah.â âWell, no offense, but | donât think itâs a good idea...â Anna paused and looked at Mona in surprise.
Mona immediately responded, âPlease do not take anything personally, but | just think a lot of people enjoy making fun of others.
You are aware that Mr Wright has previously offended many businessmen, arenât you?â
âKeep talking,â Anna said, curious about Monaâs thoughts.
Mona was silent for a few seconds as if she was considering how to phrase it.
She stated, âMr. Wright is no longer the Carousel Groupâs CEO, but rather our Groupâs treasurer. He will run into someone he knows if he attends this reception. You know, Mr. Wilson and his brother are all rivals of Mr. Wright. So, if he goes there, | believe he will be embarrassed. Plus, people might say mean things about you two.â
Mona had tried to be as euphemistic as possible.
Anna knew that most of the people in this circle were cruel. So, they would probably taunt Wayne if they saw him.
Wayne was a proud and confident man and had never been as down on his luck as he was now. As a result, Anna was concerned that he would be unable to handle the situation. âThank you, Iâll think about it.â She expressed her gratitude to Mona.
Mona sighed with relief and said, âGreat. You know, | was afraid youâd be upset.â
âHow long have you worked at the Gabriel Group?â Anna asked as they both made their way to the office.
âItâs been five years.â
Anna was taken aback and asked, âWhat? So, why are you...?â
She didnât finish the sentence because she thought it was inappropriate. She was, however, at a loss as to how to say it differently. As a result, she had to come to a halt.
Mona didnât seem to mind what she said.
âYou want to ask me why Iâm still just a junior secretary after working here for so long, donât you?â she said with a smile.
Anna nodded awkwardly.
Mona appeared embarrassed and stated, âThatâs because | didnât even finish high school. After graduating from junior high five years ago, | was ready to work. My uncle contacted your father and convinced him to let me work here. Despite the fact that my grandmother was also a Gabriel, she was only a distant relative to your father. It already makes me happy to be a secretary here.â
Anna understood what she meant and comforted her, âThatâs fine. You can definitely get somewhere if you work hard enough.â
When Anna first joined the Gabriel Group, she requested that a secretary be assigned her as her assistant.
Being an assistant in the Gabriel Group was difficult, and the pay was low. Furthermore, finding someone attentive and sophisticated was difficult.
Fearing that Anna would impose her will on the entire Group, the Gabriel Group board of directors chose some of their family members, including Emily Lewis.
âThank you very much, Anna.â With her head bowed, Mona said.
Anna realized Mona was mature and she had always been calm. So, that was why she had chosen Mona to be her assistant.
In the afternoon, Anna accompanied Andrew to the factory.
Andrew was correct; the factory workers were not meticulous about their work. As a result, some of the clothes were subpar and had to be redone.
Andrew was furious and even called the factoryâs owner.
âWhatâs going on here?â
Andrew looked at the owner coldly, threw all the fabric in his hands on the floor, and said, âAre you questioning me? Is this what you mean by âhigh qualityâ?â
