Wayne looked at Anna and said, âItâs late at night, and you two have been alone in your house for quite some time. And I wonder what you two were doing.â
Anna stood a little steadier, held the table and frowned, âWayne, please calm down. Jasper and I are really just friends, and nothing happened between us. He had just returned from America and helped me at my fatherâs funeral. He gave me a ride home, so I invited him upstairs for a cup of coffee to thank him. Do you think I did something wrong? It doesnât matter how much I explain it to you if you donât trust me.â
Anna figured that Wayne wasnât a narrow-minded person, so he wouldnât mind this. She didnât expect him to lose his temper like that after seeing Jasper.
âReally? Are you two really just friends? Could you repeat that to me?â âYes, weâre really just friends.â
Wayne clenched his fist, and then his expression turned gloomy. He then found a picture on his phone and slammed it down heavily on the table. The phone clashed with the marble table, making a loud sound that echoed through the room.
Annaâs expression suddenly changed as she saw what was on his screen. âYou ran a background check on me?!â Anna exclaimed.
It was information about Anna when she was in the U.S., as well as proof of marriage and the family portrait with Jasper and Tammy.
âIf I hadnât looked into you, how would I have known that you are married to Jasper? And I didnât expect you guys to be still in touch now!â
Wayne then said mockingly, âSo, in your eyes, men are just some tools that you can use to have s*x with and have children with.
Well, it seems that you treat your friendsâ really well.â
Hearing that, Annaâs face turned pale, and she couldnât believe what she had just heard. She said, âWayne, what are you talking about?!â
âWhat? Anna, are you still playing dumb now? I finally know that the ex-husband you were talking about is Jasper! No wonder you never told me about him! I thought your marriage was a big failure and that you were hurt by him. Now, I finally realize that I was an i***t who was fooled by you!â Wayne said angrily, and his voice echoed through the room.
Anna immediately became anxious. She defended herself by saying, âThatâs not the case! Wayne, please calm down and listen to me, okay? Jasper and I are just a nominal couple... We just...â
âYou just what?â
âThe only reason I married him was to get a green card! That way, I could legally live in the United States.â
Anna said aloud anxiously. Although she was annoyed with Wayneâs angry reaction, she didnât want him to misunderstand her anymore. So, she felt that she had to explain that matter clearly.
To Annaâs surprise, Wayneâs smile became even more contemptuous and indifferent. He said, âReally? You really can do that for a green card? Well, it seems that you can do anything for money.â
After a while, Wayne took a big breath, as if trying to calm down. He said, âI hope youâll think about what youâre going to say next time before you lie. This is so ridiculous! You said that you and Jasper were just friends and that you got married just for the green card. So, who is Tammyâs father? How many men have you been married to?â
Anna instantly felt a chill running down her spine and all over her body. She closed her eyes and knew she couldnât control her rage any more.
Anna thought to herself, Wayne, youâre the last person on the planet who get to ask me who Tammyâs father is like that because YOU ARE her father! You got me pregnant without even asking for my permission! And now youâre acting like youâre the victim.
How dare you?!
However, Wayne had no idea what was going on in Annaâs mind.
Anna became more and more annoyed and angry as she raised her clenched fist out of frustration and humiliation.
She wanted to give Wayne a slap.
Wayne, on the other hand, responded immediately and grabbed Annaâs wrist in the next second.
Wayne grunted coldly, and then said, âAre you angry? Itâs because I revealed the truth, isnât it? I always thought of you as a strong woman, Anna. And I wasnât expecting you to beat me because you couldnât think of a way to make up for your lie.â
Anna immediately struggled to break free from his grasp. However, she didnât expect Wayneâs grip on her hand to become tighter. She said, âWayne, youâre such a jerk! Let go of me!â
Wayne tugged Annaâs wrist even tighter to bring her closer to him. He said indifferently, âYouâll do anything for money, wonât you?
Youâre even willing to have a baby for some guy, right? Will you have a baby with me if I help you expand your Lemonâs market share?â
Anna became enraged and punched Wayne in the chest with her other hand. âGet the fuck out of my house or Iâll call the police!â
she exclaimed.
âWhat did you just say?â After taking a few steps back, Wayne asked in disbelief, his eyes wide open.
âI said, GET THE F**K OUT or Iâll call the police!â Anna said through gritted teeth, trembling in anger.
Sneering, Wayne thought to himself, so, Anna, is this what you think of me? Am I only a tool to you that can be dumped right after you get tired of me? Youâre the first woman that Iâve ever fallen in love with, and I believed that you were the one for me. But it turns out that I was so wrong!
Gosh! How could I be so stupid, thinking that a woman like you would love me back wholeheartedly? Of course, you wonât love me back like I love you! After all, youâre still married to Jasper and you have a daughter with him!
But how... how could you be so cruel to me, Anna?! You knew that I loved you... YOU KNEW IT!
Having collected himself, Wayne said in a low voice, âFine! iâll get out of your house, but on condition that you explain everything clearly to me. Otherwise, Iâm not leaving!â
âNo... .... I canât...â Anna stuttered.
Noticing that Wayne was glaring at her with a darkened face, Anna felt extremely flustered and annoyed at the same time.
She tried to calm herself, thinking, Donât I know that I owe you an explanation? Of course, I do!I know exactly how it feels to be betrayed because I was once betrayed by my exâboyfriend. And I know that I should be honest with you.
But... Wayne, youâre the one who turned by life upside down by sleeping with me against my will when I was drugged six years ago! I could have gone to Greek to have Greek yogurt by the sea or looked down at Paris on the top of the Eiffel Tower. I could have done a lot of things that I wanted to do a long time ago and achieved my dream. But you just took these away from me!
Do you know that I actually cried almost every night after I found that I was pregnant and had no choice but to be your surrogate?! And do you know how much I wanted to go back in time and erase the fact that I met you on that âspecialâ night?!
And I did those things because I want to protect Tammy and that I donât want her to be hurt time and time again just like Matthew, which is why I canât tell you the whole truth!! kept so many secrets from you because Iâm afraid of you, Matthew. And yet, Iâm in love with you...
After a while, Anna finally regained her composure. Then she said, âWayne, Iâm warning you one last time. Get out.â
With that, she picked up her phone, tapped on the screen and said, âHello, I need help. I live on the 22nd floor in Season Garden. A Caucasian male just broke into my house. Please hurry!â
Hearing that, Wayne was too shocked to say a word as it had never occurred to him that Anna would actually call the police.
Then he shook his head angrily before slamming the door and leaving.
After Wayne left, the house fell silent.
Anna let out a sigh of relief and flopped on the ground. And she dropped her phone, whose screen showed that she wasnât actually calling the police. She was just bluffing.
