It truly was a sight, a mass of rogue wolves so large working together for one common goal. The only issue was I didn't understand their goal completely; too many possibilities and reasons for them to target the Mist Valley pack. Draw out the assassins? Weaken one pack at a time whilst simultaneously gaining members that would fall rogue due to their poisonous saliva. But this didn't hinder my team nor I from our own goal, eradicate these wolves before they cause more damage.
The wall of rogues slammed into my group of assassins, I must admit however they did most of the work for us. They clawed and ripped at each other eager to be the ones to kill us. My team moved easily, forming a circle, my own form staying in the center as I waited patiently for the mass of wriggling rogue wolves encircled is completely. Satisfied, I took that as the time to shift, which would be the signal for the Mist Valley pack warriors to go and trap the rogues. Essentially flanking them and forcing them to fight two enemies at once.

I saw with my wolf's eyes the mass of warriors spill from the shadows, encircling the army of rogues. This made them frantic, rage pushing them to fight harder. Growling, I finally launched into action. My canines snapping into the hind leg of a male rogue who had been readying himself to launch into Madelyn. Hearing the crunch of bones paired with the flooded warmth of his thin oily blood, I shake vigorously while my front paws tear open the soft flesh of his belly. The contents of his inside spill onto the concrete, I knew the cleanup team wouldn't be very happy.
As if thinking the same thing, Alpha Reinhardt must've given the order to his members still in human form to toss the molotovs. The immediate wall of flames that bursted into the scene meant one thing, we were short on time. Soon the commotion would draw attention from the humans and someone would call for the fire department. Moving quicker, I dispatch of wolves, ignoring the screeching cries of the wolves as they thrash on the ground on fire.
Seconds later I hear the sirens and ambulances, luckily Reinhardt and I had estimated the time of arrival and by the looks of it we'd be right on schedule. We had alerted a human, one who was aware of our existence, to the events of tonight and he already agreed to help cover it up. Apparently there had been rumors of gang turf wars and this would be the final show down. I guess that's how they explained away the rogue killings of humans.
I was tearing through the last few when I heard Madelyn's cry. I stopped mid step, snapping my gaze over to see Tyler and now Austin in his wild form defending Madelyn. The amount of bite wounds alarmed me, snarling I launch into their direction crashing into three rogues who had taken it upon themselves to take out Madelyn and the boys. My wolf was larger, having grown since the first time I shifted and rivaled even the highest ranking alpha's. So it was an uncommon look in the rogue's eyes as they registered what had just slammed into them. Snapping my jaws, I knew my hackles were raised.
"Get her out of here. I'll cover your retreat." My voice filled their heads, and they responded appropriately. Austin back in his human form, scooped her into his arms and Tyler ran ahead taking out the stragglers in their way. I refocused my gaze on the three in front of me, muscles tensing we snapped into motion. I meat a dirty blonde wolf mid air, our teeth snapping at each other while our paws fought for a grasp, the smaller two circles and began to nip at my hind legs. One drew blood and earned a swift kick to the snout, it's pathetic whimpers music to my ears. Continuing to grapple with the blonde wolf, my claws found their target, shredding into its belly while simultaneously locking my jaw down into its shoulder. It's howl drew the two others to attention and both responded by locking their own jaws to my legs.
I knew I was in for a painful recovery but I had no doubt of my survival. Growling in anger my claws dig deeper until finally it's underbelly was spilling more blood than it's body could replace. It's movements growing lethargic as I bit down harder shaking viscously until the snap of its neck and the slack of its muscles have way to its death. This then had me snap to the sides, drawing blood on a rust colored wolf, the other a gray. Both smaller than the one I'd taken down, and I took care of the easily. Dropping the neck of the last rogue I spun around to see the last few were taken out. Shaking out my fur, I felt the claw marks on my body seep blood into my coat of thick fur, I knew they wouldn't heal as my healing energy was already focused on fighting the poison of the rogues saliva.

It was a burning sensation but nothing I couldn't handle, blocking the pain I jogged over time wear Alice sat, grooming her front left leg. I saw the last glimpse of raw skin and new she was healing. The scarlet wolf perked her ears up seeing my approach, eyes immediately going to examine my body as I done hers. Much to her dislike she saw the wounds still leaking blood, anger filled her gaze at the sight of her alpha injured.
"You were bit?" She asked, wanting to confirm her suspicions. I nodded my wolf head once, not letting her into the bond. She wanted to feel how bad, or rather how many, but I could handle it. Plus I wasn't worried about me.
"I'll be fine. Madelyn is the one we need to focus on." My words ring true as fear glazed over her eyes, I knew she had felt Madelyn's pain but couldn't afford to give into it completely in order to stay focused on the battle at hand.
"How bad?" Which essentially meant, how many times was she bitten. I huff, ears flicking back in annoyance as I picture my injured pack member.
"Looked to be about six different times. There were three wolves by the time I got there." I could feel her anxiousness to go to her pack member, I could feel it too, the need to help protect our family. Standing to my full height I bob my head down my subtle way of permitting her to go to Madelyn. "I'll be there as soon as I can."
Watching the red wolf disappear into the shadows, the wall of sirens only grew closer. I saw the healers of the pack come out, bringing clothes and supplies. A young male approached me and dropped a bundle of clothes at my feet before hurrying to another. I shifted, hissing out as the burn in my ankles intensified. Nostrils flaring I slide on the clothes and watched as the clean up crew pulled up in large vans, as they'd been waiting. Moving quickly they, with the help of men and women not too injured, gathered the bodies of wolves. Those who were human and not in their pack, they left to be found.
Busy watching them finally drive off as I stood in the shadows, the lights of the humans cane in as their vehicles screech to a halt from the bloody massacre before them. Within seconds the firemen are working to put out the flames while an officer calls in an ambulance in case they find a survivor, they won't, we made sure of that. Still, I waited just in case, but I was so focused on them I hadn't realized another presence behind me until he spoke.
"You're injured." It was clear by his gruff voice he was struggling to contain himself. The stench of my blood and rogue saliva must've been overwhelming. Looking over my shoulder I take in his form, not seeing any of his own injuries. He only wore a pair of shorts, I had large shirt to cover my naked body but my legs, and therefore my wounds, were clear to see. Keeping my voice a whisper, so to not draw attention from the humans, I reply.
"Only two bites. Nothing I can't handle." I had survived worse rogue bites, and therefore my body had already built up a semi tolerance. "I've had worse, the healing process is just extremely slow." He still looked uneasy, his eyes staring at me with a look a wolf reserved only for his mate. Unbeknownst to my brain, my mouth pops open and asks an incredibly stupid question. "In this fairytale you seem to believe in, are you the true mate or the soul mate?" His breath hitches, the question heavy with tension, as he stared me down. Taking a step closer I stiffen, his hand lifting up to grasp a strand of my bloody silver hair. Tugging on it lightly, he looked away from my hair and back into my eyes.
"Doesn't matter. It only matters that you are meant to be with me. Whether from a past life, or from the moon's guidance. My wolf knows yours, and I know that I can't imagine being without you now that I know you." His words haunted me, as they were raw and true, but I couldn't help the fear the crept in.
"And what if you were to find your mate for this life?" I dared, defiantly sticking my chin up refusing to give in so easily.
"I have. I rejected her." My eyes shot wide open remembering my own pain, I stepped away horrified but not before he grasped my arm. Immediately got familiar sparks shot through my body. A shiver rolled through my spine, even as I looked up at the man who so brazenly admits to rejecting his true mate even as I myself had been rejected and know that pain. "Not for the reasons your tricky little mind is coming up with," He lifts his other hand to cup my cheek and my traitorous body leans into him. I felt his smirk, flustered I refused to look at him even as he started to speak once more. "Initially I loved her, dotted on her, but I will never forget the night she laid with another man." Pain tore through him, pain I recognized myself.
"That's why you left to come here and help. Distance helps." He nodded once to my words, a self loathing smile gracing his face. "Although I don't understand how stupid she could have been, she should've known you'd feel it." A grimace filled his face from my words.
"The man had promised her if she'd take a few herbs and close the link that I couldn't feel it." He explained, hinting at the simple fact that the male she'd cheated on him with was a Sorcerer of some kind a rarity as many humans had lost their touch with the energy lines of earth, but those who hadn't are very involved in the underground world of us unnatural species. "Imagine her surprise when she came home to find my bags packed." Although he said it jokingly I knew it wasn't easy, I still thought but to the rejection and felt a full throb of pain.
"Did she accept the rejection?" I asked, briefly glancing over my shoulder as more officers arrived on scene as well as a few news vans already reporting the explosive gang violence. His words drew back to our little hideaway in the shadows of a neighboring alleyway.
"No. She swore she'd earn my love back." That sparked an anger inside me, one that caused a guttural growl to leave my throat making him return it with a wicked grin. Arms around my what's he pulled me closer, forcing me to tilt my head back to actually see him. "But I don't want her. Even now her wolf calls to me but my own can't seem to stop pinning for you." With each word he drew closer and closer until his breath caressed the soft skin of my lips, heart thundering I was quickly feeling panic rise to the forefront when I was saved by a scuffle of feet behind us. Snapping apart, me flushed and embarrassed, Zander annoyed and angered, we looked to the small male bowing his head.
"Forgive me Alphas, but we found something in the warehouse." Sharing a glance we put our discussion behind us before together the three of us move to the warehouse were the detectives had yet to turn their attention to. Which was done on purpose with the connection within the force investigating the current mess. Climbing over debris and working our way to the back wall with our wolf eyesight we see clearly the spray paint on the back wall.
"Luna Bellatores, mox ego cruce, velum, et tunc nemo potest, prohibere plaga qui locum convolaturi hoc mundo." I speak slowly, as I recognized the message written in the old dead language. "Latin." I whisper, running my hand over the still fresh paint as the black transferred onto my fingertips. "Alpha Re-" I see his glare so shifting my words I continue. "I mean Zander, have your men take a picture of this before covering it. I have a decent sense of what it's saying but I can't be one hundred percent yet."
"Hank, you heard her." The male from before snaps to attention and proceeds with doing as I asked with a few other pack members bringing forth buckets of paint that had been lying around. Satisfied that they'd do their job Zander and I make our way out the back entrance, leaving the city limits until finally the tree line. "You willing to talk about what we spoke of before?" He asked, gaze watching me carefully.
"I can't right now. I waisted enough time as is," the throbbing in my ankles a reminder of Madelyn. "Madelyn was injured, I need to go to her side." He stiffly nodded, taking the mild rejection well as simultaneously we strip and shift into our wolves. Grabbing the items of clothing we had used before into our mouths, we bound off into the woods making our way to the pack where one else but the cleanup crew had disappeared to.
