Chapter 3: Christmas [Wednesday x Male Reader]

Wednesday (One Shots and Imagines)Words: 12665

Wednesday hated Christmas with a burning passion. She hated the lights, the colours, the atmosphere. She hated the very people that even dared to associate themselves with the make-believe tales and stories. Worst of all, she hated the presents. Why should she buy someone a gift because a fat man in a red suit said so. Was her presence not gift enough?

Just thinking about Christmas made her blood boil- like a hive of fire ants had crawled through her pours and had begun to make their nests in her meat and bones.

But for one year (and one year only) she was going to 'celebrate' Christmas. Y/N made her promise that they would share presents and drink hot chocolates while sitting in front of an open fire, under a warm, thick blanket.

Wednesday hated to admit it... but she was a little excited. Not about Christmas, but spending more time with Y/N. Being around him felt like a million spindling spiders had begun crawling in her stomach. Like a thousand needles had been stuck into her heart. It felt like love.

She wasn't sure when or how she became so affectionate towards him, last she remembered - she hated couples who spent every second together. She hated couples full stop. But with Y/N, she couldn't get enough.

She stumbled upon a realisation a few weeks back;

Wednesday lay in Y/N's arms. "I love you, cara mia" she murmured as her eyes fluttered shut. And she was struck like a man on train tracks that something horrible had happened. She jolted up out of his embrace. "Oh god. I've become my father." She uttered.

This realisation took a while to become comfortable with. For so long, she had been so confident in herself and her emotions and Y/N came along and screwed it all up. Yet she was more the happier for it. She would do anything for him. And that's why she was celebrating Christmas. For him. That's why when he told her he would be staying at Nevermore over the holidays, she told him that she would stay with him. It was also the reason that when he showed up outside her room in the early hours of the morning, dressed in quite possibly the ugliest sweater she had ever seen- she let

Y/N in.

"Did you have to wear such a bight coloured sweater?" She asked, complaining as she closed the door behind him. "And you could have given me some time to dress after I woke up." She further complained. She was still very much in her pyjamas.

"Merry Christmas to you too." Y/N dumped the tower of presents he had brought with him on her desk. "And yep, I did." He answered with a bright smile. "Look at what else it does!" He reached into the lining of the jumper. A few lights in the jumper came to light. Wednesday counted four colours (red, green, blue and orange) which was enough to make her wince, just looking at the putrid lights.

"Please turn it off." She insisted, turning her head away with a small sigh. "How do we do this then?" She asked. She wanted to get the bulk of the morning out of the way, as soon as she possibly could.

"Well, first of all..." He trailed off as he walked over to the Christmas tree Enid had put up on her side of the room. He leant down and flipped the switch, turning on the lights. He was sure he heard Wednesday hiss at the sight. "Did you bring that heater?" He asked.

Wednesday nodded and rolled the electric heater to him. He grabbed the plug and set it up. Sure enough, it turned on. It was certainly no fireplace, but it would do the same job.

Y/N shifted his backpack off his shoulder and shuffled through it. He pulled out a thick, fluffy blanket which he lay on the floor, just in front of the heater. He grabbed the tower of presents he had just put down and moved them next to the blanket. He sat down and crossed his legs, patting the space opposite him.

Wednesday raised a brow and hesitated. She wasn't keen but she sat anyway. The blanket felt nice beneath her bare feet, soft and warm. "What now?" She questioned, also crossing her legs.

He didn't answer, he just grabbed a present from the top of the pile and placed it in her lap. "That one is from Xavier." He told her.

She froze up. "These aren't all from you?" Wednesday interrogated. This wasn't what she had signed up for, she was certain that it would just be their own gifts that they would exchange.

"Maybe." He quickly answered. "Everyone knew you wouldn't accept their gifts if they gave them to you in person... But if I'm the one giving them to you..." He trailed off.

"Fine." She bluntly replied. She picked up the neatly wrapped gift and examined it. She paused. "How... do I open it?"

Y/N pursed his lips tight together, tighter than the weave of his Christmas jumper to prevent himself from laughing. She didn't know how to open up the wrapping, it was something so trivial and yet he found it so amusing. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to keep his happy sounds in. It only started with a small snicker, then evolved to a wheezed scoff, then into a full blown fit of laughter. He fell back and held his stomach with one hand and his mouth with the other as he made an attempt to quieten his laughs of amusement.

Wednesday on the other hand was infuriated. Her jaw was clenched as was her grip on the gift in her hand. "Brilliant. I am dating someone with the mental physique of a dead toddler." She muttered, clearly annoyed. She gave up on waiting for him to tell her how to open the stupid wrapping paper so simply opted to open it by the seams. While he was in his fit of laughter, she opened Xavier's gift, finding a black beanie. A small smile came to her lips but by the time Y/N had calmed down, she had set the hat aside and her smile had already dissipated.

Y/N took a number of deep breaths as he wiped away the tears that had escaped. "I'm sorry..." He breathed as he smiled. "Are you ready for the next one?" He asked.

She didn't answer and merely glared at him.

"Right..." He muttered, straightening out his smile. He grabbed the next gift, a slightly bigger one this time, and handed it over. "From Enid." He informed her.

Wednesday seemed to sigh before once again, peeling at the seams of the wrapping paper. Once an opening was made, she pulled out the gift. She found she had been gifted a new hoodie. It was black which was a positive. She unfolded it and was blinded by flashy, brightly coloured embroidery of a raindeer with a red nose. "Ugh... Ew..." She muttered before folding it up and setting it aside.

"You mean you're not even going to wear it?" Y/N asked.

"No." She told him bluntly.

He proceeded to pout like a whiny child. She couldn't resist him when he pouted. "Fine." She spat coldly. "Just- just look away." She demanded. He did as she asked. "You can look now."

He turned his head and grinned at the sight, her button up silk pyjama top had been replaced by Enid's embroidered sweater. "It suits you, the colour really brings out your eyes." He teased with a grin. She wasn't at all amused, looking at him with a stony expression. He grinned and leant over, pecking her cheek. "Maybe now you can steel less of mine... I have run out of black sweaters."

She felt her cheeks burn up a small bit and a little grin grew on her plump lips. "We'll see."

Y/N handed her the last two gifts. "These two are from me." He told her.

She wasn't sure what it was. Something about him going out of his way to buy her some stupid gifts made her chest pang in pain. She bit her lip as she opened one of the gifts, tenderly peeling the paper away. She found a box with heavy amounts of printing on it. The more she pulled out the box, the more writing she could see. "Headphones?" She spoke, her smile growing wide.

"Noise cancelling too, you won't have to listen to me whine down you ear anymore." Y/N told her, smiling just as wide as she was. Seeing her smile was more rare than picking a four leafed clover in a cornfield and he felt so lucky to see it.

"How expensive were they?" Wednesday asked, her face soon becoming serious.

"Only a little."

"I'll pay you back-"

"Don't be ridiculous, Wednesday. That defeats the purpose of a gift." He told her with a scoff. "Actually, you can pay me back in cuddles this evening."

She raised a brow and nodded. "Alright." She replied simply before unwrapping her final gift. Whatever it, it was in a blank black box. Curiously, she raised a darkened brow, inspecting the box closely. "What is it?"

"Open it and find out." He encouraged, his smile still wide in excitement.

Watching his handsome features filled with so much excitement, made her heart beat just a little faster. She opened up the box and her eyes went wide. Her lips parted and a stray tear slowly traipsing down her pale cheek. "Y/N..." She delicately picks out an elegant necklace. With a spider silk-like chain, thinner than even the most splintered of nails. At the end of the chain was a dark, black rose. If Wednesday had to guess, she would say it was ancient- but that just made it all the more beautiful.

"It's an old family heirloom." He explained. He shifted a little closer to her. "Here, let me help you put it on." He told her, gently taking it from her fingers. She turned her back to him while he unhooked the clip of the necklace, bringing it around her thin neck before hooking it once more. "There." He spoke softly.

Wednesday turned to him once more, holding the black rose pendant between her forefinger and thumb, admiring it. "It's... It's beautiful, mi amor." She breathed, her smile bright despite her blankened lips.

Y/N grinned and pressed his lips to her downturned forehead. "I am happy you like it, Wednesday." He murmured softly.

Wednesday leant into him as she grabbed a folded up piece of paper and a deep, dense wooden box. "I was really unsure about what to get you, mi príncipe." She reluctantly handed over the box and paper. "Open the box first." She told him.

He briefly nodded and did as he was told, lifting up the lid of the box. He furrowed his brows as all that was inside was a small stone, perhaps even a pebble. He picked it up and found some deep inscriptions on it. "What is it?" He asked. Knowing Wednesday, it was a chunk of skull from a dead celebrity he had told her he liked.

Wednesday rested her head on his shoulder. "It is an enchanted charm." She confirmed with a small sigh.

"Interesting." Y/N murmured softly, bringing it closer to his face to inspect it. "What is so magical about it?"

"It brings luck." She informed him, her cheek pressed up against his shoulder. "Read the letter, cariño." She spoke softly.

He placed the stone back into the wooden box before unfolding the parchment. The letter was hand written, neat and clear but also fine and small, all obvious signs of Wednesday's writing.

He sucked in a deep breath before he began reading.

Dearest Y/N,

I gift you this rock that has brought me so much luck in my past. Before you, I was very much a detached head missing it's body- or rather I was missing something. I will admit I was lost.

I always told myself that the hollow cavity in my chest and heart was natural. I surrounded myself with all things unateral and dead, just so I could feel alive and normal. Everything changed when you came.

I never believed in superstition and karma as I always believed in my own abilities. But when I bought this rock (for some personal studies), things began to change. I didn't notice it at first, perhaps because I was looking for luck to take place in a more obvious form like Enid taking down all of her horrendous decorations or maybe my brother finally standing up for himself. However I have a hunch that luck was being subtle and was on my side the day I met you. At first you were mysterious, then you were annoying. But luckily, you stuck around, no matter how many dead, cold-shoulders I threw your way.

In recent days, I have come across quite the realisation. You replaced the rotting corpses and spider's nests in that cavity in my chest with your love and encouragement and I can't help but angrily enjoy it. You have changed me. Completed me. I hope that perhaps this enchanted rock may bring you the luck it brought me. I love you, mi vida. You are my soul. I would kill and be killed for you,

Yours faithfully, Wednesday

Y/N couldn't break the smile on his lips having read her letter. He knew what he wanted luck to bring him, if the rock truly worked. "Maybe if I'm lucky, I'll take your hand in marriage some day." He told her cooly, taking the rock back out of the box and slipping it into his pants pocket.

"You'll be lucky if I don't taxidermy you in your sleep. You would make quite the handsome corner piece, don't you think, mi amor." She teased.
