Chapter 17 Abortion The crowd fell silent as realization hit. No one dared challenge the person who had just secured the prestigious spot. They also kept their eyes off the event organizer, but more importantly, they avoided crossing paths with Melanie, who had just secured a significant victory. Instead, they turned their disdainful gazes toward Lena and vent their frustration through sarcastic remarks.
However, some quickâthinking, opportunistic folks swiftly changed their allegiance to Melanie. They rushed over to flatter her with congratulatory words, but Melanie had no interest in these fickle admirers. She simply walked away with her cane in hand to the elevator.
As she reached the end of the corridor, someone caught up with her from behind and said, âMiss Melanie, we will send you the invitation to the International Socialites Gala as soon as possible. In addition, we will need you to provide a medical report.â
The employee from Morgan Group continued, emphasizing further, âYou understand, we want to ensure that you are in good health. Please follow the specified health check requirements.â
Melanie accepted the medical forms from the employee and nodded. âAlright.â
Morgan Groupâs concerns extended beyond Melanieâs physical wellâbeing. They also wanted to ensure she did not have any detrimental habits. After all, she would be representing Harbor City at an event of important significance, and Melanie understood that.
Leaving Harbor Mall, Melanie hailed a cab and retrieved the business card given to her by Jeffrey Morgan from her bag. The card lacked the doctorâs name but displayed an address for a traditional Chinese medicine clinic. Melanie contemplated for a moment before instructing the driver to take her there.
The clinic was situated within a highâend private hospital, accessible by walking through the hospitalâs outpatient building.
Melanie introduced herself and waited for a while inside. Soon, an elderly doctor arrived to examine her injury and perform the acupuncture.
Half an hour later, Melanie stood up. She was amazed to find that her left foot, which she had not dared to exert for the past two years, could now bear her weight.
âI assume youâve been taking care of your injured foot. Here are some herbal patches Iâve prepared for you. Apply them every night before bed. In less than three days, youâll regain full mobility,â the elderly doctor advised.
Melanieâs initial skepticism had melted away as she looked at him again, expressing her sincere gratitude.
âYouâre a respected guest recommended by Mr. Morgan. No need for thanks,â the elderly doctor replied.
With that, the doctor and his assistant, who carried a medicinal box, left. Melanie kept the patches and made her way out.
As she exited the clinic, she realized it was conveniently close to the outpatient building. Since she had to undergo a medical examination as per Morgan Groupâs request, she decided to get it over with and underwent various tests.
As she completed her medical examination, Melanie caught a glimpse of a tall woman in sunglasses and a hat, hurriedly entering an adjacent room designated for surgical appointments.
Melanieâs eyebrow arched ever so slightly. This figure seemed strangely familiar.
If she made her guess based on the disguised silhouette, she might not be entirely sure. However, the woman held a limitedâ
edition handbagâthe only one in all of Harbor City- which allowed Melanie to swiftly identify her.
Lena Jones.
Lena had put in more effort to acquire that limitedâedition bag than practicing her scripts. Melanie assumed that it was Bryan West who had footed the bill.
Melanie blinked, observing the sign nearby that read âGynecologyâ.
She had not heard any recent news about Lenaâs health concerns. Lenaâs secretive appointment at the gynecology clinic, without an assistant and in such a discreet disguise, left Melanie wondering. Could it be...?
Melanie had been wondering how to make full use of West Corpâs celebration tomorrow to deal with Bryan and Lena.
Unexpectedly, Lena 1/2 +15 BONUS Melanie smirked. She retrieved her sunglasses from her bag and put them on. She then walked over to the counter and deliberately lowered her voice before speaking. âExcuse me, my friend had an appointment for a procedure, but I havenât settled the payment for her yet...â
The nurse scrutinized her from top to bottom and inquired. âYour friend is...?â
âLena Jones.â Melanie replied, further lowering her voice.
The onâduty nurse immediately grasped the situation. In this upscale private hospital, celebrity visits were a common occurrence, and the staff had grown accustomed to it. The nurse lowered her voice and replied, âWhile the procedure might be minor, itâs important to ensure the patientâs overall health. Weâre conducting a preliminary examination to assess her suitability for an abortion.â
âAlright, thank you,â Melanie responded.
A glint of sharpness appeared in Melanieâs eyes. She could not believe that Lena Jones was pregnant!
