Chapter 39
In seconds, Lucas wrapped his arms around me before setting me between him and Jason. As if they were supporting me without physically supporting me.
"Okay, tell us," Jason said slowly, and Anthony eyed the three of us with humor in his eyes.
"Why would I tell you the one thing that's keeping me alive?" He asked, quirking his eye brow.
"Tell me," I demanded, glaring at him so hard that I felt like it was only the two of us in the room.
Anthony scoffed, crossing his arms over his chest. This action expanded his chest underneath his white button up shirt, and for a second, I was worried how this would end.
I shoved my fear aside as I stood my place. "Emma. What would you have to benefit from knowing who killed your mother and sister?"
"For the purpose of knowing, Anthony. They're my family and they're gone because of this person," I snarled as tears threatened to leave my eyes.
Anthony noticed my armor shattering slightly, and a small smirk pulled up on the corner of his mouth. "It's better if you didn't know."
My jaw clenched before tapping into telekinesis, which I then threw Anthony to the other side of the room, breaking the desk he got that was identical to the one I had at home.
"Emma," Lucas hissed, holding onto my hand, and I let his warmth take over me.
That was the only control I gave to him before I moved my hand out of his hold.
Within seconds, I threw the clock by the nightstand onto Anthony's forehead, which caused him to fall back down on the broken wood he was now laying in.
"This is an unfair battle, Emma," he laughed roughly as he fought to stand on his own two feet.
"How?" I asked, raising my eyebrows before throwing the lamp towards him.
"Because you know I won't hurt you," he concluded, and I eyed him as he tried to stand up before standing next to Lucas.
"Who killed them?" I demanded, avoiding the ache in my chest at the thought of my fallen family members.
They're still in Vancouver. They have a good life. I remind myself.
It's better for me to deny than to be swallowed whole by the truth.
Once Anthony stood in front of me, my armor returned and a glare as strong as daggers replaced my fear.
"You want to know?" He asked with a clenched jaw. "Fine."
He stood silent for a moment before sighing. "It was Alexander Sullivan," he concluded, and my eyes widened in disbelief.
"Wow," I scoffed. "You can't get him out of my life so you want to make me go against him?"
Anthony's eyes widened, ready to speak up, but I stopped him. "Unbelievable. He did not kill my mom or my sister. What motive does he have? None!" I shouted, and Lucas drew his thumb in the palm of my hand before holding it tightly.
"That's something you have to ask him, Emma, " he said, and my jaw clenched almost painfully before using telekinesis again.
"You're a liar. You always have been," I said dryly before throwing him towards the door, which broke behind him before he landed face down.
My eyes widened for a millisecond as Jason and Lucas ran up to his unmoving body before Lucas bent down to feel his pulse.
"He's alive. But unconscious," he said, slowly standing up before turning to face me.
In seconds, Lucas stood next to me before tugging me down the end of the hall with Jason following behind me. "What are we doing?" I hissed, trying not to get anyone's attention on us.
"Getting out of here," Lucas stated coldly as he stopped at a corner.
"Why?" I demanded before ripping my hand out of his hold. "We have to kill him! If we don't he'll never stop harassing us!"
"No," Jason spoke up. "You're not killing him, Em. You've gone this long without killing anyone. We're not letting you ruin that now."
I sighed in understanding before looking around the house. "Why can't we transport out of the house?" I asked, and they both looked at me blankly.
"You think we haven't tried?" Lucas asked, and I rolled my eyes.
"The house is bound by a shield, clearly. Leaving this house, or even entering it using transportation is close to impossible," Jason expanded, and I nodded.
"Well, the front door is hidden in the wall," I said, and the both nodded in understanding.
Suddenly, the sound of footsteps running down the hall on the other end of the corner caught my attention, and I froze just as Lucas and Jason raised their hands in preparation.
However, when I saw who was on the other end, I sighed in relief and Lucas glared harder.
Already predicting what he was about to do, I shot my hand up just before he used telekinesis to blast him who knows where.
"Hey," I breathed out once I turned back to him and Adam smiled.
"Hi," he said, looking over our shoulder before looking back to me with panic laced in his gaze.
"Come on, I'll help you out," he whispered, looking at the cameras around him before throwing the broken wood behind us and aiming it at the cameras.
Without giving me time to understand what's going on, Adam grabbed my hand and tugged me to the hall he came from with Lucas and Jason running behind us.
"Thanks for doing this, Adam," I breathed out once we came to a stop by the next corner. He looked over his shoulder, glancing at me with a smile on his lips before his gaze shifted lower to our entwined hands.
His hold on my hand tightened and I sensed Lucas' jaw grinding his teeth together before looking over Adam's shoulder.
My eyes widened when two female hunters came running to us, and Adam noticed my expression before looking in front of him.
In seconds, he stood straighter, making sure I was out of their view. "Lockheart," one of the woman said dryly, and in the background, I heard them turn off the safety from their guns.
"Give us the hostages, and the boss can deal with you himself later," the other demanded, and if possible, Adam's back straightened further.
"No," he said blankly. "Now, you move out of my way now or I will kill you later," he clenched out, and both women in front of us laughed before tilting their head to the side.
In a matter of seconds, four gun shots rang out, echoing through the house before landing on their target.
My eyes widened before standing next to Adam, seeing both women with one bullet in their heart before they dropped to the ground.
I sighed in relief, turning back to Adam with a smile, but my heart dropped when I saw two bullet holes in Adam's chest.
"Oh my God," I gasped out as I covered my mouth in shock.
"I'm sorry about Adam, Hope," Lucas said behind me, and for a brief moment, he actually sounded apologetic about something happening to Adam.
Carefully I placed Adam's head to the ground. "Why are you sorry?" I asked once I looked over my shoulder before looking back to his hand.
"You mirrored the bullets so they would land on their chest," I breathed out and his head hung low in shame as I turned back to Adam.
"I'm sorry," Adam gasped out, but it was as though he was forcing the words to leave him.
I shook my head. "You don't have to be sorry."
"I do," he confessed roughly. "Because I... I went to your school for one purpose, and," he coughed, blood coming out as he did so. "I left with another."
My hand wrapped around his curls before closing my eyes tightly. "Please forgive me."
I nodded my head fearlessly. "I forgive you, Adam."
His lips raised slightly as his eyes began to flutter shut. "I guess I loved you until death," he quietly laughed before his expression shifted to emptiness.
A tear fell out of my eye, and I swiped it away quickly.
"Goodbye, Adam."

After my final farewell, Lucas lifted me up to my feet and ran down another hall before closing the door shut behind us.
For over an hour, we had locked ourselves in the empty room with Jason, and while we sat next to each other on the floor, we heard shouting on the other side of the door.
"Find them!" Anthony shouted in demand, and a shot rang through the house, causing me to jump in fear.
Lucas wrapped his arm around me in comfort, and I glanced at Jason. "You ready?" I whispered, indicating to the plan we have been speaking about within the hour.
Jason smiled softly as he nodded. "Don't worry about me."
When we couldn't hear anymore footsteps on the other side of the door, we all got up to our feet slowly, and Lucas cracked the door open before looking left and then right.
When the coast was all clear, he held my hand before guiding the three of us to the end of the hall.
When the grand staircase came into view, I chest expanded at the feeling of being so close to the exit.
"Stop," someone shouted behind us, and we all turned around to see a man with a shaky grip on his gun while pointed at me.
In seconds, his body was thrown down the hall and I looked between Jason and Lucas to see who did it.
When I noticed a smug smirk on Lucas' lips, I knew he did so.
I sighed but when I caught sight at a petite woman with golden skin, dark brown hair with bangs and green eyes, my eyes widened.
"Fay? What are you doing here?" I asked with fear laced in my tone as she slowed her steps towards me.
She warily glanced at both men on my sides before looking back to me. "What the hell is going on? Boss is going ballistic," she hissed, making sure no one could hear her.
"He knows he can't control us, and he's not happy about that," Jason laughed dryly.
Fay glanced at him before smiling softly to me. "Come on. I'll help you out."
"No," I said just as the boys began to follow her lead on the opposite side of the house.
She looked over her shoulder with her brows furrowed. "Why?"
"Because you're going to get killed for helping, Fay!" I whispered harshly. The memory of Adam's deceased body was still fresh in my memory.
But she shook her head, determined as ever. "I'm helping you. End of discussion."
Fay doesn't wait for me to retort as she turns to the end of the hall, leading us away from the stairs.
I stay rooted to my spot, but Lucas rolled his eyes before grabbing my hand and tugging me so I was walking fast next to him.
For five minutes, we walked down the guest wing in silence. That was until Fay opened her mouth. "What are you guys going to do when you get out?" She asked, and I forgot that she was oblivious to our plan.
"Hopefully never see Anthony again," I grumbled, casting a look to Jason before looking over Fay's shoulder.
Suddenly, a tall man turns the corner ahead of us, and Fay pauses her steps with us following in seconds.
"Finn," she breathed out as she watched him pull out his gun and directed it to us.
Slowly, she took steps closer to Finn so he could see her clearly.
I knew she got through to him when he looked away from us, locking his gaze with her green eyes.
"Please, don't," she whispered, and he glanced at us before looking back down.
"Come on Fay, don't make me go against bosses orders," he whispers, and she sighs before cupping the hand that was risen in air, tightly holding the gun.
Finn looked deep into her eyes before closing his eyes tightly just as he dropped his arm.
"Fine," he whispered, and even though her back was to me, it didn't take a genius to know that she was smiling with all her might.
Finn looked at the three of us over her shoulder before looking back to Fay. "You taking them to the back?" She nodded. "We should take them underground. It'll be safer."
Fay nodded in agreement, before turning back to us. "We're gonna need to run. Fast."
In a matter of seconds, we all began to sprint with Finn leading in front of all of us.
Once we reached one of the last rooms down the hall, we were about to enter. That was until two hunters came out of the room, looking at Finn before looking over his shoulder, meeting all of our gazes.
Suddenly, Jasmine came out of the room, looking at all of us mischievously before eyeing Finn. "He betrayed us. Kill him," she demanded, and in seconds, both hunters cocked their guns.
Fay's back tensed, and before either of us could stop her from her movement, she jumped in front of Finn just as two shots rang through the quiet hallway.
Fay dropped to the floor while Jason and Lucas threw the two hunters against the wall.
Finn caught Fay before she could fall to the ground, and I ran towards her.
"No! Wait, I-I can save her," I mumbled. "I can save her. I can."
Thoughts of how I saved Lucas rushed in my mind, but I came out with nothing.
"Fay," I whispered, pressing my hands to her chest, hoping to feel the same breeze of energy I felt with Lucas.
But I felt nothing.
I covered my mouth as a sob left me. Finn's jaw clenched at my disability to help him before standing up straighter while holding Fay bridle style.
Turning around, my eyes turn to glare at Jasmine, who was leaning against the door frame with a smirk.
Anger bubbled up inside of me, and I didn't waste a second breath before using telekinesis to throw Jasmine against the wall.
Clearly taken back, Jasmine's eyes widened before I slammed her against the wall violently.
Before she could think twice, my hand wrapped around her neck before tightening my hold, causing her to gasp for air.
Suddenly, on both of my sides, Jason and Lucas stood next to me, but not touching me.
However, when they noticed I wasn't loosening my hold, Lucas slowly laced his fingers with my free hand.
"Hope," he breathed out. "Don't do this. Don't kill her."
"Why? She deserves it," I hissed, but he shook her head.
"Not you," he whispered, and my eyes shifted to his, and his icy blue eyes began to melt when our eyes met.
My hand slowly began to lose its grip on her neck before I let go fully, causing her to fall onto her knees before gasping for air.
I slowly took steps back as I watched Lucas slowly kneel down so he was in front of Jasmine's stone cold face.
However, this time, you could see her cracking with fear.
"If I see you one more time, I fucking swear to you that I will kill you painfully slow," Lucas drawled out, meaning every word. Jasmine got that by how her eyes flashed.
Quickly, she got up on her feet before before running down the hall.
Once she was out of sight, I turned back to where Fay once was, but instead, she was in Finn's hold.
"First Adam. Now Fay," I whispered to myself, and Finn tightened his hold on her before turning the other direction.
"Yo, where should we go?" Jason asked Finn, who only looked over his shoulder briefly before looking ahead of him.
"Downstairs. Last door on the right side of the staircase. There's a wall with one brick sticking out. Push it, and you'll be led to a long hallway. Follow it, and you're home free," he said, and I thanked him before eyeing Fay's limp body.
My heart ached at the sight before slowly turning back to Lucas and Jason. "Let's go before we get caught," I said and they both nodded before heading down the back staircase.
For over five minutes, we were carefully walking around the first floor, making sure that we wouldn't bump into any hunters. But when we did, Lucas or Jason shot them to the other side of the hall.
When I began to see a wall with a brick sticking out of it slightly, I started to run faster, but before I could reach it close enough to press it, a tall figure stood in front of me, causing me to hit their chest before falling back.
Lucas quickly stood next to me, followed by Jason, who stood on my opposite side.
"Well, look who've we found," Anthony smirked, but his eyes held such anger as he eyed the three of us.
When his eyes met mine, his smirk turned into a snarl before he grabbed both of my upper arms, tossing me roughly to the wall behind him.
My fist clenched, ready to fight back, but stopped when I spotted hunters running towards us.
When I looked back to Lucas and Jason, I saw them being held back by the dozens of hunters who are either holding them, or standing around them.
We're cornered.
Literally.
"You know, I was willing to let one of you live, but since neither of you are going to complete the ritual, I'll kill you all," Anthony said, glaring at the both of them before turning to me.
"Starting with my own flesh and blood," he clenched out, as if he was ashamed to be part of my birth.
He eyed the men behind me. "Take her to the black room," he demanded coldly, and as he was doing so, Lucas and Jason tried to shrug off the men holding them.
However, when Jason's eyes met mine, he looked at the people walking towards me just before his eyes squinted.
Suddenly, all seven of them were flying to the opposite side of the hall, and my heart started to escalate as he kicked the man behind him in the knee, most likely breaking it.
The man let out a cry, dropping to the floor. This gave Jason just about enough time to make everyone behind him be thrown against the hard brick wall, either earning some grunts, or just utter silence.
When Jason looked back to Lucas and the man who was holding his hands together, he moved so he was choking Lucas instead, and Luca quickly pressed his chin down before stepping to the side.
In seconds, Lucas punched him in the groin before elbowing him in the face once he bent down.
Once he let go, Lucas smirked at his lying body before jogging to stand next to me.
Jason was only a few steps behind Anthony.
Anthony eyed both of us warily before turning around to face Jason, who was wearing an evil smirk.
Jason pressed Anthony to the wall, but not physically.
Anthony's feet barely touched the floor as Jason pressed his hand right against Anthony's heart, and he sucked in a large intake of breath.
As if he knew what Jason was about to do.
"You're done, Anthony," Jason clenched out, and a evil laugh left Anthony.
"Done? This will never be done, Jason," he said in a matter of fact tone before eyeing me. "There will always be more after me. But one day, they will succeed, and we'll have the ability for immortality."
My jaw clenched, but before I could comment, Jason pressed his hand further to his chest, causing Anthony to gasp.
"But like us, hybrids will never betray their equal," he turned back to me. "Their friend."
When he looked back to Anthony, I noticed that he had gotten pale.
The blood isn't flowing as fast as it should be.
My eyes widened when I connected the dots to what he was doing.
He's stopping his heart.
Slowly, Anthony's eyes began to flutter closed, and I couldn't help but release what felt a breath of fresh air.
When he began to drop to his knees, I tried to see if I could hear anything coming from him, but found that he had no heartbeat.
"If he's dead, could you heal him?" Jason asked unexpectedly, but I shrugged.
"Lucas was on the brink of death. But I don't think I could save anyone if they were fully dead," I admitted, and he nodded before eyeing the one brick sticking out.
"Let's go home," he whispered.
I sighed, moving in front of it with Lucas.
I looked to both of my sides, smiling at them before eyeing the wall in front of us.
"Lets."
