Chapter 28
Of course, that was the only amount of control Lucas Scott planned to give me.
Not bothering to think twice, he rolled us so he was on top of me, using his elbow to support himself up so he doesn't crush me.
Using the other hand, he rested it on the side of my cheek, gently holding it as he brought his lips down again to meet mine.
My heart thumped loudly as I cupped his cheek with one hand while resting the other on his waist.
He moved his lips slowly, and I followed, completely entrapped by his movements.
I pressed my lips harder against his, wanting more, but Lucas growled instead.
"Easy princess," he whispered roughly against my lips.
My eyes opened, and I glared at him.
Without a second thought, I moved my body up, knocking him down so he's resting on his back. Before he has a second to understand what happened, I threw my leg over him and straddled his waist.
"Not a princess, Scott," I whispered next to his ear.
Lucas laughed deeply, and the sound hit me right to my core.
This is happening too fast.
I quickly got off of him and sat down next to him as I leaned against the headboard.
"What's wrong?" Lucas asked, sitting up as well.
"Uh, I think we should just go to sleep," I mumbled quietly, not bothering to look at him.
Lucas stays silent for a few moments before he responded. "Yeah. Okay."
Without saying another word, I moved to the very edge of my side of the bed to lie down. After I've faced the other direction, I heard Lucas doing the same thing behind me.
"Goodnight," Lucas spoke into the night.
Goodnight Lucas.
â¡
The first thing I paid attention to when I woke up was the heavy weight of an arm around my waist.
Groaning quietly, I slowly moved around so I faced the other way, only to become face to face with Lucas.
So much for space.
After turning back to my previous state, I gently removed Lucas's arm off of my waist, and threw my legs over the ledge of the bed.
Once I've checked that Lucas was still sleeping, I headed to the corner of the room, where a pile of clothes I brought from home sat.
Grabbing a light blue t-shirt and black leggings, I quietly headed to the bathroom.
After I've brushed my teeth, and my hair, followed by changing my clothes, I headed back outside the room, only to see Lucas already dressed.
"I'll meet you downstairs," I whispered to Lucas as he moved around me to go to the bathroom.
"Okay," was the final thing I heard from him before he shut the bathroom door.
I headed downstairs, and caught the scent of apples.
"Hi Sadie," I greeted once I saw her standing in the kitchen.
After she placed the square baking pan on top of the stove, she turned around and sent me a gentle smile. "Hi sweetie. Lucas coming?"
I nodded just as Lucas began stomping downstairs.
"Hey," Lucas acknowledged the both of us as he took a seat by the front of the table.
Sadie rolled her eyes playfully. "Hi hon."
I took the seat next to Lucas and he sent me a smirk before paying attention to Sadie. "What are you making?" He asked.
She clapped her hands together in excitement. "Apple pie. Not for right now, of course. But for later."
A smile took place on my lips, excited to eat it later throughout the day. "Well I'm excited to have it."
Sadie nodded her head in accomplishment before turning around to grab two plates. "Here's breakfast," she said as she placed a plate in front of us, containing a fluffy waffle.
After Lucas and I thanked Sadie, we dug in.
Once we finished, Lucas and I headed out and went inside his car, ready to begin driving to school.
Right as we sat down, my phone vibrated.
Jason: Are we meeting at school?
Emma: Yup. Are you there yet?
Jason responded in seconds.
Jason: Yeah. Hurry your ass up, I'm bored and lonely.
Emma: You have tons of friends, go talk to them.
Jason: Yeah but I don't want to socialize.
I couldn't help but roll my eyes at his comment.
Emma: I'll be there soon.
"Who are you texting?" Lucas asked next to me.
Looking away from my now locked phone, I glanced up to him. "Jason. He's asking when I'll be at school."
Lucas nodded slowly as he turned a right. "We'll be there in ten minutes or so. Depends on traffic."
"Okay," I said simply, looking off to the distance outside.
Already hating the awkward silence between us, I increased the volume to the radio, which was playing Shout Out To My Ex by Little Mix.
And of course, I began thinking of my ex.
â¡
Just like Lucas said, we got to school in ten minutes.
"Do you see Jason anywhere?" I asked him as we began walking inside the school.
Right as Lucas began to reply, I spotted Jason on the far corner of the hall, talking to one of his friends.
When he caught my eye, he smiled. However, when he looked next to me and spotted Lucas, he began smirking.
Once he has said goodbye to the friend he was speaking to, he headed our way.
"You guys came it at the same time?" Jason asked as he neared us.
I cleared my throat. "Yeah, just before we got inside."
Jason nodded slowly, clearly not believing anything I'm saying. Thankfully, the girls came in.
"Hey," Anna shouted as she bumped her hips with mine.
"Hi," Lauren yawned, lying her head on Dylan's shoulder.
"So Lauren and I were talking, and we were wondering, what's the plan for Thursday?" Anna asked, leaning against the wall.
I followed her lead as I shrugged. "No idea."
"Honestly, the guys can just pick us up separately," Lauren said, yawning again.
All three of the boys nodded. "Yeah, not a problem. Are you guys gonna get ready together?" Dylan asked as he began to wrap his arm around Lauren's shoulder.
I looked at both of the girls before nodding. "I guess so."
Our conversation is finished the second the warning bell rang, and the students around us slowly began walking to their homeroom classes.
"Come on, I'll walk with you," Lucas whispered to me as he pulled out his hand for me to hold.
I briefly glanced at Jason, and saw his attention on Anna, so I quickly took his hand.
Once Lucas pulled me off of the wall, we began walking to my classroom. "Are we gonna talk about what happened last night?" Lucas whispered next to me after a long pause of silence.
Thankfully, I spotted my homeroom nearby. "Nope," I chirped before jogging to the door.
â¡
Shockingly, my first two periods finished fast before lunch came around.
Once Anna met with Lauren and I outside the cafeteria, we all headed inside to buy ourselves lunches.
Just as put in my order to the lunch lady, I felt a presence behind me.
"Hi," Lucas whispered in my ear as he began tickling my sides.
"No," I laughed hard, trying to resist his touch, however, Lucas wasn't letting me escape.
Thankfully, Anna grabbed my food for me so the lady wouldn't glare at me any harder for holding up the line.
Right when Lucas took a break from tickling me, I shoved him away. "Not cool," I said, but wasn't able to hide my smile.
Lucas shrugged, not caring. "Here," he said as he handed a ten dollar bill to the woman in front of the cashier.
I glared at him and slapped his hand away, but it was too late. She already took the money.
"At first I didn't really care when you paid, but now you gotta stop," I grumbled as I followed the girls to our table.
Once I've taken a seat, Lucas took the seat next to me, and soon after Jason joined with Dylan.
Halfway through my conversation with Lauren, a warm, large hand landed on my thigh, causing me to look up to Lucas.
Right when my eyes met his, he stared at me lustfully, and I couldn't help but feel at loss for breath.
"Em, you listening?" Lauren said suddenly, and I quickly looked at her before nodding.
"Yeah, yeah," I nodded, ignoring the feeling Lucas's touch gave me.
Throughout the time Lauren was talking, Lucas left his hand on my thigh as we both ate.
â¡
The rest of the week passed smoothly. Several grades in our school were buzzing about this Thursday's semi, and I shockingly agreed with their excitement.
I woke up Thursday morning by my seven o'clock alarm, however, by the sound of groaning behind me, I assumed Lucas didn't agree.
"No school," Lucas groaned into his pillow as he shuffled around to find another comftorable spot.
"Get up," I yawned as I tossed the pillow to Lucas.
"Why can't we stay in? Barely anyone is going today anyways," Lucas tried to persuade while I sat down, leaning against the headboard.
"I don't know Lucas..."
"Come on, do I have to beg or some shit?" Lucas groaned as he stretched out his arms.
I couldn't help but smirk. "It wouldn't hurt to try."
Lucas sighed dramatically as he got off of the bed, only to stand on his knees. "Emma Sullivan, can we stay in today?"
My laugh escaped me harshly. "Yes, oh God I can't believe you actually swallowed your pride to do that."
Lucas grumbled a string of curse words as he moved to sit on the bed next to me.
"Well now I'm fully up," Lucas mumbled as he lied down.
I made sure he was looking at me as I wiggled my eyebrows. "We can watch conspiracy videos," I suggested, and Lucas smirked.
"Let's do it."
â¡
After watching a dozen or so conspiracy videos, Lucas and I paused the latest one and stretched.
"That was eventful," I smiled.
Lucas smiled, ready to say something when suddenly, a voice filled the empty house on the other side of the door.
"Luke, you home?" Jason shouted, and Lucas and I both looked at each other in fear.
Without another word passing between us, I ran to the closet, scared being caught by Jason.
Right when I closed the door shut behind me, Jason walked into Lucas's room. "Hey man... what the hell are you doing?"
Lucas yawned exaggeratedly. "Texting some chick on my phone, why are you even here?"
Jason didn't answer, so I took that time to peak through the small crack of the door, seeing Jason take a seat on his bed. "I was bored," he shrugged.
"Oh," Lucas said blankly, sitting up as well.
Jason sighed, and turned to his side to face Lucas. "Okay I'm lying. I wanted to talk to you about Emma," he said shockingly, and my eyes widened.
When Jason looked away, Lucas's eyes widened slightly before returning to its natural state. "Emma? Why would we talk about her?"
"I'm not stupid," Jason laughed. "I know you guys have gotten closer. My question is how."
Lucas furrowed his eyebrows. "How?"
Jason rolled his eyes at how clueless Lucas was being. "I've spent years trying to get you both friends again, and after a few months since Emma's gotten back, you guys are acting like best friends."
Lucas shrugged. "I don't know what to tell you man. We just got over our petty behavior."
Jason stared at him with a look of question before he decided to talk again. "Do you like her?" He asked suddenly, catching Lucas and also me by surprise.
"What? I barely tolerate her half the time," Lucas responded fast, and Jason's eyebrow shot up.
"Really?"
"Yeah."
Jason narrowed his eyes on him. "Okay."
Clearly feeling uncomfortable, Lucas changed the topic about something going on with one of their friends, taking the tension off of the topic from me and him.
After ten minutes, their conversation finished by the sound of Jason's phone ringing.
According to Jason, his mom was demanding reasons to why he wasn't at school, and how he managed to sneak out of the house.
Right when he left, Lucas slowly opened the closet door.
When he saw me sitting down on the floor, he offered me his hand, helping me up to my feet.
Without speaking, Lucas guided us both to his bed, and we both take a seat on the ledge.
"You know I was lying right?" Lucas asked after some time has passed.
I nodded immediately. "Yeah I know."
Lucas looked my way, and I couldn't help but feel at loss of breath from the look he gave me.
Slowly, he began leaning closer, letting our noses brush. However, something in the back of my head caused me to move away.
"We can't do this. We can't do this to Jason," I said as I began shaking my head.
"What do you mean?" Lucas asked dumbfounded.
I sighed, turning my body so I'm facing him. "Lucas, why didn't you tell him you liked me? Why did I have to hide from him when he got here? Why have we not told him that I've been staying here? And why are we hanging out behind his back?"
Lucas stayed silent, so I continued. "Because we don't want to hurt him. Just like how I didn't want to hurt his feelings back in grade five," I explained, and Lucas sighed.
"If we continue going down this path, it's gonna hurt him more when he finds out we've been hiding it for so long, and lying about it," I continued when Lucas didn't say anything.
"You're right," Lucas nodded, and I'm shocked by how easily he admitted that.
"I know," I said.
Lucas rolled his eyes, and I smiled sadly.
Thankfully, my phone rang, interrupting our awkward silence.
"Hey Laur," I greeted.
"Yo, you wanna hang out before semi? We can invite Anna and make a day out of it," Lauren offered.
I briefly looked at Lucas before nodding. "Yeah sure. Are we meeting at your house orâ"
"Your house," she interrupted, and I immediately cringed.
"I don't think that's a good idea Lauren," I mumbled, not wanting to recreate what happened to Anna.
"Fine, fine. My house it is."
"Okay, I'll be there soon," I said before hanging up.
I stood up from the bed and faced Lucas. "I'm gonna go to Lauren's."
Lucas nodded, standing up as well. "I'll drive you," Lucas said as he went to grab his car keys from the top of his dresser.
"Let's go."
â¡
After two hours from being at Lauren's house, we suddenly came to the topic of who we would think would be a good match for Anna.
"Clearly Nate," Lauren said as she rolled her eyes.
I furrowed my eyebrows at the mention of the blond haired boy from our Calculus class. "Really? I would say Josh," I admitted, which caused Anna to cringe.
"Okay how about who I ship you both with?" Anna said suddenly and my eyes widened.
"I'm already dating someone so..." Lauren slowly looked my way with a smirk on her lips. "Emma."
My lips tightened, ready to hear the grossest guy in my school be mentioned. "Lucas," Anna chirped, and my eyebrows raised.
Lauren grinned, raising her hand so Anna can give her a high five. Once their hands met, I bit my lip, remembering what we spoke about at his house.
"What?" Lauren asked, and a sigh left me.
"I didn't tell you both yet but... Lucas and I kissed," I confessed, which caused both Lauren and Anna to drop their mouths open dramatically.
Cringing, I slapped both of their faces. "Stop. It's not a big deal."
Anna and Lauren shared a look before locking their attention on me. "Not a big deal? You guys have hated each other for almost six years," Lauren said truthfully.
Anna shoved her and moved so she was sitting across from me. "Tell us everything," Anna said as she began to move closer excitedly.
I sighed, starting from the beginning. After ten or so minutes, I was halfway through describing my conversation with Lucas today when Lauren interrupted me.
"Please don't tell me you actually ended it," Lauren said, narrowing her eyes.
I bit my lip, slowly nodding. "Yeah. But we didn't end it if we didn't start anything to begin with!"
Lauren rolled her eyes, letting Anna continue. "Jason shouldn't be the reason for you both not to be together," she confessed, and I shrugged, pretending it didn't matter.
"Us being in a relationship would ruin a lot of things," I said, feeling a small pit in my stomach.
Lauren sighed dramatically. "Damn girl. Just don't give a shit. Simple."
I shoved her shoulder before standing on my feet. "Come on, let's just get ready for semi. We have less than two hours to be ready."
Anna jumped up excitedly. "Yay, party!"
