Chapter 27
My eyes stayed glued to Anna's unmoving body before I finally shifted my gaze back to the three men, who were now descending down my porch steps.
"I wouldn't try anything if I were you," I snarled, and they all seemed to repress a smile.
The man in the middle lifted up his sunglasses, letting it rest on top of his head. His eyes were a icy blue color, and I momentarily felt paralyzed.
"Emma Sullivan, I believe that you should come with us," he spoke coldly, and I raised my eyebrows.
Already knowing I'm not going to respond, all three of them suddenly began taking closer steps towards me.
Without thinking twice, my right arm shot up in front of me, and I tapped into my telekinesis, letting the power flow directly to my hand.
I shut my eyes tightly, but opened them when I heard a grunt. When I saw all three men on the ground â hopefully unconscious, I rushed to Anna's side.
"Emma?" Lauren asked from her seat in the car.
"Stay inside Lauren!" I shouted, not wanting her to get caught in the crossfires.
"Anna wake up," I whispered as I fell to my knees next to her.
Her strawberry blonde hair was spread out around her, and I began to worry if she would wake up.
"Anna please," I whispered again, shaking her shoulder slightly hard.
Anna still stayed silent, right when Jason's front door swings open.
"Emma!" Jason yelled, running his way towards me.
Looking behind him, I noticed Lucas following along.
"Take her inside, please," I spoke quietly as I quickly swiped away a single tear that fell from my eye.
Jason nodded slowly, taking in my appearance before kneeling down to pick up Anna bridal style.
"Are you okay?" Lucas whispered next to me once Jason was inside of his house.
I shut my eyes tightly and shook my head once.
Lucas rested his hand on my shoulder briefly for comfort, but he suddenly ripped his hand off from me.
Turning around, I looked at Lucas, only to find his attention on something entirely different.
One of the men was waking up.
Without looking back to me, Lucas took long strides towards his moving body, and stopped until he was right at his feet.
Suddenly, Lucas bends down and wraps his hand around the mans neck, lifting him up until his feet were just a few inches off of the ground.
Although Lucas's back is to me, I saw how tense his shoulders became when the man smiled sickly at the sight of Lucas.
"Why are you here?" Lucas growled.
The man kept his smirk as he replied. "You know why, Lucas Scott."
Lucas kept silent. "What were your orders?" He asked after a long amount of time.
"Take her to the boss. Bringing you would be a bonus as well," he said, directing a wink at me before his eyes widened.
"You look at me, not her," he snarled, tightening his hold on his neck before slightly loosening.
"Why do you need her?"
The man smirked again. "She's... special. And we're not the only ones who will come for her. More will," he laughed and Lucas tightened his hold on his neck once again.
"Well I guess I'll have to kill a lot of you then," he whispered before putting more pressure into his neck, until he suddenly, drops down to the floor.
"Please tell me he's just unconscious Lucas," I said, staring at him wide eyed.
He looked at me blankly. "He's dead."
Holy shit, Lucas just killed someone.
I'm ready to give him a lecture when suddenly, I heard footsteps coming from behind me.
Spinning around, I found the other two men already on their feet, making their way towards us.
"You see your friend down there? I will promise you that I will do the same to you if you don't back, the fuck off," Lucas growled, stepping next to me.
Both men froze, and looked back to each other before casting their attention to their fallen friend.
Without another word being spoken, they both transport away, leaving behind a grey mist from where they once stood.
I sighed a breath of relief before rushing to the driver's side of Lauren's door.
"Are you okay?" I asked her, but her attention was still in front of her.
"Lauren?" I said, gently shaking her.
I looked over my shoulder, ready to ask for his help until I saw him touch the now deceased man. Suddenly, the man has disappeared from my sight.
"Were did you put him?" I whispered loudly as I marched my way over to him.
"Inside a car at the junk yard twenty minutes from here," he stated simply, and my eyes widened as his lack of emotion.
I cleared my throat. "Lauren needs help getting inside, I think she's frozen from shock or something."
Lucas nodded before taking long steps to the front of her door. "Let's go Martinez," he said before picking her up.
Lucas easily lifted her up bridal style, and took her to the inside of Jason's house.
I waited anxiously by Jason's front porch when Lucas came back outside.
"How's Anna?" I asked right away.
Lucas closed the door behind him, and leaned against it. "She's a little drowsy, but she's okay."
I slowly nodded, feeling responsible for today's events.
I knew someone was coming for me, but I took them to my house anyways.
Suddenly, Lucas's warm hands land on each of my shoulders. "Everything's fine," he calmed me, and I slowly nodded.
I stayed silent as we both looked in each others eyes, and I was completely hypnotized by his icy blue eyes, which seemed to have frozen me in my state.
"I want you to stay at my house, Emma," Lucas said suddenly.
"But what about your dad?" I rushed out, remembering the fear his father gave me.
"He won't go near you," he spoke low, and I slowly nodded at his seriousness.
After looking at me for a brief moment, Lucas sighed and slowly wrapped his arms around me, bringing me against his hard chest.
Once my state of shock vanished, I wrapped my arms around his neck and hugged him back.
As we begin to pull away, I briefly glance to his eyes before shifting my gaze to his lips.
"We should head inside," Lucas whispered near my lips, letting me have a clear smell of his peppermint breath.
I nodded slowly, still entrapped in his gaze.
Lucas moved away from me, and went to open the door for the both of us.
He stepped inside first, but throws a look back to me before entering fully.
God, what's going on with me?
â¡
The days passed fast, leading us to Sunday.
I decided to take part in Lucas's offer and stay at his house for the time being.
Now as we reached Sunday, I began to wake up by the ray of sunlight peaking up behind the curtains.
Once my eyes have opened, I take it my current predicament.
Wrapped in Lucas's arms.
Of course, I'm not as surprised as I would have been months ago. Considering how tired we were last night from playing BeanBoozled, shock did not pass me as I saw everything on the floor with Lucas spooning me from behind.
Deciding not to be a total bitch and wake him up, I slowly moved out of his hold, but froze when I saw him shuffling around.
Thankfully, he settled on his back on the left side of his king size bed, so I sat down and leaned against the headboard as I reached for my phone that rested on the nightstand.
After ten minutes from scrolling through Instagram, Lucas began moving around on his side of the mattress until he faced me, slowly fluttering his eyes open.
"Well, good morning sunshine," I commented as I saw him narrow his eyes.
"Shut up. What time is it?" He asked, before lying flat on his back to stretch out his arms, almost hitting me in the face.
"Ten," I stated blankly as I continued scrolling on my phone.
Lucas didn't respond for a while so I took a quick look at him, only to see his attention on me.
"What are you wearing Thursday?" He asked, referring to semi.
"A blue dress. Nothing crazy honestly. Why?"
He rolled his eyes as he sat up, leaning against the headboard next to me. "So I could get a matching tie, dumb ass."
I dropped my phone dramatically on the duvet as my wide eyes slowly moved to Lucas. "If anyone in this room is a dumb ass, it's you, Scott."
Not bothering to argue, he rolled his eyes and moved off of the bed.
Once he's standing, he turned around and gave me a slick smirk before throwing a pillow, directly to my face.
"Fuck you," I shouted as Lucas laughed loudly, walking out of his room.
As he shut the door to his room, I made sure my phone was on the nightstand before I left Lucas's bed.
After I've brushed my teeth in Lucas's bathroom, I headed out in my pajamas, which were honestly just sweats and a tank top.
Jogging down the stairs, I slowly began to hear soft humming which I immediately recognized it to be Sadie â Lucas's former nanny, and current cook.
"Hi Sadie," I grinned as I walked into Lucas's brightly lit kitchen.
Sadie turned around from the stove and gave me a million dollar smile. "Hi sweetie."
I sent her one last smile before moving to the long table, sitting on Lucas's right.
Sadie was first confused with my recent stay here, but now, she doesn't bother questioning it.
"Why are you watching this?" I asked as I saw Lucas watching clips of endangered animals.
He briefly glanced to me before looking back to his phone. I hid back my smile as I watched him learn how to help animals in need.
I guess Lucas still wanted to be a veterinarian after all.
"Yo!" Someone suddenly shouted from the front of the house once they've opened the door.
I looked away from Lucas and found Jason sporting a grin as he made his way towards us. "Hey Em. When did you get here?"
"Thirty minutes ago," I lied.
He slowly nodded at my fast response and took a seat across from me. During that time, I glanced at Lucas and saw him throw me a wink before starting a conversation with Jason.
â¡
After each of us finished the two boiled eggs Sadie had given us, we all moved to the living room, where Jason used the current opportunity to try to teach me how to transport.
"I give up!" I shouted dramatically as I stomped my way to the couches.
Once I've flopped face down, I heard Jason's muffled groan. "Emma you need to learn how to do this. What if you're in danger and we can't help you?" Jason said, and fear started prickling its way up to me.
"It's too difficult," I whispered as I turned around to lay on my back.
Jason sighed as he made his way to me. "You just need practice Em. You'll get the hang of it."
I slowly nodded, ready to try again, but was distracted by the couch dipping behind me.
Without warning, my head was lifted, but slowly goes down, resting on Lucas's lap. "Let's watch a movie, then we can continue this torture," he said, and I nodded in agreement.
"Yup, I'm with Lucas for this one," I grinned as I sat up, leaning against the seat next to Lucas.
Jason sighed once again before sitting on the opposite side of Lucas. "Find a movie."
I grinned and grabbed Lucas's remote before pointing it at the TV in front of us.
After more than ten minutes of arguing of what movie to watch, we all settled with watch Spy, featuring Melissa McCarthy.
Less than two hours into the movie, Jason's soft snores fill the room.
"Is he sleeping?" I laughed quietly, and Lucas chuckled, nodding.
I shook my head before paying attention to the film.
But was frozen when I felt a large hand rest on my thigh.
Even through I was wearing sweatpants, I felt the heat from his touch through the fabric.
Slowly glancing at Lucas, I found that his eyes were already on me, watching how I would react.
"Enjoying the movie?" I asked lowly, trying to ignore the burn his touch is giving me.
Lucas slowly nodded, and I couldn't help but glance at his lips again.
How did I get from being friends with him, to liking him, to hating him, to being slightly okay with him, to suddenly feeling like a kid high on sugar when he's near?
"Sometimes I'm surprised it took us this long to be close again," he whispered, and I pressed my head against the couch, deeply interested in what he has to say.
"How so?"
His lips lifted slightly, but he fought back the smile before continuing. "In fifth grade, I was angry, and every year you and Jason got closer, I got jealous. He was with you constantly. It's like he chose you, which made me hate you more," he confessed, and I couldn't help but rest my hand on top of the one he left on my thigh.
"When you were gone, I kept on thinking back on our wasted time. I was a fucking kid. An immature one at that. But through all of that, I still felt the same way about you," he whispered, and my heart began to speed up.
Emotions that I had for him back to when I was only ten years old came flooding back to me, and I couldn't help but move my gaze all around him, remembering how much he's changed throughout this time.
I sucked in a large intake of breath as I saw Lucas glance down to my parted lips before slowly leaning closer to me, until our noses were barely touching.
Just before our lips can brush each others, the credits began rolling, followed by loud music, which woke up Jason.
As quick as we could, we moved far from each other, pretending to stretch from exhaustion.
"Let's start again?" Jason yawned, and Lucas and I looked at each other before quickly looking away.
"Okay, let's go."
â¡
For the rest of the day, the three of us either spent it on working on transporting, or just eating food.
At ten, we finished eating when Jason stood up from his seat. "Okay, I should head out. Em, you need a ride?"
I glanced between my empty plate to Jason. "No thanks I'llâ"
"I'll take her home soon," Lucas interrupted, and I slowly sighed a breath of relief.
Jason shrugged, grabbing his phone from the table before walking to the front of the house.
Lucas and I both stood up, following Jason to the front door.
"See you tomorrow," Jason waved before opening the door, letting himself out of the house.
"Sleep?" Lucas immediately asked once the door was shut behind Jason.
I lifted my hand up, and he gave me a high five.
We both raced upstairs, and I shockingly beat him.
I totally did not trip him outside of his room, which caused him to stumble to the side.
Once we're both on the other side of the closed door, I go to grab a pillow off of the bed before throwing it hard in Lucas's direction.
"Out."
Lucas decided to smirk instead, and sat down by his chair. "I'm fine right here."
"Next time I'm on my period, I will promise you now that I will throw my bloody fucking pad if you do not leave right now," I said emotionless, and Lucas's eyes widened.
Thankfully from that statement, Lucas decided to take his leave, giving me enough time to change into some shorts before he knocked on the door, whining to get in.
"Yes you child, come in," I rolled my eyes as I saw his gleeful expression.
"Where did you get those clothes from?" I asked, commenting on his different outfit.
"Well when you were busy glaring at me, I grabbed some clothes," he said before running towards the bed.
Once he's jumped on top of it, the bed moved, and I sighed, slowly walking to the opposite side of the bed to put my phone on charge by the nightstand.
"I'm exhausted," I yawned as Lucas turned off the lights to his bedroom.
The only source of light was the moon shining through the window.
I turn my body so I'm facing Lucas, and he follows my lead, giving me a good look of his icy blue eyes that don't seem to freeze me anymore.
They seem to be melting instead.
Without warning, Lucas's hand lands on top of the curve of my waist, right where my tank top rose.
His burning hand on my cool skin makes me shiver slightly, and I glance back up to see Lucas's eyes already trained on me.
"I like you Emma," Lucas reminded me lowly, and I chose not to pay attention to the fact that he was slowly moving closer to me.
I like you too. The words were threatening to leave me, but I just couldn't form them.
Lucas's peppermint breath fans my face, and our noses graze each others before we both shut our eyes, entrapped in the moment we've created for ourselves.
Lucas uses his hand on my waist to pull our lower halves closer, and uses his other hand to cup my cheek, gently guiding his finger up and down my cheek until he stops.
Already impatient, I wrap my hand into Lucas's blond curls before guiding his lips down to my own.
