Chapter 13
After school, I decided to kill some time and head to Anna's house with Lauren.
Of course, imagine my surprise when I found her older brother sprawled on the couch with a bucket of popcorn while watching Dear John.
All three of us laugh as we run upstairs, hearing the explanations roll out of his tongue from below us.
Throughout the evening, we made it official that we will be going to the carnival tomorrow closer to night time with Jason and Dylan.
Lauren casually asked if I was going to invite Adam along with us, but I shrugged at the idea.
I'm sure he has found someone else to go with, anyways.
For Lucas, however, that's a different story.
When I got back home that night, I spoke with Jason on the phone as he explained his reasons to why he doesn't want to see Lucas at the carnival.
Me, being the supportive friend I am, agreed to what he was saying, and chose to not invite him with us all tomorrow.
But, some weird feeling in my stomach disagreed otherwise.
I'm woken up on Saturday by a ring flooding my house.
Fluttering my eyes open, I check the time on my nightstand and find that it's 11.47am.
"Shit," I mumble under my breath as I hop out of bed.
I check myself in the mirror, and quickly put my messy hair into a bun on top of my head.
I rush down the stairs while rubbing my face, and before I know it, I'm in front of the entrance, opening the front door.
Someone zooms past me, and I widen my eyes. "He's such a child!" I hear Jason say as he passes by me.
I sigh softly, and shut the door. Turning around, I find Jason leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. He clenches his jaw, and turns his head the other direction.
"What happened now?" I ask cautiously as I'm walking up to him slowly.
He scoffs. "What hasn't he done by now?"
I go on the other side of the wall, and lean back. I wait a couple more seconds to see if Jason's going to add anything else.
My assumptions turn out to be correct when his eyes connect with mine. "I tried being the bigger person. I called him 3 times. It rings, but then it stops! He's ignoring my calls."
He scoffs a second time, and begins pacing in front of me. "Unbelievable," he growls under his breath.
He continues pacing until a thought passing through his brain, leading him to stand in front of me with a serious look on his face.
"He distances himself from me, and gets closer to Adam. Gets into 2 fights. One of them involving one of his best friends. Knocks you in the face," he pauses and runs his hand down his face.
"I don't know what to do Em," he says sadly once he's dropped his hand.
I guess Lucas doesn't know how to follow advice.
Not knowing what to do in the moment, I go on my tippy toes, and wrap my arms around his neck. I hug him tightly. "I'm sorry Jase," I move my head away from his chest so I'm looking at him. "You shouldn't pay attention to him. He doesn't deserve your attention."
He purses his lips, and looks the other direction.
I slowly remove my hands off of him, and shove him on the shoulder. "Come on, let's go to my room."
I wait for him to look at me, and once he does, I smile brightly.
Of course, Jason being unable to not smile when someone else is smiling, joins me.
Once we're in my room, Jason lies on the bed, with his eyes trained on me.
I rush to my closet and grab some sweats. I quickly shed off my shorts, and put on my favorite pants.
"Just like old times, huh?" He laughs, remembering all the times I would change in front of him with no care in the world.
"Yup," I wink and he chuckles, looking back up at the ceiling.
I look at myself in the mirror once more before looking at Jason motionless body. "I'm gonna brush my teeth real quick."
Not waiting for him to respond, I go inside my bathroom, and shut the door from behind me.
As I'm putting toothpaste on my toothbrush, I begin remembering what Jason said to me downstairs only moments ago.
Then, what my mother told me in my dream rings in my ears.
Stay away from Lucas Scott. He's no good, honey. You can't trust him.
He's no good? Yeah, he's done some bad things... but that shouldn't define him.
Trust... well that's completely different. I lost my trust in him a month after he broke our friendship.
"Emma! Stinkier than normal?" Trish, one of my classmates shouts from across the hall as I'm leaving my Grade 5 class for recess.
I furrow my eyebrows and ignore Trish's comments.
I begin making my way to the small little hill where me, Anna, and Lauren usually meet, before I hear something.
"What a loser! Who still sleeps with a blankie? She's gonna be 11, not 1!" I hear Hayden Lee shout from where he's standing.
I turn my head to find where he is, and find him standing beside a smirking, already 11 year old Lucas.
"Yeah, that's Emma Sullivan for you," Lucas laughs along with him, and I gasp.
He's... talking about me.
By the time I'm out of my little trance from 6 years ago, I don't even realize that I've already finished brushing my teeth.
I lick my lips just as I'm opening the bathroom door - only to find a sleeping Jason in the same position he was a few minutes ago.
I slowly walk out of the bathroom, with a huge grin on my face.
I decide to disturb his sleep, and run towards the bed, only to jump on top of him.
I land right on his stomach, but can't get a laugh out before he groans and shoves me off the bed.
"Jason," I groan from the ground, holding my elbow in a tight grip.
"Hey that's your fault," he peers down, and looks at me with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
I'm about to give him an earful until I hear my phone ringing from my night stand.
"This isn't over," I mouth, playfully glaring at him before I pick up my phone.
"Hello?" I ask, sitting down on my bed.
"Emmy!" Anna shouts, and I flinch, removing the phone away from my ear to rub it.
"Yeah Annie?" I ask once the phone in next to my ear again.
"Me, and Lauren are on our way, so just unlock the door for us or something," he says through the line, and I look at Jason's emotionless face.
"Uh, okay. Yeah, no problem," I say once I've realized I didn't say anything.
"Great! See-ya soon," at that, she hangs up.
I put my phone down, and look over my shoulder. "Anna and Lauren are coming now, you should go."
"Kicking me out I see," he shoves my shoulder playfully, and I roll my eyes.
"I'll walk you out," I state, standing up at the same time as him.
â¡
A little less than 10 minutes later, the girls come inside.
We spent the whole afternoon talking about Lauren and Dylan's relationship, and Anna briefly mentioned Lucas, but I chose to tune out that part of the conversation.
Slowly, throughout the whole day, the guilt of not telling both of my best girl friends what I'm hiding was eating me up inside.
So, I decided to push away Jason's warning and tell them.
While we were all sitting on my bed, I waited until Anna, and Lauren finished talking about The 100 until I finally made my move.
"Guys, I need to tell you something," I look between them both, and as if they sense my seriousness, their smiles disappear and switched with a look of concern.
"You okay Emmy?" Anna asks, and I tightly smile.
I move so I'm sitting on both of their lefts. "I found out about this about... almost 2 weeks ago. And I wanted to tell you, I did. But I was warned it would be dangerous."
I stop talking when I see both Anna and Lauren having a fearful expression on their faces. "I'm a witch," I rush out before thinking.
Their faces suddenly morph from fearful to emptiness. Before I know it, they're both laughing.
"Are you gonna show us a magic trick now!" Anna shouts when her laughter calms down.
"Ohh I'm shaking in my boots!" Lauren laughs loudly, which causes Anna to follow along.
"Stop, guys. I'm serious," I stand up so I'm in front of both of them, and shake both of their shoulders.
I clench my jaw when they're still laughing at their own joke, and decide to snatch Lauren's phone out of her hand.
Her laughter suddenly stops. "Do you want to die?" She asks me, her voice void of emotion.
I set her phone on my dresser, and turn around quickly. "I'm gonna prove it to you."
I walk to my closed door, and turn back around so my back is leaning against the door.
There is a good couple feet in between me and the phone.
I look at Anna and Lauren's confused expression before I shut my eyes, and raise my hand up.
I focus on her phone flying to my hand, and pray to any God up there that this works.
When I feel Lauren's phone in my hand, I grin just as I open my eyes.
I turn my head to the side and find Anna's mouth hanging open, and Lauren's eyes wide.
"I know! It's crazy, but... I'm a witch," I smile, scared of what their next moves are gonna be.
"That... is..." Anna looks down, and swallows before continuing. "Amazing," her wide eyes meet mine, and I grin when I see her starting to smile.
"Wow... that is... wow," Lauren smiles as well, and I sigh a breath of relief.
I sit down on the bed. "I'm so happy I told you guys," I confess.
Anna looks at me suddenly with confusion. "How did you find out? Wait, how do you control it? What powers do you have? Are-" I cut her off before her brain begins to hurt.
"Let me just start from the beginning," I grin.
â¡
By the time I finish telling them both the whole story, Jason calls me, letting me know that Dylan's gonna come pick us up in an hour.
We all dressed up in black leggings, and Anna brought a light pink shirt, while Lauren stuck with an all black outfit. Me, on the other hand wore a grey tank top with a light blue flannel wrapped around my waist.
By the time it was 7.30pm, Dylan was parked on my driveway.
Lauren ran to Dylan's open arms, and gave him a kiss on the lips before jumping in the backseat with Anna.
Both Jason, and I locked our houses and walked up to Dylan at the same time.
"Hey Dylan," I wave politely, and he smiles.
Jason places his arm over my shoulder as he comes from behind me. "Sup Parker?"
Just as they're getting into conversation, I lift Jason's arm off my shoulder, and I move around Dylan so I'm entering the backseat.
"Ready?" I wiggle my eyebrows, and Lauren rubs her hands together.
"Ready to kick my loving boyfriend in balloon darts? Hell yeah."
I smile, and roll my eyes playfully as the boys get in the car.
â¡
We're at the carnival, and parked by the time it's 8.00pm.
Lauren and Dylan started walking first, so they're a few steps in front of Anna, Jason, and I.
Just as we spot the entrance of the carnival, Anna stops abruptly, and I stop walking and look over my shoulder. "What's going on Annie?"
Jason, who notices I'm no longer beside him, stops as well.
She smirks, and points to the wall next to the entrance. "Lover boy. One o'clock."
I turn around and scan the wall until my eyes finally catch what Anna was pointing at.
Adam. Who's with Brianna.
I furrow my eyebrows, and look down to my shoes. Since when do they know each other?
I ignore the little feeling of hurt in my stomach, and look up, only to shrug. "So? Come on Anna, we're gonna loss Lauren."
I stand next to Jason and we both begin walking more closer to Lauren. Seconds pass, and I feel Anna's presence on my left.
As we're getting our tickets, I discretely look to the side to see Adam, only to see his eyes already pinned on me.
He opens his mouth, telling Brianna something. Before I can understand what's going on, He leaves her, and starts jogging in my direction.
"Em, let's go," Jason says, grabbing a hold of my arm and dragging me past the security.
Once we're safely inside, Lauren turns around, and is about to tell me something before she gets interrupted.
"I knew I saw a Sunshine somewhere," I hear behind me.
I hide my small smile, and turn to face Adam. "Ah, you and your cheesy lines."
His smile brightens, and looks over my shoulder. "Sorry everyone, I'm stealing her for a little while," he doesn't let anyone argue as he grabs my hand, and guides me away from my group of friends.
My eyes widen, still somewhat hesitant being around him. However, I choose to use this experience to understand more about him.
I look over my shoulder as Adam guides me where I should walk. "I'll meet up with you later!"
We walk around for a short amount of time before Adam breaks the silence. "So Sunshine... Should I call you Sunny for short? What do you prefer?"
I stay silent, not knowing what to say. Adam takes a peak at me, and slowly nods his head. "Yeah I agree. Sunshine is way better."
My mouth automatically lifts, but I quickly hide it before he can look.
"You know what my nickname was back in New York?" He stops, and I wait for him to explain. I look at him, and find that his eyes are already on me. "The Assman," he grins.
A snort escapes me, and he begins to defend himself. "Hey! I was really big on working out on my gluts last year. People caught along."
"Or it's just because you're an ass?" I offer, and he shrugs.
"That too probably," he stops walking, and I turn around.
"What?" I furrow my eyebrows, and a grin suddenly forms on his face.
"Oh yeah, we're totally going on that," Adam rushes to me, and grabs my hand.
He starts guiding me to a line to ride on the bumper cars.
"Oh, I'm totally gonna kick your ass in this!" I shout victoriously.
"We'll see about that," he smirks devilishly as we're walking to the person controlling the amount of people entering.
He asks how much people are with us, and I say two. He then opens the gate for us to go through, and I immediately run to the blue one.
Once my seat belt is on, I look around and find Adam inside a black car across the room.
He points to himself, and then to me as he mouths, "I'm gonna get you."
Once everyone is seated, the cars turn on and I immediately start driving so I'm behind Adam.
I bump into him 3 times throughout the ride, however towards the end, he gains control and starts moving the opposite way.
"No!" I shout as a laugh escapes me.
"Yes!" He shouts as he bumps into me, and corners my car.
"Not fair," I laugh as he keeps on bumping into me.
"It's very fair," he smirks.
He about to bump into me again, but the cars shut off.
"Thank you for riding the bumper cars. Enjoy the rest of your night!" The person who's speaking through the intercom says.
I sigh, sad it ended so fast.
Once I've unbuckled my seat belt, I start up, moving side to side slowly.
Adam moves so he's next to me. He grabs a hold of my arm, and helps me get out of the car. "You okay?"
Looking up so both of our blue eyes connect, I grin. "Yeah," I look at the space around us, and point to the Ferris Wheel before continuing. "Let's go on the Ferris Wheel."
We pay to go on the Ferris Wheel, and soon after, we're both in the air.
I'm looking at the view when Adam speaks. "So Sunshine, tell me about yourself."
I turn to face him. "Uh, my favorite color's blue?"
He shakes his head as he chuckles. "That I know. What about family? I've never heard you talk about them."
I clear my throat, and look at the view again. "Well, I live with my dad in our family home."
"Oh, is your mom..." he doesn't finish, so I decide to finish for him.
"She died. Along with my older sister," I mumble as a shaky breath is released from me.
"Oh, Emma... I'm so sorry," Adam wraps his arm around my shoulder, and guides my head to rest on his chest.
We stay in silence for a little longer until he breaks the silence again. "I lost my mom, and younger sister in a fire 5 years ago."
I move away from him, and look at him with a hurt expression. "Oh, Adam."
I let my hand rest on his shoulder. "I'm so sorry for your loss."
He shrugs, looking away. "It was a long time ago."
"Time never eases the pain," I whisper, removing my hand off his shoulder.
He looks down, and stays quiet for a little longer until I hear him say something under his breath.
"You're right."
THIRD PERSON'S P.O.V
Lucas gains conscious, but all he can see is darkness.
At first, he believes it's because his eyes are covered, however he comes to the conclusion the room he's been hidden in, is dark.
He tries moving his hands but fails miserably since his hands are tied behind his back with a rope.
Lucas feels something cold touching his arms, and releases he's leaning against a cold metal pole, which is also dividing his arms.
Shutting his eyes, he tries using his powers to untie the ropes but after waiting a few seconds, he opens his eyes and growls.
"Magic doesn't work in this room, Lucas," Jasmine says, as she's hiding herself in a dark corner.
"Why?" He barks, and she just chuckles.
Jasmine emerges from the shadows, with a evil look on her face. "Why? Why what? Why I shot you? Why I befriended your beloved Emma? Why are you here?"
She crosses her arms over her chest. "Shouldn't you be asking why you have no pain in your bullet wound?"
He furrows his eyebrows, but then remembers the series of events that happened. She shot me.
"When I get out of this, and trust me, I will," he says lowly before continuing. "I will not only tell Emma the shit you're doing, but I will kill you," he declares.
"And I have no doubt about it!" She shouts proudly, leaving Lucas more confused than before.
"Except with you telling Emma," Jasmine is suddenly in front of Lucas, and bends down so she's at eye level with him.
"If you tell Emma Sullivan my role, trust that I will kill you," she stands up and begins walking towards the door. She looks over her shoulder and gives him a innocent smile. "And next time, I won't miss your heart."
She stands next to the door, and faces Lucas. "Now, I would like to introduce to you, my boss."
The heavy metal door opens, and a man as tall as the door frame emerges.
His whole body is dark, however, Lucas can see his devilish smile through all the darkness. "Hello, Lucas Scott."

I promise I had a valid excuse! Starting with me dropping out of a course, and having to catch up to another a month in this semester. Plus, Passover happened and like... 3 tests.
But I'm back, and hopefully on schedule!
Sorry if there is more typos then normal, I didn't have time to edit. Well I do, but it takes me 30 minutes or more to edit and I don't want to keep you waiting anymore!
Thank you for reading, I love you all lots!
