Chapter 12

"Emma, sweetheart," someone calls.

My eyes flutter open, adjusting to the bright light in the room.

Once my eyes are used to the lighting, I widen my eyes, finding her right in front of me, tears spilling out of her eyes with no pause.

"M-mom?" I take a step forward, wanting to touch her, feel her warmth.

"Listen baby, we don't have much time," she croaks out, whipping her tears away.

I furrow my eyebrows. Not much time?

I finally take in my mom's appearance. She's wearing a lovely white dress that ends at her feet. Her hair is braided so elegantly, and I suddenly miss how she used to do my hair.

"Where are we mom?" I ask quietly, looking around a room that has white walls, flooring, and furniture.

"Somewhere where no one can hear us," she cups my cheek - the one that was hit - but quickly drops her hand like my touch was burning her.

I'm about to interrupt her again, but she raises her hand, silencing me.

"Honey. I'm not-I'm not here for pleasure. I need to warn you baby," she starts to tear up again and I look at her in fear.

"Warn me from what?" I ask slowly.

"I'm so sorry I never told you. I was going to tell you, I swear. But I never thought he was capable-" she stops talking, and shuts her eyes tightly.

"Who was capable? You... you mean you know who crashed into us? They did it on purpose?" I ask, wide eyed, but she stays silent.

She opens her eyes, and I feel like I'm staring into my own eyes. "Honey, I wasn't honest with you about a lot of things. But I was honest about one thing. My love for you. And how I would always protect you."

She stops, and laughs softly, hitting me hard in my heart. "I guess that's 2 things."

Sighing, she continues. "I can't tell you much. I wish I could. But I can tell you one thing," she clenches her jaw before continuing. "Stay away from Lucas Scott. He's no good, honey. You can't trust him."

I widen my eyes at her accusation. "Mom... where is this coming from?"

She doesn't answer, and I speak a little louder. "Mom, tell me what's going on!"

Suddenly, her head shoots to the side, as if she's hearing something from a great distance.

Mom looks at me seconds later, and she rushes up to me. Grasping my shoulders, she pulls me into a hug. "I love you baby. Remember, don't trust anyone. Especially those who recently came into your life."

Before I can remember her warmth, I wake up.

Gasping for breath, I clench my shirt that's over my heart, which is beating rapidly.

I-it felt so real.

I touch my bruised cheek, remembering how she held it so carefully, softly.

A tear escapes my eye, and I viciously wipe it away.

Deciding to forget about my dream for now, I choose to get ready for school.

Thank goodness it's Friday.

Once I'm in dark denim jeans and a navy blue v neck t-shirt, I tuck in the shirt into my jeans and head downstairs.

I lock up my house, assuming my dad went to work early again, and am entering Jason's house in less than a minute.

"Hey, Lucas isn't here?" I ask when I only find Jason sitting on the couch.

He glances at me, then stares back at the fireplace. "With Adam," he sighs.

"Aw Jase," I pout as he's standing up from his seat.

"Whatever," he mumbles under his breath as he's walking past me.

I sigh, and follow him outside to his car.

We're at school a couple minutes later, and it takes a couple more minutes to find a parking spot.

As we're walking towards the entrance, Jason comes to a halt, and I turn around raising my eyebrows at his angry behavior. "What's going on?"

His gaze is still locked on whatever is happening in front of him, but he nods his head to the direction he's looking at.

Huffing out a puff of air, I turn around and find Lucas and Adam smirking at our direction.

Oh great. I roll my eyes at the staring contest they're having, and drag Jason by the arm towards the front of the school.

Once we're nearing the doors, Adam begins jogging in our direction. Oh great, again.

He stops right in front of me, and eyes my whole face, body, and then focuses his gaze on my bruised cheek I tried my best to cover with foundation.

His face sobers up, losing the typical smirk on his face. He raises his hand, slowly palming my cheek while dragging his thumb softly across the bruise.

I flinch, and he removes his hand off my face.

Suddenly, Lucas is right next to Adam.

I lower my eyes, not wanting to stare at his intense gaze. All four of us are silent.

After what feels like a minute, I look up and find Lucas's eyes trained on me.

"Sunshine..." Adam says, causing me to look away from Lucas's all-consuming gaze.

I laugh bitterly. "Trust me, I'm no Sunshine, Adam."

Adam smirks, putting a random strand of hair behind my ear. "Well I somehow doubt that. You're here. And you're brightening my day."

For the first time in the last couple days, Lucas and Jason have something in common - their annoyance of Adam.

Lucas continues to glare at him, and Jason takes this moment to grasp my bicep, dragging me into the school.

"Hey, I need to talk to him," I say, tugging my arm out of his hold, but fail when he tightens his grip on me.

"Who?" Jason asks, zig-zagging through people in the hall.

"Adam. I need to ask what's his deal," I explain in a duh tone.

Jason doesn't respond, and doesn't stop walking.

For good measure, I try to tug my arm out of his hold once again, but fail. Eh, at least I can say I tried.

We're outside room 231 soon after, and Jason finally lets go of me.

He turns around swiftly, staring at me intensely. "Meet me in room 322 at lunch." At that, he turns around, walking into class.

I follow him into class, ready to ask him what for, but get interrupted by Anna and Lauren.

Damn it.

♡

By the time lunch comes, I can't leave the room fast enough.

My bladder is the size of a peanut.

I rush into the bathroom, and empty out my insides a little later than 30 seconds.

I'm clean and rinsed 5 minutes after the lunch bell rang, so I decide to make myself fashionably late by walking slow all 3 flights of stairs.

I'm outside the room Jason asked me to meet him in, and I hesitate before opening the door.

Resting my hand on the handle, I slowly open the door, only to find it pitch black.

I step into the room, and shut the door quickly behind me. "Jason?" I call out quietly.

My eyes adjust to the new setting, and I suddenly find 3 cans of cola seperated by 2 desks at the very end of the class.

What the...

"Jason, I swear to God if you are hiding and are planning on scaring me..." I leave my threat hanging, hoping he'll get the message.

"Alright, alright. Buzz kill," he mumbles behind me, and I swirl around, shoving him back.

"Why am I here, Jas?" I ask, crossing my arms.

He grins, and takes my hand in his, guiding me in the center of the room near the teacher's desk.

"We... are going to practice using telekinesis," he rests his hands on his hip, proud of himself.

"Wh-what?" I exhale, waiting for him to explain.

He rolls his eyes. "I'm gonna help you control your magic, dumbo. Starting with telekinesis," he holds my shoulders, moving me to the side slightly. "I'll show you what to do, and you just try copying me, okay?"

I slowly nod in understanding. "Great," he grins.

His attention is suddenly on a can of coke, and he shuts his eyes. He lifts up his hand in preparation to catch the can.

In a matter of seconds, the cans flies into his grasp perfectly.

Whoa...

I stare wide-eyed at his hold on the can, then back to his face. "Can you show me how?"

He opens his eyes, and smiles. He nods, and places the can on the teachers desk behind him. "Come here."

I take two long steps to him, and he holds my hips so I'm right in front of the second can of cola.

"Listen to my voice, okay?" He whispers in my ear, and I nod slowly.

"Clear every thought you have in your mind. Erase it," he stops speaking, and I nod. He starts again. "Clear everything, except of the thought of that can coming into your hand. Feel the movement."

He lifts my dominant hand up, and I do what he did before, which is holding my hand up as if it was holding the can already.

"Ready?" He asks at my side, and I close my eyes, slowly nodding.

I scrunch up my face, and and try to focus on it coming my way, however by the sound of glass shattering, I assume I failed.

I flutter my eyes open, and I can't find the can anywhere in the room.

"Emma, let's just try again," Jason says. I turn around to face him, but I see what I ended up hitting in the background.

The fucking window.

"Fuck," I groan, dropping my hand.

"It's okay Em, it's your first time trying to control it. Try again," he reassures and I sigh loudly.

I shut my eyes closed once again, and picture it flying to my hand. However, instead of feeling it in my grip, I hear a groan.

I open my eyes fast, and find the other can on the floor next to Jason's feet.

I slowly look up, and find Jason holding his right cheek.

"Oh, my God. Jason are you okay? I'm so sorry!" I apolgozie profoundly, and he just laughs.

"It's okay Em. Now we can match," he winks at me with his good side.

I shutter. "I think it's best for me not to do this anymore."

Jason glares at me, and drops his hand from his face. "No. You're not giving up," he bends down, and picks up the can that is on the floor.

He walks to the end of class, and sets the can hard on the desk, then turning around to walk back to me.

"Now. Go," he demands, standing still next to me, arms crossed.

I groan loudly, and he shoots me a glare. "Go," he mouths.

I breathe deeply, and stand in front of the can. I lift my hand up, and close my eyes, trying to focus harder than I did previously.

Every thought leaves me, and I feel magic pouring out of me.

The next thing I know, I feel the tin can in my grasp.

My eyes open, and immediately widen when I see the can in safely in my hold.

"Oh my God!" I shout, dropping the can down to the ground.

I grin, and look at Jason, happiness spreading all through me. "I did it!"

"Damn right you did!" He grins, and he takes a step closer to me. He wraps his arms around me quick and lifts me off the floor, spinning me around.

Just he's setting me down, the classroom door opens.

I shift myself so I'm looking at the door, and find Lucas clenching the doorknob in such a tight grip I'm worried it will break.

Lifting my gaze higher, I find a dark look on his face. Right when our eyes lock, he clenches his jaw and walks out, slamming the door shut.

I furrow my eyebrows at his behavior. "Lucas!" I call out, ready to leave the classroom.

Before I'm able to touch the doorknob, Jason grabs my arm. "Just leave him, Em. Let's keep practicing for now," he offers, and I hesitantly nod my head.

♡

Jason and I practiced until the warning bell rang, and from there, we went to our classes.

My coach sadly does not allow me to skip another day during fitness, so she makes me run laps to catch up to the rest of the class.

When the period ends, I rush to the third floor to get to my last class of the day, Chemistry.

Determined to talk to Lucas, I strut inside and find him near the windows.

I walk up to him, grab his shoulder, and turn him around so he's facing me.

"What's wrong, Lucas? You're being more... weird than you normally are," I cross my arms, waiting for him to reply, but he stares at me blankly.

I raise my eyebrows. "Are you going to answer?"

He blinks, still unmoving. Once the last bell rings however, he moves around my body and takes a seat in the very back.

I snort a little.

You're not done here, Scott.

♡

Throughout the whole period I was taking peaks at Lucas, but I got nothing.

Nada.

When the last bell of the day rang, I sprang up, ready to catch him leaving, but found him still talking to his friends in the back.

I put on the straps from my bag and walk towards him.

He's laughing along to some joke his friend is saying, and I clear my throat.

I finally get his attention, so I give him an innocent smile. "Can we talk?"

He stares at me silently, and right when I think he's gonna say no, he pushes his chair back and grabs his bag from the floor.

We're out of the room, and in a secluded part of the halway in less than a minute.

I glare at him. "Do I really have to give you crap again?"

He stays silent, looking at me like he has no care in the world. "I guess that's a yes," I grumble under my breath.

I look down to prepare my speech. Once I have my key points, I look up, determintion written all over me. "Once upon a time, we were friends. Good ones. You fucked it up, and that is how we're here now."

I take a shaky breath before continuing. "Our friendship may have died, but that shouldn't mean that yours should die with Jason. You both need each other, deny it or not, you do. You're brothers," I frown, remembering how close they were growing up.

I never cared, because Lucas was close to me too, but when our friendship ended, I realized how much Jason hung out with Lucas.

"Stop being a stubborn little bitch and realize that just because Adam doesn't 'force you' to be good, at least Jason sticks by your ass. Especially when you don't deserve him to be there for you," I mumble under my breath and Lucas's soft expression hardens quickly to a glare.

I scoff. "We both know you don't deserve his friendship."

Lucas looks down in defeat, and I sigh. "Remember what I said Lucas."

Then I leave, hoping that whatever I said sticks to him.

THIRD PERSON'S P.O.V

Lucas drives around the block a couple more times before finally settling in Emma's driveway.

Clenching his jaw, he decides to man up and be honest with her.

He reaches for his door handle, hesitating before opening the door.

She won't understand.

Shaking off all his negative thoughts, he walks confidently to her porch, knocking multiple times.

After getting no reply, he rings the doorbell twice.

Where is she?

He decides on telling her the truth tomorrow. Tomorrow for sure.

He nods his head, convincing himself.

As Lucas's making his way back into his car, another car pulls up across the street.

Squinting his eyes, he steps closer to the tinted car. Just as the driver's door opens, the world explodes.

Lucas is flung back, and is suddenly lying down on the grass, face up.

He groans, feeling a nasty kind of pain on his left shoulder. He slowly touches it, and once he raises his hand above his head, he widens his eyes.

Blood.

Lucas begins loosing conscious, and before he does, he finds the person who caused him this pain, walking his way.

Jasmine Rider.
