HALEY
I try to visualize each aspect of the battle, but itâs chaotic. I can see what some individuals will do, but not others.
Some, I guess, are waiting to choose their course of action. I canât see anything from Uncle Ryan, Realta, and Virgil.
~Moon Flower, is there anything happening?~ Virgil calls for my attention.
~Theyâre getting to the bear traps now.~ I alert everyone. Most of the warriors are in their wolves.
Freya and Realta are on opposite sides of their line. I saw why Freya is different. Iâm excited to see her in action.
The sun wonât be up for another hour, so we listen as the traps start to go off and the muffled cries of pain from the idiot wolves that donât know how to watch where theyâre walking. Alpha Grey scolds the seven that got tripped up through the link and I share it with Uncle Ryan, Kenneth, and Virgil.
Virgilâs wolf starts prancing his paws in anticipation. I pet his head and he looks up at me.
~Be careful. Not all of them are idiots. Try not to kill any pups if you donât have to.~ I connect to everyone, then only Virgil.
~I love you. Keep your mind clear and donât worry about me. Iâll be here the whole time watching and guiding.~
~Iâll try Moon Flower, but youâre always on my mind.~ I smile at him and he licks my hand.
Uncle Ryan lets out a thick, heavy howl and the first wave charges forward. We canât see from where we are so I share my vision with Virgil and Kenneth.
Close to a hundred wolves break through the trees and everything is in chaos. Realta and Freya both have palms glowing blue and anyone that comes near them falls to the ground shaking and seizing.
Those two are deadly. Uncle Ryan and the rest of the warriors tear through the line and the second wave is called in from Alpha Grey within minutes.
Virgil howls and our group rushes forward. I want to fight beside them, but Iâm better off giving orders, unfortunately.
~Link on your six!~ I call out. He moves just in time, but he still takes a bad hit.
Hank takes the wolf on, leaving Link on the ground.
~Doc, Link needs you now. Heâs east of my position. Realta, pull back and start healing Oscar and Andre,~ Uncle Ryan links us and the Doc through me.
Virgil and Jason plow through the line, Kenna right beside them. That girl is amazing.
She takes on three in a row like itâs nothing. Virgil and Jason are machines as they drop one after another after another.
Realta turns her palms orange and six wolves catch fire and flee. Freya holds her palms up and the four wolves in front of her collapse.
~Get that witch. Sheâs blind from behind,~ Alpha Grey links to no one in particular.
~Geoff theyâre targeting Freya. Watch her back,~ I warn. Freya only has so much she can do at once, but that gift Realta gave her is pretty impressive.
~I canât keep my powers going I have to shift and fight,~ Freya calls out.
~Wait to shift until youâre not surrounded,~ Uncle tells her while she fights in her human form with advanced skill.
Alpha Grey chuckles through his link. ~That witch is over powered, send in the third wave.~ I canât see the slimy bastard anywhere.
But looking all around us, his side is losing and losing fast.
~Heâs sending in the third wave, ~I alert Kenneth, Virgil and Uncle Ryan. Kenneth howls and his group charges in, picking groups apart so battles are more one on one, but at this point, we have more.
~Alpha, help!~ June calls out. There are four that came after her out of nowhere.
Spencer is right there and rushes in pulling a wolf from her back. Uncle Ryan gets there just in time to pull a wolf from Spencerâs gut.
~Realta. Spencer is in bad shape.~
~Iâm not close enough.~
~Doc!~
~On my way. Clear me a path.~ Jason and Virgil answer his request and clear out the way.
~Hurry, Doc. Heâs fading!~
~Iâm on it.~ He baseball slides up to the injured wolf and begins healing instantly. He lets his power fade, but Spencer doesnât get up.
~Kenneth. You and your crew start pulling out the injured and get them to the tent. Starting with Spencer, ~Uncle Ryan orders and wolves start shifting.
The numbers of the Grey pack are dwindling, but Alpha Grey is still nowhere to be seen. ~Haley, where is the bastard?~ Uncle Ryan asks.
I focus on him and watch his movements to find him in a car on the hill with a set of binoculars.
~Youâve got to be fucking kidding me!~ I bite my lip, now is not the time to scold him for his language.
~Haley, link me to him.~
~Go.~
~You worthless bastard. You couldnât even fight yourself?~
~I donât know how youâre able to link me, but itâs irrelevant. Why should I fight when so many are willing to die for me.~
~Youâre a coward and a sorry excuse for an alpha.~
Fighting from the Grey side nearly stops as many submit or run away, no longer willing to die for nothing.
~Oh yeah, asshole. They heard you,~ I tell him. His car drives away and I growl along with several others.
~Haley, keep me linked to everyone.~
~Youâre good.~
~Listen to me now. I am Alpha Weston. Submit and live. Those that are injured, hang tight. Weâre coming to take care of you.~
There are a few that refuse to surrender so theyâre quickly disposed of by the nearest warriors. With the battle over and the sun now up, the woods are littered with bodies of dead and injured.
Dara, Realta, and Freya assist in healing the very worst injuries. Damn, I didnât know Freya could heal too.
âIt is a two-part gift. The power to destroy requires the power to heal to balance it. Realta blessed Freya because she was humble enough to understand that her gift is not to be taken lightly.â Dara explains, answering the question in my mind.
âDara, did you read my mind?â I ask bluntly.
Her laughter is like a bell. âNo, seer. I saw your face. You were looking over Freya in wonder. Please excuse me, I must get back to healing. She and your doctor are exhausted.â
Uncle Ryan asks the pack to start helping with bringing the wounded to the tents. Now I get why there are two. One for our pack and one for the intruders, keeping them separated.
Alpha Ramirez arrives at our pack with Natalie and Marlena. They immediately begin tending to the wounded. Alpha Redd, Luna Kya, and Mrs. Mason appear just behind Alpha Ramirez.
âItâs amazing how quickly a battle can be fought, but the aftermath takes so much longer,â Alpha Redd comments. âExcuse me. My mate needs me.â
I smile and give them both a nod of gratitude.
Uncle Ryan checks over the tents before finding me. âWe have a lot of prisoners to sort through. Realta and Kenneth will be joining me, but everything would go much faster with you.â
âThere are already four she-wolves from the camp that have found mates by just helping with the injured. Unfortunately, I canât just let them join my pack. Once the injured are healed, theyâll be put into the cells too.â
âWe have to start sorting them right away, we wonât have room otherwise.â
âWhere are we going?â I ask as I follow behind him.
âDown into the cells. Weâll start with the pups and go from there. The mates we can sort after theyâre healed.â
âNot all of the fighters were from the Grey pack. In fact, most of them are dead or ran.â
Uncle Ryan had Kenneth and his closest friends gather the remaining standing intruders into the cells. Itâs really crowded, but weâll be able to decide what to do with them pretty quickly. Logan and Hank bring the prisoners one by one.
Uncle Ryan asks where their family is. Most of the boys answer that their fathers are either in a cell or dead.
I look at each oneâs past and future. Then Uncle Ryan decides what to do with them. Most are sent to be with their mothers.
The others are returned to a cell until we speak to their fathers. We get through all the pups then call it a day. Iâm not looking forward to tomorrow after all the visions Iâve seen today.
I just know theyâre going to be even worse.
Alphas and Lunas Redd and Ramirez, the Masons, Dara, and Marlena stay the night to assist in any way they can. With so many healers, there are no severe injuries. Those with slight injuries are left to heal on their own.
