Chapter 81: Chapter 19

HALEY

Uncle Ryan leads us all to his office. I take a seat on the couch, and Realta sits beside me.

The alphas take the chairs and turn them toward me.

“Alpha Redd, I want to say thank you for killing Alpha Roberts in such a thoroughly brutal and painful manner,” I begin. “I know that’s not something very pleasant to be thankful for, but he was evil, and his death put an end to the torment of many.”

Realta places her yellow glowing palm to my forehead. I see her watching the fight.

“You couldn’t do that to him and bombard his memory?”

“It’s the same either way, and he’s a mated alpha,” she replies.

I roll my eyes and look back to the very confused alphas. “The reason I wanted to speak to you is because Realta released a memory of mine.”

“You’ve only seen part of it. There’s plenty more,” she interjects.

I hold back a growl at being interrupted again and continue speaking. “What I’ve seen has an important part that they need to know.” Realta sits back and crosses her legs. She waves her hand, allowing me to continue.

“As I was saying. In my memory, my sister and I were attacked by Alpha Roberts, but what he said is what I want to share with you.”

“I got this part,” Realta interrupts again. She places her yellow glowing palm to my forehead then finds the snippet of the memory, keeping the rest faded out. I almost want to thank her for not making me relive it.

She removes her hand then places her palms to the foreheads of the alphas.

They both growl, but Uncle Ryan gets to his feet and begins pacing. “That son of a bitch! I’ll kill him!” Now I’m confused, Alpha Roberts is already dead.

Alpha Redd gets control of himself then speaks to me. “Haley. You’ve shared some important information with us. May I ask for your permission to share what you know with two other alphas?”

I look up to Uncle Ryan in question. He gives me a nod.

“Yes, Alpha Redd, but if possible leave my name out of it.”

My mind clears, and I see myself in a room full of alphas. They’re arguing, and it’s completely chaotic. I see more, but everything turns white.

I blink back to the present and six pairs of eyes on me.

“Are you at least going to tell your uncle?” Realta challenges.

“I was planning to today, but thanks to you I had a freaking panic or anxiety attack or whatever that was… Goddess, this is such a mess.”

I look up to Uncle Ryan. “I’m sorry I never said anything sooner, but I’m pretty sure you already know. When I blank out, it’s because I’m having visions. I see the future and the past. I’m the vessel for the next Oracle.”

“Right now she’s still not in complete control. I’m going to be working with her,” Realta informs us.

I have yet to look away from Uncle Ryan. I can see his concern.

Alpha Redd opens the office door and retrieves a massive book from Virgil who gives me a wink before Alpha Redd closes the door. “I wondered why Virgil brought this. Ryan, you can return it whenever you’re finished.”

Uncle Ryan thumbs through the book. “Thank you, Declan.” I look at the book with curiosity.

“It’s about the Oracle. You can look through it as much as you want, just keep it in my office. Alpha Troy is very protective of his tomes.” Alpha Redd snickers at that.

“Okay, great meeting. Let’s go eat, I’m starving.” Realta gets to her feet and walks out of the office without even bothering to look back.

“I’m going to keep an eye on her,” Alpha Redd volunteers and follows after her.

Uncle Ryan takes the seat beside mine. “She showed me the whole memory that you remembered today. I’m sorry I wasn’t there for the two of you.”

“Uncle Ryan, you’ve always been here for us. You never gave up. We’re here now and safe. But more importantly, we’re loved. I’m sorry I couldn’t share what was going on with me sooner. You were right when you said it a long time ago. I was afraid.”

He pulls me into a hug. “You don’t need to be afraid. I’m with you. Whatever you need.”

Realta, Alpha Redd, and Virgil stay for dinner. Afterward, I bring Virgil up to my room, keeping the door open.

“I like it. It’s very you,” he comments on the décor.

“Glory decorated it.” I sit on my bed with my legs folded.

“Virgil. Are you sure you want to stay with me, knowing what I am?”

“You’re the same person. Nothing’s changed.” He sits on the bed beside me, leaning against my cushioned headboard. He pulls me to him, and I lay comfortably against his chest.

“You’ve gotten bigger. How big are you now?”

He softly laughs. “I’m six foot four, and about two-fifty.”

“You’re a freaking giant and still growing.”

He laughs again. “What are you, tiny?”

“Hey, I’m five foot five. I’m not that tiny,” I make sure to point out.

“You’re right. Luna Kya is tiny. She’s only five foot two and that’s with boots on.”

Glory knocks on my door. “Hey, come on in,” I call to her.

She slowly sits on the couch and pulls her feet up. “Am I bothering you at all?” Virgil and I both tell her no.

“Good. That Starlight Sister is pretty odd. I thought you guys would be better company.”

“Yeah, she’s…something else, that’s for sure,” Virgil agrees. He stays for another hour before Alpha Redd decides it’s time to go.

“I’ll see you in the morning. I’m going to go straight to bed when I get back.” Virgil kisses me sweetly. “Goodnight, my Moon Flower.”

“Goodnight.”

He nods to Glory, “Goodnight, Glory.” She waves, and he leaves.

I grab the pillow he was laying against and hug it to me. It smells so good.

“Glory. I think I’m in love. He’s so incredible.”

“Did he call you Moon Flower?” I nod with a smile plastered on my face.

“That’s so sweet. It’s too bad he’s not your mate. Well, I mean, I guess he could be, but…”

“No. I hope he’s not. Glory, I have to tell you something…”

We’re in the woods, and it’s so dark there’s no moon in the sky.

“Haley, do you think we got away? Is he following us?”

“I don’t know. We have to break from his pack, but I don’t know how to do it,” I tell her as we finally start to slow down.

“How did Daddy do it?” she whispers, and I can feel the sadness in her words.

“I don’t know. He waited until we were asleep.”

I look around, trying to see through the densely packed trees to the empty woods around us. Listening, I hear no sounds.

“Glory, I have no idea where we are.”

“Are we in another territory? If we are, we could get in trouble.” She’s shaking, but I know she’s trying to be strong.

“You are safe, little ones.” Glory and I both startle, but the voice is soft and sweet. “Have no fear. I am here to help you.”

“Who are you?” I timidly ask.

The darkness is pushed away by a soft white light with a blue glow, and a lovely, white-robed woman is standing in the center as if the light is coming from her. “I am here to guide you, my vessel. I will take you to a place where you will find safety. First, let me remove your tie to the monster so he cannot find you.”

The woman in white places her hands over our hearts one at a time. Warmth and compassion fill me up, and I have absolute trust in the beautiful woman. She gives us a soft smile, then takes hold of our hands and silently walks with us through the woods.

I look up at her delicate features every now and then.

We don’t walk for a very long time, or if we do, we don’t notice. The woods begin to thin. “I must leave you here. The morning sun rises soon and I must return. You will find the way, but first let your bodies rest.”

She guides us to the base of a tree and kneels beside us. She covers Glory’s eyes. “Sleep, my sweet little one.” Glory’s body relaxes and her head lays on my shoulder.

The woman looks to me. “My vessel. I have taken the memory of the monster from your sister. She will remember his evil but will not remember what happened. Her mind will connect the pieces in a way to keep her innocence.”

“Are you the Moon Goddess?” I quietly ask.

“Yes, my vessel. I have need of you. My vessels that came before turned their backs on me. They did not trust me. I see many trials in your future, but I see a strength within you that will help you overcome them. Your trials are necessary to unite my children. Please trust in me, my vessel, as I am trusting you.”

I swallow, then nod. The Goddess gives me a soft smile, then kisses my forehead. She puts her hand over my eyes. “Sleep now, my sweet little one.”

My vision clears and I’m back in the bedroom with Glory. Warm tears fall down my cheeks and I’m humbled by the love of the Moon Goddess. Glory wipes her eyes. “I saw. I saw how we escaped. The Moon Goddess saved us.”

“She did,” I agree as I wipe my eyes. “She saved us.”

“Why? Why would she do such a thing? We’re just regular pups.”

I sniff and shake my head. “No, we’re not. I’m the vessel for the Oracle. You’re the mother of the next line.”

She shakes her head. “I don’t understand.”

“Glory. My blackouts are visions. I see the future and the past. I see what is going to be and what can be changed. Since you are my twin sister, the next Oracle after me will come through you.” I try to be as clear as possible, but I’m not sure I would believe it if someone said the same thing to me.

“That really was the Moon Goddess,” she whispers.

I nod and reach my hand out for her. “Yes. We met the Goddess.” Glory hugs me and we sit on the bed thinking in silence.

When we do break the silence, we talk about our past and the possible future. She asks if I can tell her who her mate is and I giggle. “I’m not spoiling the surprise, but you have met him and it’s not Jason.”

“Damn. Jason is so hot.” I snort a laugh. “What about you? Have you seen your mate?”

“No,” I shake my head. “But when I do, I have to reject him. The Moon Goddess, the Starlight Sister, and the Oracle have all told me so.”

“Why? That’s awful.”

“I’m not sure why, but I have to trust them. I promised the Moon Goddess I would trust in her, and I need to keep that promise.”
