Chapter Fifteen │ Gone

Ryder's absence at school did affect me.

Only a little though.

For the most part, things were just as they were before he came. I even used his empty seat in all my classes to put my feet or backpack on.

Except something interesting happened when lunch rolled around.

Amber, Wes, and I were eating lunch together when a girl tapped me on the shoulder. I turned around not knowing what to expect, but then she held out her hand and gave me something.

A cupcake.

I smiled, knowing this was Ryder's doing, but this one was different from the others he had given me. The others had a delicious white icing with no decorations. This one had the same white icing, except on top rested a mini cupcake, with a cute heart sticking out of it. The girl also passed me a note. I thanked her before I opened it.

To my Cupcake. . .

Because they make you happy.

Love, your sugar daddy

I jump when I suddenly hear Amber's voice behind me, after she clearly read my note. "Damn. That boy is more whipped than the frosting on both of those cupcakes."

I laugh and put the note in my pocket. He is really sweet though. Why the hell am I not dating him again? Oh right, I'm with Sean. But he's got to step his game up a little, because as much as I hate to admit it. . .

Ryder's getting under my skin.

After school, Amber came over to my house for a sleepover. We just finished watching John Tucker Must Die, and we were now putting on She's The Man when she got up to use the bathroom. As she's doing her business─probably a number two to be honest because she's already been in there for a little while─I decide to text Ryder, who got my number from Amber. As a result of her giving it to him, I now have his own from when he texted me this morning.

Yes. Ryder is now sending me good morning texts.

Hi, I hope everything's okay at home. Just wanted to say thank you for the cupcake. It was the cutest most delicious thing I've ever tasted. ♥😍

I'm glad you liked it, Angel. There's no need to thank me though, I know that one day you'll be the cutest most delicious thing I've ever tasted too.

I immediately feel heat go through me. This boy is too smooth. That's the reason why I even stayed away from him in the beginning. Guys like that have usually had practise. Lots of it.

It takes me a few minutes to respond, seeing as I'm suddenly feeling ten degrees hotter while I imagine him saying that to me in his deep, husky, sexy─

Okay, hormones. That's enough.

Okay then, sugar daddy. How about we test that as soon as you come back?

Ha. I wasn't serious, I just had to tease him too.

A couple of minutes later, I'm getting a phone call. As soon as I answer it I hear a groan. "Emma, you're not supposed to encourage me," his voice is husky and rough, "you're supposed to call me a pervert and tell me to take my mind out of the gutter."

"I wanted to tease you," I laugh. At least he knew I was joking.

"It worked."

". . .well that was easy." But then again, most guys were.

"That's because you're irresistible."

"Nah. I just think it's because you're always horny."

"Once again. . . that's because you're irresistible."

"Oh please. You were probably already horny before I texted you," I snort.

"Correction. I got horny when you texted me," his voice keeps getting more and more sexy the longer we talk and I honestly can't handle it.

"Okay, this conversation is over."

"Really? 'Cause I'm trying to get you under─"

"You're a pervert and you need to get your mind out of the gutter," I say quickly before hanging up.

"Who the hell was that?" Amber finally comes strolling in the living room.

"Ryder," I say, biting my lip.

"Hmm, you guys are getting close aren't you?" She wiggles her eyebrows at me. "I'm glad you're finally getting a chunk of that. He's hot. Like I-hope-he-knocks-me-up-so-my-babies-can-look-like-him hot."

"Yeah he is," I laugh, "but I'm not really doing anything with him yet."

She gives me a look like why-the-hell-not?

"Well, because I'm trying to give Sean a shot. He's been my crush for months. I'm not gonna drop him just because some hot guy's suddenly giving me attention. We haven't even gone on a proper date yet. I'm not saying I'm choosing him over Ryder, but I do want to spend more time with him before I make a decision. Even if we don't work out, he's still my friend and I don't want to hurt him."

At this point, it was kind of hard to deny I had some feelings for Ryder. I mean. . . who wouldn't?

"I like Sean, so if you want to give him a shot that's okay. But I also just want to point out that if it was me, I would have been all over Ryder already, but I know how loyal you are, which is probably why you're still giving Sean a chance."

I nod. Ryder has been incredibly sweet, but he's still someone I've only met recently. And to be honest I still think there's something weird about him. You don't typically act like this around someone who was a stranger to you only a couple of weeks ago.

"Anyways enough of this, time to watch chick flicks!"

Hey, that kinda rhymes.

. . . God I'm lame.
