Chapter Twelve •  Making up

The next day at lunch, my relationship with Ryder is a little strained.

We still talked and laughed and he gave me his cupcake like usual, but there was something different about him. He was more reserved and less flirty.

When Amber said a joke and he barely managed a chuckle, I finally had enough.

"Is everything okay?" I murmur to him as Amber turns her attention on Link.

"I don't know, you tell me." His words were short and his tone had a deep gruff to it that wasn't all that friendly.

"Is this about yesterday?"

He averts his eyes away from me without answering, which is all the answer I need. "Spending time with you last night was probably the most fun I've had with someone in a long while."

"I practically run away from someone when I'm having a lot of fun with them, too."

"Okay, I get it, you're upset."

"No it's fine, I just─I thought you had fun yesterday."

"Did you not just hear me say that I had a lot of fun? Or am I talking to brick wall?"

"Then why'd you leave?" He looks exasperated.

"It wasn't you," I bite my lip, "how about I make it up to you?"

He raises an eyebrow at me and I wrinkle my nose at him. "Not like that, perv. I mean, how about we go out again tonight?"

His eyes light up. "Not as a date. Just as friends." He frowns, getting all mopey again.

"Like I'd ever say no to spending more time with you," he mutters.

"Great! Then it's settled. You choose where." I smile and I see him trying not to smile back, but like he can't help himself, one lifts his face.

"Good God. I just can't stay mad at you."

I smile again. "Then don't even try."

Now that school is over for the day, my plan was to go home and start getting ready for my night out with Ryder.

He, on the other hand, had a different plan.

As soon as I stepped out of school into freedom, this happened, "Come on, Angel. Let's go."

"Um, what?"

"You said you'd make it up to me. And you also said I could chose where we're going," he says casually, like ambushing me as soon as I walked outside was normal.

"Yes, but right now? Can't I go home and change?"

His eyes flicker slowly down my body and he licks his bottom lip. "Why? You look perfect."

"Says you."

"Just trust me, okay?" He holds out his hand and I take it, letting him lead me to his car. He intertwines our fingers together and I feel the warming tingle between us getting stronger the longer we hold on. His eyes flicker like he's trying hard to keep them open.

He opens the door for me and I hop in, letting go of his hand. Then, I send Wes a quick text letting him know that he'll be riding home without me.

As Ryder starts the car and we start driving, I grin at him. "You ready?'

An eyebrow raises at me. "For. . . ?"

"It's my turn to ask you questions now."

". . . how fun. . ."

"Oh, shut up. I don't care if you don't want to talk about yourself. That's the whole point of the game."

"It's not that I don't want to talk about myself, I'd just rather talk about you."

". . . if you're trying to flirt your way out of this, it's really not working."

"I'm not try─whatever, just ask me the questions."

"Tell me a secret about yourself."

"Easy. I'm a werewolf," he shrugs.

I pause. "You know what's not a part of the game? Lying."

"I'm not lying."

"Really. You're a werewolf." I stare at him blankly. He nods. "Then why doesn't your eyes change colors when you're angry? And why aren't you all controlling and hot-tempered?

. . .and why aren't you Italian?"

He raises an eyebrow at me. Again.

"I told you. I read books on Wattpad."

"What exactly is this Wattpad thing? It's an app right?"

"Only the love of my life."

His head snaps towards me for a second and I swear I hear him mumble in disbelief, "Oh my God. I'm jealous of an app."

He clears his throat. "Anyways, to answer your question, I don't do any of those things because I have self control. Plus, not every werewolf is Italian." He laughs when I frown. "Baby, if I were to flash eye colors around, don't you think more humans would know about my secret?"

"I can't believe I'm even listening to this right now. You don't want to answer the question? Fine. But don't lie about it."

He opens his mouth to speak, but I interrupt him. "Moving on. When's your birthday?"

"June 22nd."

"Do you believe in love at first sight?" I was definitely going to have to repeat some of the questions he asked me. Unlike him, I didn't plan anything before hand.

"Not until recently." I choose to ignore this.

"Okay," I stick my tongue out at him, "if you had to spend the night in a cold forest and could only have one of these things, which would you pick: a gun, a blanket, me, or s'mores?"

"S'mores, for sure."

"Why? That doesn't count as one of my questions, by the way."

"If you're wondering why I didn't choose you, it's because I'd rather you be curled up in your safe, warm bed, than out with me in a cold forest without food." Oh. Well, now I feel bad for choosing him in this scenario. I didn't chose the blanket because I knew Ryder could keep me warm. Everytime we touch I feel his warmth course through my veins. I didn't chose the gun because I don't even know how to use one, and the s'mores may sound great, but they're not very fulling anyway. I also chose him because, who wants to be trapped in a cold forest alone? I would go out of my mind and as selfish as it is, I'd rather somebody there with me.

"Oh. Now I feel bad." He laughs. "What do you like in a girl?"

"You." I try to laugh but the seriousness on his face prevents it from coming out. The corniness of the line should have put me off, but that was the thing about Ryder. His "lines" never seem like lines. It always sounds like he's being honest rather than just trying to woo me into sleeping with him.

"Well that's a pretty broad range of things. Wanna be more specific?"

"Beautiful, smart, funny, independent, strong, adorable. I could go on and on."

"Well," I preened, "go on then."

"Amazing, kind, se─" "Woah! I was just joking," I interrupt.

I smile at him. "That was sweet, but I think you're putting me on a pedestal that I don't deserve."

We lock eyes and now he's the one smiling.

"Says you."

Lol. You guys probably hate me.

Anyways to make it up to you, I've decided to tell you an embarrassing story about myself.

Before I start I just wanna say that I know absolutely no Spanish!

So,  a couple of days ago, I posted a picture of myself on Instagram (xellamorex) and this guy comments Linda on it. So my American self was like what?? Why is this guy commenting another girls name on my picture? So I reply to his comment and I'm like: Who's Linda? (I was just curious, I wasn't upset or anything.)

OH MY GOD! For those of you who don't know, Linda means cute/pretty in Spanish.

This guy called me cute/pretty in Spanish and I was like 'who's Linda?' I could freaking hit myself right now. I only found out a day later because I looked it up; I just had a feeling that he was probably speaking another language. Anyways, I deleted my comment because I felt stupid, but his comment is still there. He never replied.

Hope you guys had a good laugh over this. I deserve it.  Is there any embarrassing stories you guys want to share? I'll be happy to read them.
