Chapter 58
âFor Chris to treat his employees like that means heâs a good boss.â Bellaâs eyes flashed as she
pushed the wheelchair to the table. âNo wonder so many people like to work with you, Chris.â
There was a considerable distance between the wheelchair and the teapot. Her hand shook after she
picked it up with great difficulty, which resulted in the hot tea being spilled on Victoriaâs legs.
âHissss!â As the work clothes were thin, the hot liquid had almost burned Victoriaâs body. She gasped in
pain and beads of cold sweat broke out on her forehead almost instantaneously.
Her entire thigh was drenched, which meant that the contents of the teapot would have been poured on
her. Bella really knows how to make it an accident, huh.
Christian frowned slightly. His body had already left his seat, but when he saw that all of the tea had
landed on Victoriaâs body, he returned to his seat. He placed his hands on the table with clear irritability.
âIâm sorry. I didnât hold the teapot firmly.â Bella hurriedly placed the teapot on the table as guilt danced
in her reddish eyes. âDoes it hurt? Iâm sorry. I didnât mean for this to happen. If I had known, Iâd rather
be thirsty thanââ
âLooks like you donât have to work for a few days,â he interrupted with a cool voice and addressed
Victoria.
âT-Thank you, Mr. Thatcher,â Victoria softly apologized before she suppressed the pain with all her
might and glanced at the table. âM-May I h-have a cup?â
He moved across the table with a little more speed and responded coolly, âSure.â
âAre you thirsty? Let me help you.â Bella flushed with embarrassment as she diligently grabbed the
teapot.
Victoria grabbed a cup and resisted the urge to swing it at Bella. âIâm not.â
âYouâre not? Then, why are you asking for the cup?â Bella placed the teacup on the table again and
added with worry, âThe water was extremely hot, so I think you should be hurrying to the hospital.â
When Victoria heard Bellaâs pretentious concern, she smashed the cup on the floor and took a broken
piece to cut her clothes. After that, she grabbed both ends of the material and tore it open.
Tear!
Once the clothes were torn, it revealed Victoriaâs red thigh with dozens of blisters growing on it. The
blisters had criss-crossed with the scars on her thigh, which gave it a scary view.
If she didnât tear her clothes now, the blisters would stick to the material, after which she would suffer in
agony.
Christianâs gaze paused on those blisters and scars, which caused his fingers to stop tapping on the
table. For some reason, his hands started to tremble slightly.
âIâll pay for the teapot,â Victoria noted as she wiped the beads of cold sweat dripping down from her
forehead and headed out of the office with difficulty.
Her right leg had been injured before, but now that she was scalded by the hot tea, it would make her
walking even more impaired.
Her emaciated figure was reflected in his eyes. His brows, which were slightly frowned, had loosened,
but his eyes darkened even more.
âYouâre already injured, so going to the hospital will be inconvenient. Let me ask Chris to get someone
to send you.â Bella hurriedly pushed her wheelchair to stop Victoria by grabbing her arm.
The more sincere she felt, the more disgust Victoria felt. âYou donât have to be like thisâ¦â
Her gaze then fell on Christian as she swallowed the word âfakeâ in her throat. âI donât want to bother
you, Miss Spritz. Iâll call for a cab myself.â
âThereâs no trouble. It was my fault to start with. I should be asking someone to send you to the
hospital. Please donât be polite with me. I injured you, so if you reject me, Iâll feel even more guilt.â Bella
took out her phone on the pretext of calling someone.
Christian saw everything and lowered his eyes as it flashed darkly.
Pat!
At this moment, Charlotte had pushed the door open and noticed Victoriaâs hideous thighs. She then
covered her red lips in surprise. âWhat happened?â
âNotââ Victoria wanted to say that it was nothing, but when she saw that Bella was already on the
phone, she liked her dry lips and replied, âIâve been scalded, so Iâm heading to the hospital. Would you
be able to get someone to drive me to the hospital, Miss Charlotte?â
âLetâs go. Iâll get someone now.â Charlotte glanced at Bella as she slightly raised her eye before she
supported Veronica to leave the office.
Bella stared at the door in a daze for a while before she pushed the wheelchair to close the door.
She bit her lips and softly spoke, âJudging from Miss Charlotteâs gaze earlier, did she misinterpret
something?â
âIsnât it true?â Christian rose to his feet and placed one hand in the pocket of his pants with a half-smile.
Sarcasm was also reflected in his gaze.
âIt is true that I scalded Victoria.â She lowered her eyes with a guilty expression, but she still felt
aggrieved. âItâs inconvenient for me to sit in a wheelchair and pour myself tea, though. S-She should be
able to understand.â
He snorted and placed his fingers on the table before he repeatedly tapped it. âIf I remember correctly,
itâs been months since you last came to Delta Club.â
A confused Bella then asked, âHuh? Why are you mentioning this all of a sudden, Chris?â
âWhy have you been so diligent in the last two months?â Christian stopped his movement and sat down
before he enunciated the next words clearly. âNot to mention, youâd always arrive not too long after me.
It canât be a coincidence, right?â
She blinked and feigned innocence. âIf you didnât say it, I wouldnât have realized it. But it is a
coincidence.â
âIt may be a coincidence if itâs once or twice. Since itâs a regular occurrence, itâs incidental.â He stood
up and placed his hands on the table again as he stared at Bella. âBella, donât try me.â
The air in the office seemed to have dipped by a few degrees.
âChris, what are you implying? I donât seem to understand your words.â Bellaâs eyes flashed as she
gently asked.
Christian lowered his head to smoothen his slightly wrinkled suit. His hair shone in the sun, which made
it look shiny. âYou are a smart person, so donât make me say it loud and clear. Once you have passed
the threshold, itâs not a good thing for you.â
âAre you saying Iâm following you or asking someone to track you?â Bella sighed in resignation. âI just
wanted to talk to you about Lucasâ engagement next month. I heard that you are here, so I figured that I
should come over. Itâs not as complicated as you think it is.â
He sat down again as he coldly regarded her in the silence.
When their gaze met, there was a surge of emotions.
âIâm telling the truth. If you donât believe me, Chris, I canât do anything either.â She spread out her
hands as her brows and eyes reflected her frustration.
His lips twitched, but there was no smile as he said, âI donât like women who lie to me. Furthermoreââ
He raised his eyes to give her a cold glanceââthe Thatcher Family never lacks a suitable marriage
partner.â
âMy legs were injured because of you two years ago, though, Chris. If the Thatcher Family changes
your marriage partner, the news wonât be well-received. If some people decide to make use of the
media to blow the matter out of proportion, the share of the Thatcher Group would be affected too.â Her
lips had a shallow arc to it.
He snorted and placed his fingers on the table before he repeatedly tapped it. âIf I remember correctly,
itâs been months since you last came to Delta Club.â
