Chapter 147
Denise looked at the door with tears pooling in her eyes and she was about to go after Victoria when
Vincent gloomily called out, âIf you donât want to see your daughter have a relapse, you should stay in
the ward.â
âVince, you think itâs my fault too?â She wiped her tears with a handkerchief and asked painfully while
sobbing.
He turned away and did not look at her. His uninjured hand was tapping on the hospital bed, but the
hostility and irritation were obvious on his face.
When Victoria stepped out of the room, she saw Christian and Glen standing not far away from the
door. She coldly glanced at them before walking toward the stairs on the east of the hallway.
âWhy didnât you put on your shoes before coming out?â Christian walked to her side and pulled on her
arm. He looked disapprovingly at her bare feet.
She turned her head to the side and looked at him darkly before pushing his hands away roughly.
âMr. Thatcher is speaking to you. Why arenât you answering?â Glen saw Victoria and raised his voice at
her as he was reminded of his disapproval of her.
Victoria snickered and challenged him, âWhy does it matter to you if I answer to him? Who are you to
tell me to do things?â
âYouâYou brat!â He breathed heavily and had a hand over his heart. His face turned red as his
breathing quickened.
âHa!â She sneered. âI donât have a hypocritical father like you. Donât mistake me for your daughter!
Also, I suggest that you learn to control your emotions. If anything happens to you, thereâs no one here
to rescue you!â
As they argued, she did not once look at Christian, who was standing by her side. It was as if he was a
wall.
âYou! Youââ Glen stared gloomily at her as if he was getting out of breath.
Victoria snorted at him, turned around, and left.
âGo back and put on some shoes before you go out.â Christian frowned slightly as he walked past Glen
and stopped in front of her. Glen still had his hand on his heart, but his breathing had calmed down. He
looked between Christian and Victoria with unreadable eyes as he became deep in thought.
She looked up at Christian and tightened her fist and shot daggers at him. âWhat? Donât tell me that
you, Mr. Thatcher, fancies interfering with peopleâs choice in wearing shoes.â The pent-up anger and
grudge she had against him for the past two years boiled and shattered her sanity. Her voice
sharpened as she shrieked, âYou just want to see me in distress. You want to see me in pain. You wish
that I was in the depths of hell. Well, Iâm at my lowest now. Are you happy?â
âVictoria!â Her scathing expression was reflected in his eyes as complex feelings tugged at his heart. It
was pain, suffocation, and something else he could not pinpoint.
Victoria snickered loudly. âKeep your concern for the woman you love. I donât need it. Itâs a burden for
me. You donât need to warn or threaten me. Iâm a selfish, ruthless person. If you force me, Iâll just die. I
donât care about the others.â She coughed and did not look at him anymore before leaving with a
gloomy expression.
Looking at her skinny back, he lifted his right leg, but withdrew it back before it landed on the floor.
There was an unreadable look in his eyes.
âIâll bring Tori some shoes in a bit. Thank you for your concern, President Thatcher.â Teresa had caught
up with her and carefully told him, âTori just argued with Mom. So, sheâs not in her right mind. I hope
you can forgive her if she has disrespected you.â
Christian looked at Victoriaâs moving figure as his eyes sank and he unbuttoned his shirt. He gave
Teresa a nod. âOkay.â With that, he did not say anything else.
Teresa was not sure what he meant by that and her heart pounded, but she could not do or say
anything about it. She dipped her head and apologized to him before going back to the ward to get
Victoriaâs shoes and look for her.
âMr. Thatcher, about the matter I was talking about, have you made a decision?â Glen was back to his
old elegant self, but his face was still a little pale.
The Thatcher Family did not have intentions to have a project in Glogan. However, there was news that
they wanted to auction the land they received from the Coleman Family. Even though it was an auction,
the purchaser would have already been decided before the day itself; that was the reason Glen wanted
to look for Christian today to talk about this matter.
Christian glanced at him before telling him indifferently, âItâs no use for you to discuss this with me now.
The highest bidder gets the land. If you really want this land, just prepare more money. Thereâs no
need to come to me.â
Auctions were filled with uncertainties. So, it was hard to predict who would be the winner, especially
since that piece of land in Glogan was a valuable one. Many companies were eager and would be
trying their best to win the land. To outbid the rest of the companies during the auction, the Coleman
Group would have to give the highest price in the market, which was not a good thing for them.
âHaha.â Glen laughed curtly and insinuated, âChristian, youâve been in the workforce for a few years
now. Donât you know that the final purchaser has already been pre-decided by the auction house?â
âYes,â Christian answered without hesitation.novelxo.com fast update
At that, a genuine smile crossed Glenâs face. âThenââ
âItâs true that many other companies have that practice, but not the Thatcher Group,â Christian
interrupted him. He turned his head to look in the direction Victoria left as his slender fingers rapped
against his thigh and imperceptible irritation showed in his brows.
The smile on Glenâs face froze. The Thatcher Group had always appointed the Coleman Group as the
purchaser in secret for auctions both three and five years ago respectively. Christianâs answer was
merely dismissing him.
He tried to squeeze a smile. âYouâre funny, Christian.â
âI never joke about my work,â Christian answered and looked in the direction Victoria left once again.
âIâll take my leave now. Iâve got some matters to attend to.â With that, he left.
Glen hurriedly stepped forward to stop him from leaving.
âIs there something else, Mr. Coleman?â Christian raised an eyebrow.
Glen sighed and asked, âChristian, are you doing this because of the incident between Victoria and
Bella two years ago?â
Christian only looked at him and did not respond.
âIt was us that was in the wrong two years ago. I didnât educate her well. To express our apologies, the
Coleman Group has been giving up a lot of profits to Spritz Group over the years too. Iâve also cut off
ties with her as father and daughter. Iâm doing all I can to compensate Bella and I hope you donât
harbor hard feelings toward me or the other family members because of what Victoria did.â
Christian chuckled, but there was not an ounce of cheer in his eyes. Instead, it was pitch black that
could chill people to their bones.
Glenâs heart skipped a beat at his grim chuckle
