Chapter 4: Chapter Three!

My Player of a Best FriendWords: 21618

Adelynn’s POV

Okay, never mind. I take it back. It is possible to not have a crush on Mike. He’s such a frustrating person!

“Does this look nice?”

“No.” He instantly told me.

I let out a huff of breath and with the roll of my eyes, I walked back into the dressing room. So far, I tried on one, two, three, four, five. Five dresses and all of them I honestly thought looked nice on me but Mike shot me down right away.

I was in American Eagle trying to find some new clothes to buy and maybe a dress to wear for tonight’s party. There was one more dress left but I was going to save that for last since I liked it a lot. Instead, I put on a pair of blue jeans and a grey popover hoodie that was off the shoulder and had the word WAVE on it.

I turned around in the mirror to see if it looked good from the back. ‘Hmm, it makes my butt look good.’ I thought to myself. Of course, I didn’t need Mike’s approval to buy clothes but I wanted to see if he thought it was okay. I unlocked the door and stepped out of the fitting room.

“How about this?”

“No.” He replied for the hundredth time, not even looking up from his phone.

I felt myself get just a little annoyed at him. “You didn’t even look Mike.” I told him flatly.

At my words, he finally looked up from the screen of his phone. “Okay fine. It looks pretty nice. Just uh your shirt is slipping over your shoulders. Push it back up.”

I ignored him since that was how you’re supposed to wear the shirt. “Fine, ignore me then.” Mike grumbled. “Turn around.” I did as he told me.

“Find different pants.” He told me without hesitation. Okay, I was officially annoyed at him.

“Why? I like it and plus, it makes my butt look good.” I told him. Wait, did I just say what I said?

Yes you did dummy. My brain informed me.

“That’s why you shouldn’t wear it.” I heard Mike mumble. I was going to get annoyed at him because it was just pants but I thought again. I guess that couldn’t really blame him since I guess it was his overprotective brother side kicking in. “I’m going to get it anyway.” I told him.

I went back into the dressing room to try on the last dress I had chosen.

I really like it. It was a navy blue corset dress. It was pretty normal but what I liked about it was the back. The upper back part was made of lace and it was open in the middle. There was also button on top of the open back part and the dress came mid-thigh. Simply said, it was a cute dress.

My mind then wandered to Alex and how he came up to me and talked to me today. It was a nice dress that showed off my curves. I was glad I saved this dress for last. It looked so much better than the dresses that I tried on before. Maybe Alex will be at the party and I’ll get his attention. I decided to get the dress.

“Are you done yet?” I heard Mike yell from outside the doors.

“Yeah, hold on.” I fixed the bottom of my dress and walked out of the dressing room. When Mike looked up, his mouth opened a bit and I almost giggled at the sight. Wow, for once he seemed to have nothing to say. Instead, I saw him take me in since his eyes went up and down and then back up and down again.

“Take a picture. It’ll last longer.” I said teasingly, using his words when he sometimes caught me staring at him.

This seemed to snap him out of whatever he was in and I didn’t miss the slightly pink tinge that settled on his cheeks.

My insides were screaming in excitement and happiness when I saw that I, Adelynn Cole could make Mike Jones blush. Of course, my heart beat picked up like usual. It was times that I caught him staring at me or checking me out that made me think that maybe I had a chance with him but then I get reminded that it can only happen in my dreams. Why would he settle down for plain Addy?

“Uh, this dress looks bad on you.” He told me. For the hundredth time, I rolled my eyes. It was obvious that he was lying since his eyes were glued on the ground. His eyes always ended up on the floor when he was lying.

“Mike, you know you can’t lie to me.”

“Fine. I just don’t want you to wear that.”

“Why? I thought I looked good in this.” I said glumly that my best friend didn’t want me to look pretty.

When he saw my face, he sighed. “It’s not that you don’t look good. Just, don’t wear it.”

I thought about how when I came out of the dressing room, he literally looked his he got his breath taken away. I wanted to take Alex’s breath away too. I wanted to look pretty at least for one night.

No one had really seen me get dressed up before well, except for Mike. What if Alex was there at the party? I don’t want to be dressed in a sweater and jeans when other girls all wore dresses.

“I’m going to get it.” I told him sternly and walked back into the dressing room.

When I came out with the clothes that I wanted to buy, Mike was no longer there. I let out a loud audible sigh when I realized that I got him mad. It wasn’t really my fault though. I can wear whatever I want.

I walked out of the store with my new clothes in hand. I ended up getting the WAVE popover hoodie, two jean shorts, a pair of skinny blue jeans, a black high-waist short, three featherweight tank tops in white, pink and blue. I also got a cropped tank top that had the word FREE on it and a beige lace back boy tank. Oh yeah, the nice dress for the party tonight too.

When I went outside, I saw Mike sitting on the bench that was directly outside the store with a grumpy look on his face. He had his arms crossed and when he saw me walking towards him, his head turned the other way.

What a dramatic boy. I thought to myself. A smile formed on my face as I made a plan to get him to stop being mad at me. I went to the frozen yogurt place next door and got him one, actually I made it. I got the mango flavored one which was his favorite and put a whole bunch of sprinkles on it that you couldn’t see a speck of orange anymore.

What? Sprinkles are yummy. The rainbow ones.

Next, I added these things called Mochi which were these chewy things that Mike and I liked to eat. They had these things that I call crunchies but it was actually crushed Oreos. I topped it off with chocolate chips. I smiled as I made myself a yummy yummy yogurt. I paid for it and headed back to the bench.

I laughed at the sight in front of me. Mike looked so panicked and he was probably looking for me since he kept on turning his head around and looking everywhere. When his eyes landed on me, I saw his shoulders sag in relief and he made his way towards me with an angry expression.

Instead of saying sorry right away, I gave him a big hug first. I wanted to feel his arms around me and well, I knew he wouldn’t be as mad at me after getting one of Adelynn’s hugs. Haha, smart plan right?

He wrapped his strong arms around me instantly.

“You scared me. One second I saw you walking towards me, the other second you’re gone. And I’m sorry Adds.” He mumbled in my hair.

I didn’t need to ask him to know what he was apologizing for. That’s why we’re best friends. We understood each other. Guilt filled me when I realized that Mike thought that it was him that did something wrong. I was partially wrong too. I ignored what he was going to say when he was clearly just trying to protect me.

“I’m sorry too. It’s just that I want to look pretty. Just for tonight.” My voice was kind of muffled since I spoke into his chest but he heard me.

“You’re always pretty.” He told me.

“You only say that because you’re my best friend. Every other guy avoids me like the plague except you and Austen.”

I pulled back and he had a guilty expression on his face. Why? I have no idea.

A grin formed on my face and I handed him the frozen yogurt that was slowly melting. I handed him and spoon and I took a fork for myself. I was doing this thing called the Liam Payne Challenge which was to not use a spoon for a week. It was harder than I thought.

“I can’t believe you’re still doing the stupid spoon challenge.” Mike said with the shake of his head.

“Hey! It’s not stupid and it’s harder than you think it is.” I argued back.

“Yeah right. I hardly use spoons anyway.”

“Then do it with me.”

“I would love to.” Mike said with the wag of his eyebrows. I scrunched my nose when I realized that he took it the wrong way.

I laughed and playfully punched him on his chest. “Eww, you’re disgusting Mike!”

He put both of his hands on the area that I punched, feigning hurt. “Only you think it’s disgusting. And fine, I’ll do the spoon challenge.”

“If you fail, you will make those amazing fudge brownies and chocolate chip cookies that you can make for me and only me. Okay?”

“Deal, and if I succeed?”

I shrugged my shoulders. “I won’t annoy you for a week?”

“No, as much as I hate to admit it, it’s fun when you’re around. How about you wear baggy clothes for two weeks?”

“One week.” I argued.

“Fine.”

“Is this a deal we have? It starts tomorrow by the way.”

“Aww, I was going to make you lose right now.” I honestly told him since he was eating his frozen yogurt with a spoon.

“Deal.” We shook our hands and gave each other challenging eyes.

I smiled and I was sure that I was going to win. Mike thinks that this is way too easy. He’s underestimating the power of spoons and their uses. He doesn’t even realize how many times he uses a spoon each day.

We both sat back on the bench and ate our yogurt whilst joking around with each other. By the time we finished the delicious yogurt, there was a dab of yogurt on my nose and a dab on Mike’s cheek. Hehe, he looks so cute with it on his cheek.

I shook my head from the thoughts. I threw the yogurt away at the nearest garbage can which was actually a few feet away. There are a lot of garbage cans at the mall. We continued to walk through the mall after wiping both our faces clean. Well, to tell you the truth, I kind of made Mike wipe my face for me. I was feeling lazy and plus, he was the one that put the yogurt on my face first.

I was walking towards Aerie to get new underwear and a bathing suit. Summer was coming up soon.

When Mike was still following me, I stopped dead in my tracks making him crash into me. Gosh, did he ever look where he was going? Of course not. He was texting someone with a smirk on his face. Probably well, definitely one of the girls. I admit that I was a little jealous but I pushed it aside.

“Mike! You have to watch where you’re going.” I scolded him.

“Hehe, sorry Adds.” He told me sheepishly. I was rubbing my side since when Mike crashed into me, he elbowed my side and it kind of hurt.

“You okay? Did I hurt you?” Mike asked with concerned eyes when he noticed that he had hurt me. I shook my head but he didn’t believe me. Instead of a relieved look, a frown settled on his face.

“I’m okay, really.” He just gave me a look.

“Fine, it hurts a little but it’s just a little hit to the side, I think I’ll survive.”

He gave me a hesitant look but continued to walk along with me. When I got in front of Aerie, I turned around and to no surprise, Mike was still there.

“Mikee.” I called out. “Go somewhere else.”

He smirked, the frown no longer there. That shows his caring span for me. “I want to go in.”

I chuckled. “You pervert!” I pushed him in the opposite direction and still kept my hands on his back, guiding him away from the store. “I’ll text you when I’m done. Go somewhere else.”

“Fine,” He said, sniffing and faking hurt. “I’ll go since you don’t want to hang out with me anymore.” With that, he walked towards Hollister which was just a few stores away.

When he got as far as ten steps, he turned around, gave me a grin and mouthed, “Call me maybe.” He had his hand on the side of his head, modeling as the phone. I turned around with a smile and shook my head.

Last week, when I discovered the song “Call me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepson, I went through his stage where it was all I listened to. Mike heard it so many times, he even knew the lyrics.

I stepped inside my second favorite store, American Eagle being the first and began to shop freely as Mike wasn’t here to complain about every single thing I would choose to try on, buy or wear.

Half an hour later, I walked outside the store with my two more bags in hand while texting Mike that I was done.

While being distracted, I didn’t know that I was walking straight into a person until I actually crashed into him and he had shot his arms out to steady me. Why am I crashing into everyone today?

“Whoa, easy there.” A handsome guy said, his hands still on my hips even though I wasn’t falling anymore. I seem to have a thing for crashing into handsome guys. First Alex and now this guy.

“Well,” He started, eying me up and down. I tried to back up but his hands had a tight grip on my waist, stopping me from doing so.

“Uhh, can you let go?” I asked. My voice came out a little quieter than normal. I found it a bit weird for a stranger to have his hands on me despite his good looks.

He tilted his head causing some of his hair to fall near his green eyes. This made him look cute but he was still creepy nonetheless. “Sorry babe, I couldn’t hear you.” He leaned closer to me until I felt his breath on my neck.

“What is a hot girl like you shopping alone?” My eyes widened as he called me hot. I wasn’t hot. What is he trying to do? Embarrass me or something? This guy’s breath was still on my neck and he creeps me out. With all my strength, I pushed him back. “Get away from me.” I said in a louder and much stronger voice.

“Why? Don’t act like you don’t like me. Come here.” He held onto my arm tightly. What was his problem? My heartbeat started to beat faster as I was getting scared by this person.

“I said get away from me!” I shoved him as hard as I could but he only stumbled back a few steps. He looked at me with a smile. If he didn’t keep on putting his hands on me, I would’ve think that he was super cute and handsome but the fact that he did have his hands on me made this guy a creep!

“You’re feisty. I like that.”

His hand was about to grab my wrist again when some pulled me back into their arms. The scent that was too familiar filled my nose and I felt myself relax into his body. I heart beat slowed down as I wasn’t as scared anymore and I knew that Mike would protect me no matter what. It sped up though since I realized that Mike had his hands around my waist, hugging me from the back. I liked guys who did that.

“Get the hell away from my girl.” Mike said in a deadly tone. I did not miss the fact that Mike had called me his girl. Even though he was just saying this, it felt nice to hear it from him. My racing heart went up a few notches.

I turned my head to look at him and if looks could kill, the guy would’ve died a long time ago. Mike’s eyes were filled with anger and glared at the guy. The guy seemed intimidated by Mike. Not only was anger wafting off of Mike but Mike was about a good half foot taller than him since Mike was a tall six feet two inches. Mike also was clearly more muscular than the guy in front of me.

The guy put his hands up in surrender. “Calm down dude, I was only fooling around.”

“My girl’s not for anyone to fool around with. Get the hell out of my face before you don’t have one anymore.” Once again, my heartbeat sped up as he mentioned me as his girl. When the guy walked away, or speed walked away, Mike turned me around to look at me. He held me by my shoulders.

He looked at me with anger in his eyes but also wore a concerned look. “Did he hurt you? If he did, I swear I will ki-”

I interrupted him. “Mike, I’m okay. If I wasn’t okay, I would be crying right? You know how I’m a big crybaby.”

This seemed to calm him down a little. He smiled, “That I do. But really, did he hurt you?”

“No Mike, he was just a little creepy.”

“What did he do?”

“Well, I crashed into him since I was texting you, then he helped me not fall on the floor but he wouldn’t let go. He just left his hands on my waist. Then when I pushed him away, he goes like ‘feisty, I like that’ then tried to grab my arm but then you came. He just freaked me out but it’s nothing.”

The anger seemed to return back into his eyes and I regret that I told him what happened. “That isn’t nothing. That asshole.” He began to turn around and walk towards the direction where the guy walked in. I ran to catch up to him. “Mike! Calm down!” I tugged on his arms.

“He touched you.” He said angrily.

“Yes but-”

“There’s no excuse.” He said cutting me off.

“Mike, look at me.” I cupped his face with my hands and looked at him in the eyes. “Calm down. He didn’t do anything else. I promise. I’m okay, that’s all that matters. Okay?” Out of habit, I bit my lip since I was nervous. We stared into each other’s eyes for a while when Mike’s gaze finally softened. He led out a sigh and nodded.

“Now come on, I’m starving.” I let go of his face and walked forward. After five steps, I realized that Mike wasn’t by my side. I turned around and still see him standing there in a daze. “Mike, are you coming or what?” When he snapped out of his daze, he seemed so confused, I laughed. He then saw me, and smiled. Not smirked, smiled. It was the genuine ones that I loved.

Together, we walked along side, laughing and joking around like the good friends that we were.

We went to the T.G.I. Friday restaurant in the mall. Being the steak lovers that we both are, we ordered steak. When we were done with our meal, I ordered a vanilla bean cheesecake when Mike made comments about me being fat. I didn’t take it to heart though since we always joke around with each other like that and I knew he was going to steal a bite or two. When we were finally done being pigs, we had to make out way home since it was almost nine in the night and I needed to help him prepare for the party and get ready myself.

It was pretty chilly outside. I was a little cold even though I was wearing a long sleeved shirt. Mike was being a total sweetheart. He took off his hoodie and helped me put it over my head. I was big and baggy on me but really warm and comfortable. Not to mention that it smelled really good.

“Mike, aren’t you cold?” I asked since he only had his t-shirt on.

“I’m fine.”

“Don’t lie to me. I know you’re cold.”

He chuckled. “Then why did you ask me the question if you knew the answer?”

“I actually have no idea why. Here, you can have your hoodie back.” I slipped one arm off before he stopped me.

“It’s fine Adds. You get cold really easily. I don’t want you to get sick.”

I blushed. He was being so sweet. We were lucky that the bus stop was right in front of the mall and less than five minutes of waiting, the bus arrived.

Once again, Mike gave me half his headphones with One Direction music on. It was times like this that I liked most about Mike. He was being a complete sweetheart. I can’t help but feel a little sad that he will be forgetting about me tonight and will have fun with his other friends and girls. I’ll just appreciate the next few hours that I got left with him before the party starts.

While listening to Moments, my eyes started to feel heavy. I leaned my head against the bus window and closed my eyes as drowsiness started to take over. Just when I was about to fall asleep, I felt a hand gently pushing my head away from the window. I fell asleep listening to Moments with my head on Mike’s comfortable and broad shoulders.

My last thought was; this was my moment in time.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was a much longer chapter. I hoped you guys liked it, it's my favorite so far. Hehe, comment or vote if you enjoyed this chapter.

Haha, today at school, I was laughing so much. One of my teachers weren't in school so we got a substitute. We were watching the Phantom of the Opera and there were captions so my two friends were singing the songs and I was just laughing like crazy. It was like a Niall moment since Niall laughs at everything. He's so cute. If you don't know him, Niall's from One Direction. They're my favorite band. :D

Does anyone watch The Vampire Diaries? If you don't, you should since it's a really good show. Omg, this week's episode. ;o. If you watch Vampire Diaries, you'll know what I'm talking about. I was crying because Alarc was going to die and it was just so sad. :( Then Jeremy was like crying since everyone that comes into his life dies and Elena felt like it was her fault. And at the end, when Damon went inside where Alarc was, to keep him company before he dies. It was so sad but he didn't die at the end. I'm very excited for the next episode. :D

This was a long note. Oh yeah, the side is the song Moments by One Direction, since well, Adelynn, Adds or Addy was listening to it before she fell asleep. One last thing, my grandma taught me and my sister how to knit so we bought our own yarn and we're making mini blankets. My brother called my sister and I grandmas since we were sitting on the couch just knitting the other day. My cousin had this idea where we should make little boxes and then like put it together so it turns into a quilt. I like that idea. Hehe. Okay, I'm done talking. Thanks for reading this chapter!
