Chapter 17: Chapter Sixteen!

My Player of a Best FriendWords: 8876

Mike’s POV

“C’mon man! If you like her, just tell her already.” Austen yelled at me.

I didn’t say anything so Melly took this as a sign to butt in. “Yeah Mike. I thought you liked to be a man in the relationship. Stop being a girl and cowering away. Admit that you like her.”

I am not a coward.

“We all know how you feel about her, just admit it!”

I was getting slightly annoyed by now.

“Yeah!”

“Yeah Mike, just-”

“OKAY!” I finally burst. “I LIKE ADDS. I LIKE HER A LOT.”

Austen and Melly both look at me with wide eyes at my sudden outburst. They then turn to each other, talking through their eyes and high five each other. I blush because I just admit that I liked my best friend.

“Mission accomplish babe!” Melly says to Austen and then planting a kiss on his lips. What happens next is a very bad scene for little kids as Austen seem to get too into the kiss.

I make a loud cough. “Guys, let’s keep it PG.”

They both break apart with wide grins on their faces, staring in each other with lovey dovey eyes. If this was a cartoon, their eyes would probably be hearts. Austen then turns to me with a serious face. Uh oh. He doesn’t seem happy that I broke his and Melly’s make out session.

“Bro, you suck face with almost every girl that throws themselves at you during school. That’s a lot of girls and you obviously go over PG with them. Your frigging kissing scenes with them are like rated R. So excuse me if I kiss my beautiful girlfriend.”

Melly gives him a smile and leans into his chest with Austen’s arms around her.

“Chill. I’m not like that anymore. I promise.” I say.

Melly cocks her eyebrows and scoffs, giving me a ‘really’ look. I look at her back with confusion. I did stop playing girls. I haven’t got any in the past two weeks. That might not seem to be a lot but it is for me.

Melly looked away from me and grumbled. “And you say you like Addy.”

My expression was now an even more confused look.

Austen cut in. “Don’t look so clueless.” He narrowed his eyes at me and muttered to himself. “Stopped playing girls. What a lie.”

“What are you guys talking about?” I asked, not pretending to look clueless since I was actually clueless, if that made any sense to you.

“Cut it out Mike. You’re obviously lying since you have lipstick smudged on the corners of your mouth and on your jaw.” Melly said with a kind of angry expression on her face. Actually, it wasn’t kind of angry. It was just a plain, straight on, angry face. “I mean, you admit that you like Addy but you don’t have to lie about your recent girl toys. It’s okay to admit that you’re a sex crazed man.”

My eyes widened when my brain processed what they said to me. I wiped the back of my hand across my mouth and my jaw trying to get rid of the lipstick. “I am not sex crazed!”

“It’s still there. You’re smudging it.” Melly stated. “And you are. It’s okay to admit it though. I won’t judge you.”

“I’m not!” I yelled, trying so hard to defend myself.

“Fine, you aren’t one. You happy now?” She paused for a bit but then continued to speak. “Just to let you know, I’m only saying it because you want to hear me say it. I actually don’t believe you though. Fortunately for you, you have to prove it to Addy and not me. If you had to prove it to me, you would never pass my test. It doesn’t matter what I think though, if you like Addy, all that matters is how she looks at you as a person. And I know she doesn’t like sex crazed guys. And PLAYERS.” She emphasized the word player, saying it extra loud to indicate that it was a key word.

“I stopped being one.” I said whilst I got up to walk to the bathroom. After washing my face and getting rid of the stupid red lipstick that I found on the corners of my mouth, my jaw and even my neck, I sat back down on the couch.

“Okay look, I can explain the lipstick thing.”

Austen gave me a skeptical look but nodded his head to tell me to continue.

“So you guys were right before. I was jealous of Tyler-”

I got cut off mid sentence by Melly’s shout of joy. “I knew it!”

Austen kissed the side of her head and chuckled. “Calm down, let him continue.”

“I don’t know why he likes you Melly.” I tell my best friend, Melanie.

Austen shot me a look. A death glare I guess. “Don’t talk about my girlfriend like that. She’s perfect.” He said.

“Fine,” I mumble. “So, like I was saying before I got interrupted by a crazy lady,” I shot Melly a look. When she saw this, Melly threw her water bottle at me. It hit my left arm and dropped down on the couch. “Immature. Anyway, I was jealous of Tyler because Adds seem to laugh and giggle at every goddamn thing he says even though its rude comments like, ‘damn your legs are fine’ or something. But when I say that, she just tells me to shut up or slaps me. Then I remember before Ty went to college, Adds mentioned about a crush she had on him and I’m not sure if she still likes him or not. I got upset and then I thought, oh, I don’t wait for girls, girls wait for me. Since Heather was texting me, I decided to meet at her house and we were just in the pool. And don’t look at me like that. When a girl kisses you and you want to forget about another girl, you kiss her back. Except it didn’t work because I felt awful. It felt like I was cheating on Adds and that’s why I left and came here.”

We all sat in silence as both Melly and Austen took everything in. “I see. But still, why would you want to forget about Addy?” Melly questioned while leaning towards me with a look of suspicion on her face.

“Because,” I looked around the room feeling a little embarrassed. “I don’t want to be wallowing in self pity that Adds doesn’t like me back but likes my brother instead.”

I shouldn’t have said that because that just made Melly squeal and quickly run over to my side of the couch as quick as flash so she could pinch my cheeks. “Aren’t you a cutie?”

I backed up and jerked my face away. “Stop it.” I tried to fight the blush on my cheeks but there was no point.

“Aww!” Melly was leaning towards me again but fortunately, Austen stopped his crazy girlfriend from attacking me. Well, she’s my crazy best friend too.

“Okay Mike. Since you like Adds so much, just tell her. Do some romantic lovey stuff. Chicks dig that.” Austen suggested.

Melly’s head snapped towards him then to me. “No!”

Austen’s eyebrows creased. “Babe, you love romantic stuff. Do you?”

She nodded enthusiastically at this. “No, I mean yes I do like romantic stuff and so does Adds but don’t be romantic to Adds.”

Austen and I send her confused looks. What was this girl talking about? I don’t know if she ignored our looks or she just didn’t see but Melly continued. “Send her mixed signals and let her admit that she likes you first. I’ve been waiting all these years ever since I met you for Adds to like you. If she does, which I think she does, I want her to admit it so wait until she confesses then you can confess. Show her affection but then avoid her for a couple of days. She can’t stay away from you for long by herself. I mean, she can stay away from you with the help of Austen and I but without our help, I know she can’t take it and she will finally burst and confess. Yes! This is a perfect plan.” When Melly was done speaking like a chipmunk, she took in deep breaths and had some excited look on her face. Is she crazy or what?

Austen and I look her with an incredulous look. But then we both think about it and we start to plan because well, we shouldn’t be surprised. Melly always comes up with crazy stuff. I shouldn’t listen to her crazy plans but what choice did I have? To not be with Adds or to be with Adds? Of course the latter one.

This girl. She’s making me change. Usually, it’s girls going out of their way to get my attention and interest but now, I’m planning all these things to get attention from my best friend. Who would’ve known?
