And the crowd erupted in loud roars as Kevin makes the last shoot before the timer runs out, scoring as two extra points ahead of the seniors.
"Juniors! Juniors! Juniors!" I can hear the right side of the gym cheered, where my schoolmates where located.
I yelled in triumph with them, pumping my fist in the air. I was half expecting that we won't stand a chance against the seniors because they were ruthless and played dirty. One of our team mates, Justin, had to get benched due to minorly twisted his ankle because some dickhead senior bumped against him hard while trying to steal the ball.
Coach Ford pulled us into a tight group huddle before giving us a good pat on the back. "I knew you wouldn't disappoint me." He said proudly.
I snickerd a little, suppressing a grin. Yeah, because if we would have lose the game, he would be kicking our ass right now. I feel sorry for the seniors.
Eh, well not really. They deserved it.
There's a party happening later on at one of the guy's house for a celebration. I told them to go first without me and I will swing by around after I have dinner with my moms. The guys were still talking with Coach, but I decided to go ahead to the locker rooms to take a shower and change. People were congratulating me in the halls and I sent them a grateful smile and gave them an acknowledging nod.
I was about to turn left when I heard grunts and shuffling and mutters of colorful words from the girl's locker room. I don't want to seem like a pervert snooping around girls, but as I know there's was no one using it this time of the night and someone might need some help.
My eyes widened in a fraction when I saw the head of our school's mascot tumbling out of the entrance door. I slowly walked further to see what was going on, and curiosity did not kill the cat this time.
I was stunned. There's a cute girl coming out of the costume. Her wavy hair styled in a bun and her light brown skin flushed probably from moving around inside the costume and the heat. She was dressed decently, so I breathed easily.
How come I have never noticed her around school? Surely I must have seen her or ever walked passed by her.
Something in me wanted to say hi and really get to know her and possibly get her number, but I think that's pushing the limit. I don't want to scare her off, but I did anyway as soon as I opened my mouth and scared the crap out of her.
I suppressed a huge smile when she turned to face me, giving me the full view of her beauty. Honestly, she could pass for a goddess in my eyes.
"Hi, I'm sorry to startle you." I said sheepishly. "I just wanted to know if there was anything wrong since there was a lot of rustling and mutters."
She stared at me for a few seconds before quickly nodding her head. "I-It's fine."
I rushed to formulate something I could say to her to keep our conversation going. "I know that Jake needed a replacement, but I didn't know it was going to be you."
My eyes lowered to her joined hands, she was fidgeting with her fingers. I frowned a little. I think I was making her a little uncomfortable.
Of course you are, you dumbass! Who wouldn't be uncomfortable when some random guy came up to you out of nowhere?
Stupid fucking Dev.
"I didn't know I was gonna be doing this either." She said in soft, feminine voice. "Uhm, I-I need to go. Bye." She snatched her bag from the bench inside and pulled it to herself.
My eyes couldn't help but follow her every movement until she walked around me and disappeared into the hallway.
I sighed and lowered my head. I didn't even get to say goodbye to her because she was too quick to get away. Out of the corner of my eye, I see something glistening on the floor. I squinted my eyes to see it was a sliver chained locket. I grabbed it from the floor and opened to see a picture of the girl a while ago but was a few years younger and her parents were in it, too.
I smiled to myself, at least I get to have a reason to talk to her again. The only question is: who was she?

"Dude, you've been distracted for the entire day." My friend, Lucas, pointed out. "You look like you were contemplating life, staring into nothing like that."
It was the day after yesterday. I hadn't had a wink of sleep thinking about that girl by the lockers room. I was fumbling with her locket inside my pocket like it was some support system of mine.
I have officially gone crazy.
"There was this girl last night-" I began, but my sentence was cut off when my friend group suddenly burst into noises.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa." Ryan interjected.
"Who is it? It better not be Kylie from study block."
"For the last time, you can have her. We don't give a fuck."
"Was it at the game or at the party? Because I barely saw you after you left school."
"It was definitely after the game. He was so distracted last night."
"Aww, is our buddy a victim of love at first sight?"
I rolled my eyes at them and shoved Lucas by the arm. Ever since I transferred to this school last year, I have been stuck with these lunatics. And of course I say that with admiration.
"Really, love?" I said. "Can't it just be like or something?"
Ryan shrugged his shoulders as he bit into the cafeteria sandwich. My face contorts into a disgust expression. Their food is really disgusting here. I'm thankful every day that my mom is a chef and still packs me lunch, because the food here should be investigated by the FDA.
We exited the cafeteria when the bell rang and we stopped by our lockers first before heading to class. This semester, I was taking AP Chemistry rather than AP Physics.
When I stepped inside and looked around the room to find a place to sit. There were vacant seats here and there. But my tracks stopped when I see the person sitting over by the corner in the front.
It was her.
The girl from last night.
And there was an empty seat beside her.
