"You want one?" I offered Dev an Oreo as were waiting at the bus stop after school.

We had to do a reporting for Spanish class tomorrow. It was by pair and Dev was my partner. We had to do a report on Spanish speaking countries. We had finished preparing for that part. But Mr. Fernandez mentioned that if we wanted extra credits we could make a dessert from the country we were reporting about and share it to the class.

So, hence why I'm here with Dev at the bus stop because we're going to his house and make the dessert.

His mom was a chef, so he offered that we make it at his house because they most likely had all the ingredients at home already.

"Thanks." He grabbed one and ate it.

The bus arrived shortly and we sat together.

"Are your parents gonna be home?" I asked, resting my head against the window.

"Not until a few hours later, so you're stuck with me for the mean time." He joked.

The thought of us being alone brought a slight excitement to my guts. We have never spent a long time with just the two of us. Probably the longest we have spent solely alone was the car ride on the way to that party, and that was months ago.

"Oh, no..." I said with a fake worried tone. "I can't believe I have to deal with you alone for hours on end."

"Please, you love me." He replied back, taking the last of my Oreo and putting it in his mouth.

I stopped myself from staring and bumped my shoulder with his instead. "I like to object that statement." I joked.

The rest of the bus ride was spent by talking about what happened during the other classes we didn't have together. We got down on the stop and walked a few blocks before arriving at his house.

His house was a little bigger than mine was. It was a two-storey house like every other house in our city. There was a decent size gated front garden filled with flowers and different kinds of plants. The exterior was painted white with a black trim.

Dev opened the gate for me and let me walk in first. He led me to the front door then inserting his key to open. The door swinged open, showing the colorful interior inside mixed with different kinds of modern and vintage furniture.

"Come inside," Dev said, holding the door open for me.

I slowed down my steps when I stepped inside to look around his house. "You have a very beautiful home." I mumbled, spinning around once.

"Thanks. My moms would be happy to hear that," He chuckled. "They went to lengths in decorating it."

We went to the living to put down our bags before going to the kitchen. The kitchen was even more impressive. I noticed that most of their cooking equipment was probably the newest model considering his mom is a chef.

"Do you want anything to drink or eat?" Dev asked as he walked towards the fridge.

I sat on the kitchen stool. "Water would be fine, thanks."

"Oh, turns out Momma had already made the dough for the Picarones." His head popped out behind the fridge door and placed a huge glass bowl on the counter with a note on top. "Well that saves us a lot of time. I think that's ready to be shaped and fried."

I pursed my lips to hide my small frown. I thought that we would be spending some more time by making the dough and all that.

Oh, well...

Dev handed me a cold water bottle which I gladly accepted and muttered a thanks before drinking it.

"We should probably start on making those Picarones." I said, leaving my seat while pulling my hair up into a high ponytail. "Where's your pots, so we can start heating up the oil."

"They're over here." Dev pointed. "Just a heads up, I'm scared of frying food and I suck at it, too."

I laughed. "We're dead, then. I can't fry food that well, either. I must confess that I only tried cooking Picarones like...once."

"We'll just keep our phones close in case we need to call the fire department." He shrugged, trying to act totally chill.

"Let's hope that it won't get to that."

Dev and I took turns in shaping the dough and frying. There were a few small, minor oil splashes, but other than that, everything went pretty smoothly.

We finished cleaning up the kitchen and now we were sitting on the kitchen stools polishing our presentation for tomorrow and going through our lines.

"Have we put all the sources in the last part?" I questioned, looking over Dev's shoulder as he made some adjustments on our slides.

Mr. Fernandez, like every other teacher, will have their eye twitching and have a fit if someone ever forgets to give credit or cite sources on a paper or presentation. I mean, I know why it's important because of plagiarism and I certainly don't want to go to jail because of it, but there are instances after using all your energy and remaining braincells on a school task, there's instances you forget to put the sources.

"I haven't double checked it, yet." He answered. "After this little bit, I'll check it. Are you done with finalizing our parts for the presentation?"

I nodded. "We'll take parts discussing the different parts. I have it all written down and complete on Google Docs."

Finally finished with polishing our presentation, we had a little treat of Picarones like we didn't already eat a handful of it while we were cooking a while ago. At this point, we won't have enough to share with the entire class tomorrow.

"Is it bad that I kinda want to keep these all to myself?" Dev quipped while covering his mouth with his hand as he was still chewing. "I don't mind not getting the extra credit, this is enough for me."

"I think I can get along with that idea." I snickered before finishing the last of my food.

Catching me off guard, Dev suddenly leaned in and brushed his thumb gently on the side of my mouth. "You've got a little something there." He uttered in a low voice.

My breath got caught in my throat, my eyes widened like saucers from his unexpected actions. I was left a bit speechless and I can feel my cheeks starting to feel warm.

But he didn't stop there. He proceeded to lean in even further and cupped my cheek. My heart was thumping wildly against my rib cage as I also leaned in closer.

"Family, I'm home!" I heard someone from the front door screamed.
