Chapter 582
Though Alex was bruised, he seemed energetic.
âHow are your legs?â Vicky asked gently.
âFine. Iâm recovering.â
Vicky hesitated. âDid Tylerâ¦â
Alex knew what she was about to ask and said, âTyler is a sick sociopath. He said itâs too boring to
destroy my legs when Iâm injured, so he decided to cure my wounds first and have me watch as I
recover, before showing me true despair again.â
Being in constant despair was never the worst punishment, and Tyler knew it better than anyone. Vicky
herself was treated the same way.
âNurse, I will put the ointment on his wounds. You can go and rest,â Vicky said to the nurse.
The nurse nodded and turned to leave.
Vicky picked up the cotton tip and began to treat Alexâs wounds.
She was hardly as professional as the nurse, but Alex remained extremely quiet without a single word
of complaint. He simply stared at Vicky with full attention as though he was a completely different man.
âVicky,â he said abruptly. âHave Iâ¦caused you troubles once again?â
Vicky looked away but did not stop treating his wounds. âNo. IV
He smiled bitterly. âI know the answer to that, actually⦠Itâs like the time before. Had I not insisted on
taking you with me, Tyler wouldâve never misunderstood youâ¦â
âItâs in the past now.â
He studied the pale look on her face. âVicky, Tyler was willing to let me go⦠Did you make some kind
of trade with him again?â
âTrade?â She thought, reminded of the divorce agreement. âIs the divorce considered a trade-off?
Probably not, because itâs setting me free as well. I should feel relieved, but why does it feel like thereâs
a rock resting on my chest?â
âI didnât. Donât overthink it.â
Alex had grown up alongside Vicky and spotted her lie right away. âDid you threaten Tyler with
something again?â
Vicky looked up. âAgain? Have I threatened him in the past?â
Alexâs breath caught in his throat when he realized that he had said the wrong thing. âNo⦠You either
traded him or threatened him with something, or a vindictive man like
Tyler wouldâve never agreed to set me free. I know just how much he hates meâ¦â
Vicky kept her eyes trained on him. âWhy does he hate you?â
âMaybe itâs just in our genes⦠Heâs always resented me for
trying to take you away from this place.â Alex refused to meet her eyes. âI kidnapped Gloria this time,
so itâs only normal that he hates me.â
âIs that all?â
Alex was not the type of man who could lie and looked at every corner of the room but Vicky. âOf
course⦠Why else?â
Vicky stared at him. âAlex, you know that Iâve lost my memories of the past, but you are my childhood
friend, so I trust you. If you have to lie to me, I donât know who to trust from now on.â
He widened his eyes and opened his mouth to speak, before sighing a long breath. âVicky, itâs not that I
donât want to tell you.â Sorrow filled his eyes as he continued, âSome things are better left forgotten.â
Vicky had lost count of how many times she had heard those words. âIâll remember eventually. Instead
of having a mental breakdown from remembering everything all at once, Iâd rather be prepared.â
