Chapter 313
âWhen you ran off to Lovian, were you in this much of a rush as well?â the man questioned mockingly.
Vicky froze.
âYou didnât bother looking back when you ran, but you sure seem eager when you need him.â
She ignored his sarcasm and asked, âHave you gotten in touch with him, sir?â
âNo.â
âWhy not?â
âHe didnât answer.â
âHow many times did you call?â
âOnce.â
She took a deep breath. âSir, why didnât you call a few times? ft
âWhy should I? Do you think I have nothing better to do with my time?â the man retorted mercilessly.
âI donât mean that. I just think that maybe heâs in a meeting or missed the call by accident.â
âSo what? He was the one who didnât pick up.â
âBut you promised me last night that youâd get me out of here-â
âYour proposal last night was tempting,â he interjected, âbut I donât recall making you any promise.â
Her eyes widened in disbelief. âAre you going back on your word?â
âI remember mentioning that I donât do charity work, didnât I? If
âI remember,â she gritted out, âbut Iâve proved to you that I am worthy of your trust.â
âSo I fulfilled my end of my bargain to call Tyler. Our deal was completed at the point that I made a call
to him. Our deal doesnât consist of a part where he has to answer his phone.â
Vicky could not believe how sly he was and questioned sharply, âAre you toying with me?!â
The man chuckled sarcastically. âEven if I refuse to help you, do you really think that you have the
power to resist anything that I want to do to you?â
âIf thatâs the case, why did y-â
âMiss Shaw,â the man said. âDo you really think that you can be all righteous when you are taking
advantage of me?â
âWhat?â She was livid. âAm I taking advantage of you, or is it the other way around?â
âI spent a small fortune for you and you are mine for the week, yet you tricked me into working for you
with words.â
âAnd that makes you the victim?â Vicky questioned.
âOf course.â
Vicky believed that this was the most shameless man she had ever come across and shivered in
anger. âSo, you realized that you were taken advantage of and wanted to break the deal?â
âI am being taken advantage of,â he said emotionlessly. âBut, since Iâve made a promise, I wonât go
back on my word.â
He took out his phone and showed her the call history. âI assume that you remember Tylerâs number?â
The man made sure that the call to Tyler was the only record on his phone and continued, âI promised
to call him, which is why I waited even when he didnât pick up.â
The system would automatically end the call if no one answered, and Vicky checked the duration of the
call before realizing that the man waited until the call was automatically ended. Even so, she still felt
like she was tricked.
She stared into his eyes underneath the mask. âSo, you donât want to help me?â
âAs I said, your proposal last night was tempting. Though I feel like Iâm being taken advantage of, I can
still help.
Howeverâ¦â He captured her with his dark, brooding eyes.â Again, I want an even exchange.â
Vicky smiled bitterly. âI have nothing apart from myself to offer nowâ¦but I thought you think that itâs not
worth it?â
