Joseph took Kathy to race over to Benedictâs hospital room. A nurse blocked them in the doorway, and asked, âAre you relatives of the patient?â
Worriedly Kathy replied, âIâm Professor Watsonâs student.â
The nurse said coldly, âIf youâre not a family member, you canât visit.â
Josephâs expression didnât change. His gaze fell on the tightly shut door. He went over and pushed it open. The nurse wanted to stop him, but his aura of power was too strongâshe didnât dare. All she could do was to remind outsider, âYou canât interrupt the patientâs rest!â Then she hurried to report the incident to her superiors.
Inside the room, Benedict was looking lively, a book in his hands. âProfessor Watson!â Kathy exclaimed, rushing over with great concern.
He looked at them in surprise. âHow did you two come to be here?â
Softly she said, âWhen I couldnât reach you, I was so worried. I had to come.â Seeing him looking well, she felt such relief.
âI lost my phone in the accident, and I canât leave the hospital. My assistant is in the hospital as well,â he replied with a furrowed brow. Though heâd not been badly hurt, the doctor had insisted he remain in the hospital to be examined. He himself was a doctor, he was quite familiar with his own condition.
âProfessor, are you all right?â Kathy asked with concern.
âBy and large, yes.â
âThen...â Kathy looked at Joseph.
Benedict could see what she intended. âI want to return to City N as soon as possible. Go and help me finish all the formalities.â
Kathy responded, âIâll go now!â
In Benedictâs room, Joseph looked over his charts, and saw there was no reason for him to remain in hospital. Carefully he said, âProfessor, Iâd like to know the details of the accident.â
Benedict told him that the accident had happened three days ago. The bus heâd been on had crashed into a railing, and currently the cause was suspected to be the driverâs fault. All the passengers had entered the hospital. But he didnât know how they were doing, heâd not seen a single familiar face since being admitted. Heâd applied to leave, but been denied.
Once Benedict finished, Josephâs expression became quite dark. It didnât take him long to discover that they were intentionally keeping him from leaving the hospital. When Kathy tried to pursue the procedures that would allow him to be released, no one was willing to sign off on them.
When she returned, Joseph was standing in the driveway, with John beside him, reporting. Kathy hadnât yet drawn nearâshe intended to enter another room and look for the nurse from before. It was just she didnât quite recall what she looked like, so finding her was difficult.
That nurse, when handing her surgical tools, had worn a mask, but she remembered her voice. It had been steady, and even almost familiar. As she was racking her brain, Joseph came over. âThe nurse who handed you the tools is called Ella Bridges, and sheâs not here,â he told her.
âThen where is she?â
âSheâs been transferred to BV Cityâs hospital, and wonât be back for a short while.â
âSo can I still find her?â
âYes.â Joseph had already instructed people to go to BV City. It was just that Ellaâs identity was a bit strange.
âThank you,â said Kathy sincerely.
Joseph drew her close from behind and planted a tender kiss between her shoulders, saying honestly, âKathy, even if we find her, sheâs already been bribed.â He knew Kathy wanted to find Ella in the hopes that she could explain the whole incident, but the security footage had been tampered with.
That meant Ella did not wish Kathy well.
âI...â Sheâd thought of this too. But so long as there was even a scrap of hope, she couldnât let it go.
Dotingly Joseph held her from behind, looking at her and saying, âLater Iâll handle all the formalities for Benedict, and you two can go back together.â
Stubbornly Kathy said, âI want to go to BV City.â
âListen to me, Iâll handle this.â
âHow?â she asked, looking at him.
âIâll find Ella Bridges and make her help you get proof.â
âIâll go with you!â
âYou would be in danger. Listen to me.â His voice was firm. Yet Kathy scowled, saying nothing, and he sighed. He knew how persistent she could be.
âYou donât want to trouble me, is that it?â he asked more gently.
Kathy said nothing. She worried for him. Finally she said, âIâm bothering you again.â
âIâm happy to be bothered by youï¼Mrs Joseph.â He said the familiar name gently.
Kathyâs heart softened instantly. Hugging him, she murmured, âIf anything happens, you must tell me immediately. If thereâs really nothing we can do, Iâll accept the inevitable.â
âNo matter what it takes, I wonât let you be expelled.â It was a promise, and Kathy believed him.
That day, thanks to whatever Joseph did, many of the professors got to leave the hospital, and that evening they took a flight back to City N. Kathy sat beside Benedict, but her mind was elsewhere. âThinking about Joseph?â he asked with understanding. When she nodded, he said, âThe two of you shouldnât waste any more time. Remarry.â
Uneasily Kathy said, âWeâre not at that stage yet.â She didnât have much time, how could she marry Joseph? One day another woman would better fill the role of his wife.
Benedict asked, âHas the university president contacted you?â
Though sheâd gone through so much, the president was still dissatisfied with her. âYes, heâs given me a week to find evidence.â
He furrowed his brow. âHow much time have you got left?â
âFour days.â
He considered that, his gaze deep and dim. Ever since Kathy had come to their university, no day had passed without incident. He felt deeply for her.
After all, she worked closely with himâhe knew her temperament. âIâll do my best to help you.â
Returning to the university, Kathy went to her dorm. Zofia, upon finally seeing her, rushed over to hug her. âYouâre finally back.â
Kathyâs expression betrayed her contrition. âIâm sorry, Iâve been in a bad mood lately.â
âI understand, after what youâve gone through. I get it,â said Zofia, patting her on the shoulder. âWonât you go to Josephâs today?â
âHe... Heâs probably already in BV City.â He hadnât contacted her at all up to that point.
With concern Zofia asked, âHas he found anything out?â
Kathy shook her head. âIâm waiting for news.â She was so tiredâsheâd been running around like mad. She fell asleep as soon as she lay down, and Zofia, watching her, sighed. When Bertie messaged her, she mentioned Kathy out of habit.

But her brother was unhappy. Knowing Joseph and Kathy were back together, it had been a long time since heâd come by the school.
