âGrandfather, Iâm afraid that I canât.â
âI know that in the next 3 years you want to continue with a post-graduate degree. When you are finished with your studies, you will succeed all the businesses of the Booth group.â
Zack didnât allow Kathy to decline.
âRest assured, Bertie will assist you.â
Kathy pursed her lips. Bertie...
Once she walked grandfather back to his room, Kathy went down to the living room.
Bertie came back without her noticing and stood behind her which startled her.
âWhy are you so scared of me?â Bertie raised his eyebrows.
Kathy glared at him with disdain. âDonât bother me.â She wanted to be left alone.
âWhat did grandfather say to you?â Bertie sat down beside her.
Kathy pursed her lips and looked at Bertie who seemed to have keen insight into all matters.
When she thought about having to learn from Bertie how to run a business ... she felt truly repulsed!
âNone of your business.â
Bertie spoke for his own interests, âLet me guess. Did he say that you are to learn from me at the Booth Group? After all, grandfather intends to hand over the Booth group to you.â
Kathy was deep in her thoughts.
âYou canât refuse, can you? Or do you want to hand over the Booth Group to me submissively?â Bertie twitched his eyebrows.
âIn your dreams!â Kathy retorted instantly.
She pondered about her next three years of studying clinical medicine which had nothing to do with the business sector. If she canât become a doctor in the future, then what she will be studying for the next three years would be useless.
âI know what you are struggling with. Thatâs why you can hand over the Booth Group to me and then just take the annual dividends.â Bertie said.
Kathy was unfamiliar with Bertieâs capabilities.
He looked to be barely thirty years old and had earlier succeeded Marshall Group and Booth Group was only another portion of his portfolio.
Why did Zack trust him so much?
Kathy canât help but look at Bertie. This manâs steadfastness and maturity were unquestionable but, in her opinion, he lacked personality.
âFrom the way you are looking at me, I will feel that you have fallen for me,â Bertie smirked.
âIn your dreams, Iâm not blind.â
âGrandfatherâs time is limited and you had better think carefully. But then again, you no longer have any choice.â
Bertie laughed, âActually, do you want to consider divorcing Joseph and get married to me? Then I can help you manage the Booth Group properly.â
Kathy, â... Shameless.â She went back to her room thereafter.
Bertie narrowed his eyes sinisterly and went to look for Zack.
âGrandpa, I canât convince your granddaughter. She really likes Joseph.â
âShe canât remain together with Joseph. Bertie, even with unscrupulous means, you must get them to divorce.â Zack said angrily.
âGrandpa, what suggestions do you have?â
âThis Sunday is my birthday celebration. Spend the night with my granddaughter in the same room and Iâll get the reporters in on the next day!â
âBut what if Kathy refuses to?â
âYou just shut her up!â
Bertie laughed at the thought and found it exciting.
âGrandfather, since you donât accept Joseph, then why did you allow them to be married?â
âThere were too many incidents at the wedding. I originally thought that my granddaughter would be blissful being married to Joseph but I was wrong.
She would encounter countless dangers being with that man. My time is limited and I must make arrangements for my granddaughterâs future.â
Bertie frowned. Indeed Kathyâs status was awkward. She was also considered a member of the Hilton family. But the Joseph family and the Hilton family had long been in a conflict.
What happens in the future will also affect Kathy.
âI knew you since you were young. Bertie, I trust you and I can see that you like my granddaughter very much.â
âGrandpa, I do like her but she doesnât like me.â
This womanâs heart was cold as ice.
He felt that Joseph wasnât any better than him and he felt that he was more suitable for her.
âI suspect that Joseph knew about her identity before he married her. You must tell her this and not let her continue to be fooled by Joseph!â
At the hospital.
A day had passed when Edith woke up. Conor had been by her side all the time.
His tight frown eased when he saw her wake up.
âWhat happened to me?â Edith pressed onto her forehead with her palm and her body was aching all over.
âYou were stuck in the lift and were rescued last night.â
Edith frowned and her mind filled with hazy memories but she didnât dare to recall further.
She didnât want to recall the incident of her almost getting violated some years ago.
And yesterday, in that enclosure, she thought that the same incident might happen again.
She felt upset and frowned.
âIs she alright?â Edith asked.
âSheâs fine.â Conor knew that she was referring to Kathy.
âWhen can I be discharged from the hospital?â
She saw that she was still on the IV drip but she already felt fine.
âOnce the psychiatry department sends over the report, you may be discharged if there arenât issues.â
Edith nodded and frowned when she saw the fatigue on Conorâs face.
Was he here the entire night?
âGo home and rest. Iâll have the driver send me back later.â
âDo you think that Iâll agree to that?â Conorâs tone was stern.
At this moment, footsteps can be heard outside and Joseph knocked on the door and entered.
Edithâs eyes lit up as soon as she saw him.
âMr. Nicholson, I have some private matters to discuss with Edith.â
Conor left the room and closed the door with only Edith and Joseph inside the patientâs room.
âAre you here because you care about me?â Edith asked.
Joseph frowned and picked up the patientâs medical records next to her bed. Edith wasnât ill. She was traumatized when she was young and had left her with severe claustrophobia. She was easily triggered when she found herself enclosed in a tight space.
He knew her condition.
âI hope that you back out of the Booth Group research and development project.â Joseph went straight to the point.
âWhat?â Edith was stunned and didnât expect Joseph to say this.
But the research and development were at its final stages. Although there were some issues, she was confident that they would be resolved.
âBased on your current mental state, the Booth Group will not agree to let you complete this project,â Joseph said.
Now Bertie had already made arrangements for other R&D experts to take over.
âMy mental state is fine... hang on, Joseph, are you concerned for me?â Edith asked anxiously.
It had been ages since they chatted in such a calm manner.
âYes, grandfather doesnât wish for anything to happen to you,â Joseph said.

Mathew already heard about this incident and he knew that Joseph is at City N and instructed Joseph to take good care of Edith.
âGrandfather, so itâs grandfather.â Edith laughed sarcastically.
âDo not get involved with Booth Groupâs project, listen to me,â Joseph said sternly.
âHave you seen the report that I sent to you? I encountered some problems.â
Joseph frowned when he heard her.
âIâve said all that I needed to.â Joseph didnât reply and left quickly thereafter.
Edith frowned and couldnât understand why Joseph insisted on her to back out of the project.
But very soon she received a call from Bertie. Because of her medical condition, he had already arranged for other researchers to take over and all Edith needed to do was to have a proper handover.
As to the subsequent issues, the Booth Group had full control over the R&D project and was of no concern to Edith.
That meant that they wanted to totally undermine her as an investor.
âWhy? Iâm totally fine and can be discharged from the hospital today.â
Bertie said plainly, âYou harmed Kathy. Do you think that Old master Booth will agree to let you remain?â
Edithâs expression froze, Kathy... because of her again!
