719 The Future Is Unpredictable
âArianna has successfully moved into position, we have to move now,â Mimi whispered to Elijah who was scanning the area for his brother Ezra and still didnât catch a glimpse of him.
âI canât find Ezra and I donât know if thatâs a good or a bad sign,â Elijah said, feeling uneasy about the development.
âUneasy or not, we have to move now,â Mimi hastened him. She couldnât spend a minute here any longer. Most of the guests that had kept the brothers occupied were leaving and it was only a matter of time before one of them noticed Arianna was missing.
And then, Ezra wouldnât be the only one they have to deal with. Moreover, Arianna must be feeling lonely in the car boot where she was hidden â time passed slowly while you werenât having fun.
âFine, letâs go then,â Elijah took one last look at his surroundings before he was walking away with Mimi. It was evening and it wouldnât be long before darkness would fall, cloaking the earth with its shadows.
The both of them got to the lawn where the car was parked and just to be sure that Arianna was still there â and alive â Mimi knocked twice on the boot and when she got two knocks in response, her face lit up. It wouldnât be long now before the lovers are united.
âCome on, letâs go,â Elijah beckoned her, leaning on the door with one of the feet already on the driverâs side of the car as he was ready to go in.
âComing!â Mimi opened the door and was about to climb into the front seat with Elijah when a voice said from behind her.
âGoing somewhere, brother?â
.....
Mimi stiffened at once.
Shit, it was Ezra.
Why did he have to pop out from whenever he had been hiding at this time? They were so close to leaving. Honestly, Ezra reminded him of Swiper the fox from that animation she used to watch as a kid. He was so snoopy.
Her eyes instantly connected with Elijah who secretly signaled to her that he was in control. She had to calm down and act normal.
âHi brother,â Elijah said so cooly that Mimi was tempted to give him a thumbs up. If it wasnât for the fact that Ezra wasnât a trained member of the mafioso, he wouldnât even suspect a thing. Elijah was so good at acting, no wonder he was able to deceive Marcel and the rest of them.
âWhere to?â Ezra came to lean on the body of the car, giving Mimi a wink that made her raise a brow. She thought that she scared him with her pregnancy story. Was that not enough or did he come back for more?
âIâm driving Mimi home,â Was Elijahâs excuse.
âOh, is that so?â
Mimi couldnât tell whether it was suspicion she sensed in Ezraâs tone but he turned to her and said, âThe father of your child couldnât care to come and take his fiancée home?â
âWell, heâs a busy man, nor can he cross your householdâs threshold without one of your brothers planting a bullet in his head.â Mimi defended Victor having sensed the sarcasm in Ezraâs tone. She wrapped her arms around her chest and had her bitchy face on. Mimi could tolerate anything, but not when it involves Victor. She was highly protective of him.
âA Luciano then,â Ezra nodded his head, âWell sheath your claws, kitty, Iâm not here to attack or something. Iâll just tag along to make sure this is not a trap and your fiancé or any of his people isnât just trying to draw Elijah out, only to capture him. No offense, but the tension between both families isnât the best right now.â
Ezra had already opened the backseat and climbed inside before any of them could stop him. Left with no other option, Mimi had to sit with him to make sure he doesnât sense anything and as well, distract him .
Their plans just went downhill and they have no idea how to send Ezra away before he figured out what they were up to. They had to improvise in a limited time. Damn it!
There was nothing but silence as they drove on and Mimiâs only way of communicating with Elijah was through the rearview mirror. Even at that, they had to limit communication else Ezra notices their exchange.
âYou are suddenly quiet,â Ezra pointed out. He added immediately, facing her, âWait, is the pregnancy hormone at work? I have been with my brotherâs wives and they have these crazy mood swings.â
Mimi looked at him, âI didnât know that you thought of me as talkative, not to mention that you are strangely fascinated with my pregnancy?â
âWell, I like you,â Ezra confessed casually and Elijah almost ran into the car in front of him from the shock.
Unfortunately, the sudden brake tossed Arianna forward and she bumped into the side of the vehicle and yelped in pain.
âWhat was that?â Ezra heard it.
âWhat was what?â Mimi pretended to be ignorant.
Ezraâs brows furrowed as he said, âI thought I heard something, but it seems to be nothing, and little bro, perhaps if you listened less to our conversation and focused more on the road, you wouldnât drive us to our death!â He scolded Elijah.
âSorry,â Elijah apologized, focusing on the road, but his gaze communicated with Mimiâs through the mirror. That was a close one. They had to do something quick! But what?! All they had was a car with Arianna hiding in the boot and limited time.
âIâm engaged, Ezra,â Mimi told him, deciding to continue the conversation and keeping him distracted while Elijah does the brain work. Heâs the brilliant one, right?
âBeing engaged doesnât seal the deal until youâre officially married.â He claimed.
Mimi chuckled, âAre you saying that I should two time here, Mr. Ezra.â
âNo, Iâm saying that you should keep an open mind. After all, the future is quite unpredictable and anything could happen in a minute.â
âIâm pregnant.â Mimi reminded him.
âI donât mind.â
âWhat?â
âI think Iâm falling for you.â
