Chapter 88 Jonathan Woods To Reveal His Identity The conversation between the two older men went like this.
Dariel Randall, 79, said, âI know that woman back there. Sheâs the daughter of darling Annaâs wicked uncle, Kent Barton.â
Cash Cappell, 77, replied, âWe know that man too. Isnât he Julian Parksâs half-brother, Alexander Parks? Does he really think weâre isolated from the rest of the world? Even after living in the mountains for many years, we are still very much in touch. Iâve been watching the news every day.â
âThatâs right. Anna and that piece of trash from the Quigley family didnât even make the news when they were dating back then. We thought that our darling Anna was such an outstanding young woman that whoever fell for her would definitely dote on her. Regrettably, we didnât pay much attention to the affair. It turned out heâs a scumbag. A no good son-of-a-gun! Fortunately, they broke up in the end,â
said Dariel.
âWhy did Alexander come to the countryside to ask about Anna? Instead, did he come here for Joseph Quigley, that old geezer?â Cash wondered out loud.
Darielâs face darkened. âI have to call darling Anna and ask if she has been exposed unwittingly.â
âDonât you know how smart Anna is? If she was exposed, would she have come to our godforsaken countryside? Donât give yourself away by calling. We, old fogeys, should not cause trouble for her one way or another. Just stay put and keep your cool, for crying out loud. Anna will definitely call us when itâs convenient for her,â Cash grumbled.
âAll right,â Dariel stared at the phone and put it back into the cradle. Needless to say, he missed Anna terribly. Both carried their buckets and fishing rods back into the house.
At this moment, Joseph Quigley walked over joyfully. âHey, not bad. You two old farts caught a fish, after all.â âWeâre done fishing for the day. Go and arrange for the kitchen to cook the fish for us,â Dariel said.
Joseph laughed aloud. Then he carried the bucket and mumbled away as he looked for a servant to prepare the dish.
Dariel suddenly thought of something and said to Joseph knowingly, âIt has been chaotic here of late.
Those people will probably turn the entire Chanaea over looking for you. Make sure to stay put in the house and donât roam around town unnecessarily.â
âYou guys should stay put too.â Joseph laughed and tasked someone to cook the fish.
âSo be it. Iâll practice two more fist-fighting rounds every day,â Dariel muttered.
Cash broke into a hearty laughter. âMy time is even easier to pass. Iâll throw some clay to make a pot every day. Hahaha, Iâll make money and pass the time.â
Meanwhile, at Jadeborough.
Jonathan Woods was jet-lagged.
He could not sleep before midnight and finally fell asleep in the second half of the night.
Just as he was sound asleep, his cell phone rang like crazy.
It was Ben Chase, director of the Metropolis Hospital.
Ben greeted Jonathan politely and asked if he was used to his everyday life after returning to the country. Before the latter could reply, Ben apologized for calling due to an urgent matter.
It turned out that he had a critical case on hand. The hospitalâs expert team examined the patient but could not resolve the issue. Therefore, he decided to enlist Jonathanâs help.
Jonathan was angry to have been woken up from his hard-earned sleep. He shouted into the phone, âWhat if I didnât come back? Does that mean no one will care about those cases? Do all the patients have to die then?â
âJonathan, thatâs not what I meant. If you hadnât come back, we couldnât help it if we are unable to treat the patients. We wouldnât dare to trouble the elder Quigley either! It was a coincidence that youâve returned. I think sheâs not meant to die,â Ben replied politely.
He was 49 years old, two years younger than Jonathan.
The two men had met a few times before whenever Jonathan returned to visit the elder Quigley.
The elder Quigley had wanted Jonathan to take over the Metropolis Hospital and suggested that the latter meet with Ben.
After chatting for a while, Jonathanâs foul mood dissipated. âBen, I didnât mean to shout at you. Iâm jet-
lagged and just fell asleep,â he apologized, âI understand totally. I was too anxious and didnât notice the time,â Ben said.
Jonathan looked at the time on his wrist. It was already eleven in the morning.
He could not blame Ben for calling him.
âIâll come over and take a look later,â Jonathan said.
âAll right. Good.â Ben was relieved to hear that Jonathan would go over.
The latter was just in time for lunch after washing up.
Annalise smiled and asked, âAre you done sleeping, bro? Or are you filling your stomach first before going back to bed?â
âSigh, No more sleep for me. I have something to do at the hospital later. Are you busy?â Jonathan asked. âIâm not busy!â
âThatâs good. Ben said that there was a difficult case with a patient. You can come along to take a look,â Jonathan suggested.
âOkay.â
âIâll go take a look too,â Julian Parks said.
After lunch, the trio rushed to the Metropolis Hospital and went straight to Ben.
Ben had already prepared the test results.
Jonathan and Annalise reviewed the reports together and discussed the patientâs condition.
âThis is not an easy operation. Sheâs old and her bodyâs recovery ability is not good. She might die if the operation didnât go well,â said Jonathan.
âShe is old Madam Blake. Itâs best if she can be cured. Otherwise, it will affect the reputation of Metropolis Hospital Should we ask the elder Quigley to do it personally if all else fails?â Ben said awkwardly.
âThis matter is equally tricky and risky even if Master Quigley takes action personally. It will be best to reject the case if youâre afraid of affecting the hospitalâs reputation,â replied Jonathan. If it was difficult for him and Annalise to handle the case, it would be equally difficult for his mentor to take it.
This was because Annaliseâs medical skills were as good as her mentorâs. The only advantage that Master Quigley had over her was his practical experience over the years. Annalise might not have encountered as many unique situations.
âThe Blake family did express that as long as we treat the old lady with all our might, they would leave it to fate for the outcome,â Ben sighed.
The Blake family had already given their consent. The Metropolis Hospital was the best in Jadeborough. Its reputation would definitely plummet if it did not take on the case.
âIn that case, letâs accept it and arrange for surgery tomorrow,â said Jonathan.
âAll right. Will do,â Ben immediately agreed.
He was more at ease now that Jonathan had agreed to take the case. Ultimately, fate would take over;
if the old lady could not be cured, so be it.
âBy the way, can I arrange for others to observe and learn on the spot for tomorrowâs surgery?â asked Ben.
The elder Quigley had taught Ben many things since the latter transferred the hospital to him. The most important one was that doctors had to learn from each other and improve together. It was taboo to keep secrets.
Therefore, in the past ten years, Ben would arrange for other doctors with certain shortcomings to observe and learn whenever a doctor with better skills performed surgeries.
âNot too many, though. No more than five observers other than the surgical assistants,â Jonathan said.
âAll right,â Ben replied immediately.
âThis is Anna, who will join me in the operating theater tomorrow,â Jonathan said.
Ben nodded again.
Then Jonathan reminded Ben, âDonât let it slip in front of outsiders. Remember, Iâm Dr. Lawrence.â
Before Ben could respond, Jonathan changed his mind and said, âForget it. Letâs make it public. Please announce that Jonathan Woods will operate on old Madam Blake tomorrow at two in the afternoon.â
