Chapter 8 Samuel In Danger âGood. Very good. Annalise, find a lawyer to talk to me. I would like to see what kind of lawyer can chase me out of the house I have been living in my whole life. Please invite the reporters to come over too. Ask them to report on the news to show the public how my ungrateful niece, whom I raised, betrays me,â Kent said, infuriated.
âOkay. Iâll get a lawyer, and youâll get the reporters,â Annalise said while staring at Kent with interest.
âY-Youâ¦â Kent was so enraged by Annaliseâs arrogant attitude that he could barely utter a complete sentence. Bethany supported Kent and said to Annalise in a pleading tone, âAnna, please stop. Your Uncle Kent has heart disease and canât take any more stress.â
âLetâs complete the transfer of ownership the day after tomorrow. You all go find a new house and move out as soon as possible.â Annalise went upstairs after saying that.
A cold gleam flashed across Kentâs eyes as he watched Annalise walk up the stairs.
After Annalise disappeared up the stairs, Bethany asked Kent in a lowered voice, âHubby, what should we do now? Annalise is nothing like a country bumpkin who grew up in the countryside. Sheâs pretty smart!â
Kent said through gritted teeth, âInformation is too accessible in todayâs era. Even kids who grew up in villages are quite knowledgeable. I have underestimated her.â
A hint of malice flashed across Bethanyâs gaze. She lowered her voice even more as she suggested, âHubby, now that things have come to this, why donât we justâ¦â
Without finishing her sentence, Bethany made a gesture of slicing the throat.
Kent frowned as he heard that. âDo you think I have never thought of that? Heather had written in her will that in the event of Annaliseâs demise, all of the assets in Moonlight Group would be donated to South River Foundation.â
Bethany muttered, âI thought that only applies if she dies before 20 years old.â
âIf she dies between 20 and 50 years old, 90% of the assets in Moonlight Group will be donated to South River Foundation.â Kent was displeased at the thought of this.
Bethany replied, âHeather is indeed smart and calculating. Annalise has inherited her intelligence.
Otherwise, how could a kid raised in the countryside be that smart?â
Kent let out a long sigh before saying, âLuckily, I have a backup plan.â
âWhat is it?â Bethanyâs eyes widened.
Before Kent could explain his plan, his phone rang. It was a call from Samuel.
Noticing who the caller was, Kent shushed Bethany with a solemn expression on his face. Then, he put on a smile and answered the call. âHello, Old Mr. Parks. How can I help you?â
âMr. Barton, weâre going back to Jadeborough tomorrow. I must treat you all to a meal before leaving. I suggest we have dinner at Hamilton Hotel tonight. What do you think?â Samuel smiled.
âSure thing.â Kent readily accepted his invitation.
âIf you guys are free, you may come over here earlier. Weâre in the 1888 presidential suite of Hamilton Hotel,â Samuel said.
âOkay. Sure!â Kent replied fervently.
After hanging up the call, Bethany lifted her chin in the direction of the stairs. âAre we telling her about it?â
Abigail rolled her eyes. âWhy should we tell her? For her to steal my limelight?â
Bethany said, âBut if we donât tell her, what if Samuel asksâ¦â
Kent cut her off, âIf they ask about her, weâll tell them that she went out to meet her friends. Weâll explain that since she grew up in the countryside, she enjoys hanging out with those improper friends of hers.â
âYes. Thatâs right!â Abigail raised her chin, visibly satisfied with that explanation.
At four in the evening, Kent, Bethany, and Abigail reached the 1888 presidential suite in Hamilton Hotel.
Samuel sat on a couch in the living room of the presidential suite.
Alexander was sitting across from him, and they seemed to be having a discussion.
Samuel had a grim expression.
Meanwhile, Alexander fixed his gaze on Samuel with a look of anticipation.
âAlexander, marriage is not something to be taken lightly. Youâre a smart guy, and you know that Abigail from the Barton family is not a good egg,â said Samuel.
However, Alexander was stubborn. âActually, Grandpa, Iâve always hoped to gain your recognition.
Everything I did, including my hard work and effort, was to get your affirmation. I strived to get full marks in my exam. when I was young, and I successfully obtained four degrees after growing up. After entering Parks Group, I started as an ordinary employee. Iâm not afraid of hardships and being tired. I only hope you could look at me.â
Samuelâs heart ached after he heard that..
He felt even more sorry for Alexander when he saw that the latterâs eyes had reddened.
Alexander explained further, âGrandpa, I have had low self-esteem since I was young. I know my identity as an illegitimate child. Hence, no matter how much I want something, Iâll never fight for it with Julian if he wants it as well. But Grandpaâ¦â
He paused, raised his reddened eyes to stare at Samuel, and said, âIf I could, I would never choose to be an illegitimate child.â
Samuel was moved by his words.
He sighed and conceded, âIf you like Abigail, you may ask what she thinks when she comes later. A marriage will only last long if itâs consensual.â
âThank you, Grandpa!â Alexander thanked his grandfather immediately.
Suddenly, the door of one of the rooms swung open. Julian walked out and said in a low voice, âYou canât marry Abigail.â
Alexander chuckled. âDonât you think youâre being too unreasonable, Julian?â
Julian explained, âUs men of the Parks family are not allowed to marry indecent women.â
âMs. Barton didnât marry you merely because she believed the rumors and thought you were 52 years old. Donât tell me youâre so petty that youâre still upset about that?â said Alexander, smiling.
Julian said grimly, âShe snatched Annaliseâs boyfriend.â
Alexander raised his brows slightly. âDidnât Annalise snatch Abigailâs fiancé too? Does that mean Annalise is indecent, too?â
âOkay. Both of you, please stop arguing!â Samuel hated seeing his family members quarreling.
However, in the family, his sons and his nephews never got along with each other. Even his grandchildren couldnât stand each other.
Julian and Alexander fell silent in unison.
Julian fished out his phone and showed Samuel a photo he got from Annaliseâs phone.
âThis is absurd!â Samuel was infuriated upon seeing how Abigail exposed her shoulder and acted seductively in the photo.
All of a sudden, he began coughing incessantly. He couldnât stop coughing and had difficulty catching his breath.
âGrandpa!â Both Julian and Alexander were shocked.
Julian instantly patted Samuelâs back.
Slap harder! There is sputum stuck in his throat!â Alexander said.
Hearing that, Julian exerted more force on patting Samuelâs back.
âApply Heimlich maneuver!â Alexander suggested.
Julian had a grim expression as he said, âThat wonât work. Heimlich maneuver only works when thereâs a foreign object blocking his throat.â
Julian immediately called a number for help. âMy grandpa has sputum stuck in his throat. What should I do?â
Suddenly, the doorbell rang, and Alexander proceeded to open the door.
The members of the Barton family had arrived.
Alexanderâs eyes lit up before he pulled Abigail over. âMs. Barton, hurry! Sputum is stuck in my grandpaâs. throat. Please do something and save him!â
