Chapter 52 Defending His Wife Annaliseâs heart suddenly ached.
Then, she laughed heartlessly. âHaha, you donât have to be so good to me! Donât worry, Iâll definitely take good care of your grandpa.â
Annalise thought about it and felt that the reason why Julian was so good to her might be related to Samuel.
âI want to be good to you not because you helped grandpa, nor because youâre outstanding, but because youâre my wife!â Julian said.
He was moved by her because of what she said to Benjamin, during the first time he and Annalise met.
âEven a 52-year-old cripple is cleaner than you!â
He admired her decisive personality. When Annalise encountered betrayal, instead of crying, she just turned around and left.
No matter how sad or dejected, even if her emotions were getting out of control, she would make the right decisions rationally.
The disdainful look she gave Benjamin made Julain feel that Annaliseâs entire soul was clean.
Annalise despised men who cheated, and so did Julian!
âBut we areâ¦*
Before Annalise could say more, Julian placed his index finger on Annaliseâs lips. Julian looked at her gently and said in a bewitching voice, âAnnie, we can try to treat it as real. Perhaps, after interacting with each other for a long time, we will realize that we share the same values and our personalities match, and we get used to and like having each other around.â
Annalise felt the warmth of Julianâs finger. Listening to his words and seeing his eyes, her heart beat wildly again.
She immediately said, âLetâs go downstairs for a walk. Iâll go change first.â
She immediately took a T-shirt and a pair of jeans, quickly returning to the bedroom.
Julian looked at Annaliseâs fleeing back and smiled again.
Annalise went to change her clothes. Julian also pushed open a cabinet door and changed into a T-
shirt. When Annalise came out after changing her clothes, she felt that her look was too similar to Julianâs. âLetâs go. Iâll show you what grandpa planted,â Julian said.
âYour grandpa is growing vegetables?â Annaliseâs eyes were filled with surprise.
She grew up in the countryside and had deep feelings for the land and farming.
The concept of farming was close and endearing to her.
âYes,â Julian replied.
Annalise could not suppress his excitement. âLetâs have a look!â
The two of them went downstairs.
Julian introduced the building to Annalise. âThat building is where Tonyâs family of three lives. Over there, thereâs Albertâs family. Thatâs Christopher, and thatâs Cassandraâs⦠But they donât usually live here.â
When Annalise heard about Tonyâs family of three, her heart ached.
Every time she heard about Julianâs background, her heart ached a little. She didnât know if she felt sorry for herself or for Julian.
This time, she took Julianâs hand and squeezed it to comfort him.
Julianâs lips suddenly curled into a smile. She held Annaliseâs hand and introduced him all the way.
âGrandpa was rich since young. He didnât know how to grow vegetables growing up. However, grandmaâs family background was not good. After grandma married grandpa, she saw that there was a big courtyard at home, so she started to grow vegetables. My grandparents were very close. Grandpa watched his wife grow vegetables and helped her grow them.
âLater on, he too developed the habit of growing vegetables. Grandma has been gone for decades, but grandpaâs habit stuck regardless.â
Julian figured that perhaps that was Samuelâs way of remembering his wife.
As Julian spoke, the smile on his lips disappeared, and his tone turned a little heavy.
Feeling Annalise squeeze his hand again. Julian smiled and said, âThis entire vegetable garden is taken care of by grandpa alone. He usually doesnât let anyone help him unless he was out of town and didnât return home for a few days. Only then he would ask the servants at home to help water the plants.â
âThey look good. fertilized often?â Annalise asked.
âYeah,â Julian said. âThereâs a chicken farm over there. Chicken manure is used for fertilization.â
Annalise was shocked.
Her masters loved the countryside so much that they went to live as hermits there. Yet, none of them even grew their own vegetables, arranging for servants to buy from villagers instead.
However, the dignified head of Parks Group in Jadeborough actually planted vegetables himself.
âIs there anything you like to eat? We can pick them here and get the servants to cook them,â Julian said. Annalise immediately looked at the time. It was only about three in the afternoon. There was still time for her to pick vegetables and have servants take care of them. She was tempted to do so.
Seeing Annaliseâs bright eyes, Julian smiled. âPick the vegetables. Iâll go back and get a basket. We can make more vegetable dishes.â
âAlright!â Annalise could not suppress her excitement.
Annalise really had no resistance to such good-looking vegetables.
She looked around and saw all kinds of vegetables. There were tender long beans, verdant cucumbers, string peppers, chili peppers, and purple eggplants, and that lush green radishesâ¦
She thought of her greed and wondered what to do if she wanted to pick everything.
She couldnât control her hands at all.
She immediately began to pinch the cabbages. In just a short while, she picked up quite a handful.
âPfftâ¦â Suddenly, a mocking laugh was heard elsewhere.
Annalise straightened her back and looked over. She saw Abigail in a pink dress.
Annalise could not be bothered with Abigail. Just as she was about to bend down and continue picking the cabbage, Abigail mocked, âWell, well, well indeed! Even if you grew up in a village and had that reek of bumpkin all over you, you should still pretend in such an environment. Itâs fine if you embarrass yourself in Horington, but youâre now embarrassing yourself even in the capital. You shouldnât call yourself a Barton in the future. I, of the Barton family, canât afford to lose face like this.
âI think itâs better if you donât go to Old Mr. Parksâs birthday banquet. Itâs fine if you embarrass yourself in the garden, but please donât embarrass yourself in public.
âDo you have no money to buy clothes? Why are you dressed like a slob?
âDidnât Dad give you like 3000 dollars a month as pocket money? Did you save them to buy a coffin for yourself?â
âYes, for buying you one, that is!â Two voices were heard at the same time.
One voice was from Annalise, and the other voice was from Julian.
Julian looked at Abigail coldly. âDo you think our T-shirts or jeans are dirt?â
He had only gone to get a basket and Abigail already came over to look for trouble.
Devious people really wormed their way everywhere.
When Abigail saw that Julian was wearing the same T-shirt and jeans as Annalise, she felt angry and indignant.
Julian couldnât have possibly dressed shabbily after all.
That god-like man was originally her fiancé!
Now, Annalise had beaten her to it. She was so angry.
She really wanted to continue arguing with Annalise, but Julian was present, so she didnât dare to.
He could only say unhappily, âOh, Julian, I was just joking with Anna.â
âDonât get so chummy with me in the future. You repel me. And she doesnât have a sister like you. Now get lost!â Julian shouted directly.
âJulâ¦â
âI said get lost!â Julianâs aura was cold.
Abigail was furious. She stomped her feet, covered her mouth, and ran away feeling grieved.
