Luanâs POV
âYou ready?â Abe came in.
I looked at myself in the mirror.
âNoâ I muttered.
Abe sighed and closed the door behind him.
âYou didnât sleep last night, did you?â he said.
I slightly chuckled.
âNothing newâ I said as I fixed my tie.
Abe gave me a look.
âLivi wouldâve wanted to be here to cheer you onâ he suddenly said.
I turned to look at Abe.
âI knowâ I said and looked at myself again.
âI knowâ I said again.
Abe gave me a pat on the back.
âFinish up, Luan. Your coronation starts in 30â Abe said and left.
As soon as he was gone, my knees weakened.
I leaned on the wall for support as I fell to my knees.
I felt like my heart was being torn apart inside of my chest.
I shut my eyes tightly to stop the tears from falling but still failed.
It still hurt.
Liviana has been gone for so long yet it still hurts like it was only yesterday.
Itâs been more than 2 years since Liviana disappeared.
Since sheâ¦passed.
I had become nothing but an empty shell ever since.
I still hoped that one day sheâd just miraculously come back.
Come back to me.
To us.
I turned 21 yesterday.
Today is my coronation day.
The day that the throne of Lunar would be passed on to me.
It shouldâve been Liviana.
She was the rightful ruler of Lunar.
Not me.
We wouldâve led Lunar together.
But sheâs gone.
I screamed and sobbed as I punched the wall in frustration.
All I ever wanted was to be with her.
The throne didnât matter to me anymore.
I just wanted to be happy with my mate.
Thatâs all.
Was that too much to ask?
Was happiness with the person you love, too much to ask for?
âLuan!â
The room to my door burst open and Abe and Beau came in with guards.
âGet outâ I said in a low tone.
I heard someone sighed and was followed by footsteps and the closing of the door.
I weakly pushed myself up and saw myself in the mirror again.
I looked like crap.
I felt like crap.
My fist was bleeding and there were little stains of b***d in my clothes.
I sighed as I walked back to the walk in closet and changed.
I gathered the last of my energy left in me as I made my way out of the room.
As soon as I got out, I saw Abe and Beau waiting for me outside.
âLetâs get this over withâ I said.
Abe and Beau nodded.
We made our way through the hallways.
The hallways that I have been locking myself in since the passing of my mate.
The hallways I dreamed of walking with Liviana with.
Every corner felt empty now.
âYour majestyâ Benjamin, Abe and Beauâs father and my uncle suddenly appeared.
âYour father wants to see you before the coronation properâ he said.
I sighed and nodded.
I glanced at Abe and Beau and they simply nodded at me.
I went with Benjamin to where my father would be.
âCongratulations, your majesty. This is a very special day for you. You will finally be able to rule Lunarâ Benjamin congratulated.
It doesnât matter.
Iâm not happy.
Not without my mate.
This day isnât so special without Liviana by my side.
My queen.
âThank you, Benjaminâ I said.
âOf course, your father and I will always be by your side to help and guide you. You need not worryâ he said.
I almost chuckled.
Iâm sure âheld and guideâ actually means manipulate me.
No.
I need to be stronger than this.
Liviana might not be by my side anymore but I know that she wouldnât let Lunar be led by a weak king.
The last thing I can do for my mate is to lead Lunar properly.
To be a proper king.
One that Liviana can be proud of.
âOh I know, Benjamin. I knowâ I said with a fake chuckle.
I know that you and my father will never leave me alone.
I know that youâll both do anything and everything to get involved.
But I wonât let that happens so easily.
I refuse to disappoint Liviana any further.
I refuse to disappoint Lunar.
âWeâre here. Your father is inside waiting for youâ he said.
I nodded and Benjamin left.
I stood outside of the door for a few moments.
After this day, I swear to my life to be the king that Lunar deserves.
I took a deep breath and opened the door to where my father is.
I immediately saw him sitting on a chair as he turned to look at me.
âLuanâ he said as he looked at me.
âFatherâ I said.
âYou donât look like you sleptâ he pointed.
âI was a little excited for today, thatâs allâ I lied.
My father stood up and walked in front of me.
Then, he started âfixingâ my collar.
âYou know, son, after this day, you will finally be Lunarâs new kingâ he started.
âThe ruler of a whole territoryâ he said.
âThe man that every wolf will fearâ he continued.
âThe one who everyone shall bow toâ he said and looked at me in the eye.
âSo pull yourself together will you?â he said and held me by the collar.
I just looked at him.
âSo you lost your mate. Now, stop acting like a depressed teenager who got dumpedâ he hissed at me.
I looked at him in disbelief.
âI lost your mother too, didnât I? Did you see me act the way you did? Did you?â he said holding my collar tightly.
âItâs been more than 2 years since that mate of yours passed away. Sheâs not coming back to life anytime soon. Get that in your headâ he said and aggressively let go of my collar.
I looked at him with a glare.
Of course I knew that.
But it will never be easy.
To forget someone like Liviana is as hard as forgetting how to breathe.
She became my life.
The reason for me to live.
And now, sheâs gone.
âSheâs never much to begin with anyway. She wouldnât have made an excellent queen. You were better off without herâ he said.
I saw red.
I held my father by the collar.
âDonât you dare say talk sht about my mate! You never knew her like we did! You never knew her like I did! You will never know how it feels to lose someone like Liviana!â I growled.
âShe was an amazing leader. She was kind, selfless, loving and loyal. She was an even better leader than both of us combined. She would have made an amazing queen if she hadnât passedâ I hissed at him.
âShe deserves this throne more than I do. She was supposed to be the one next for the throne. Not me! Sheâs the heiress of the Alaric family. This throne is supposed to be hers. Not oursâ I said in anger.
My father only gave me a serious look.
There was no trace of surprise in his face.
âSo you knew who she actually wasâ he said.
I looked at him confused.
âAnd you were still head over heels for that woman. How naive of you. I didnât think Iâd be raising an i***tâ he said with a chuckle of disbelief.
My eyebrows furrowed.
âDid you know?â I asked confused.
He only looked at me.
Then, he pushed and I let go of him.
âYou better get your priorities straight, young man. Youâre going to be ruling a whole territory by tomorrowâ he said casually as he fixed his time.
âYou no longer have time to mournâ he said as he looked at me.
âDo your job rightâ he said and walked passed me and out of the room.
I stood there confused.
He knew.
All this time, he knew.
My father knew who Liviana actually was.
But how?
Since when?
Why didnât I know?
Then, the door opened again.
âLuan, itâs timeâ Beau came in.
I closed my eyes tightly in frustration.
âYou okay?â he asked.
I shook my head.
âNoâ I said and turned to look at him.
âBut I donât have a choice but to pretend to be okay, do I?â I said.
I saw the worry in his eyes.
I sighed and walked out of the room.
âLetâs goâ I said.
Abe, Beau and I made our way to to where the coronation will be held.
âDid anything happen?â Abe asked.
I shook my head.
âNothingâ I lied.
I just found out something that I shouldâve known a long time ago, thatâs all.
âIt doesnât seem like nothingâ Beau said.
âJust stay out of itâ I told them.
They both sighed.
We arrived at the entrance.
Abe and Beau stood behind me.
They will be my right hand in leading Lunar from tomorrow onwards.
âWeâre in this with you, Luanâ Abe said.
âWeâll support you till the end no matter whatâ Beau added.
I turned to look at them.
âThank youâ I said.
They smiled and gave me a pat.
Then, the doors opened and I turned back from them again.
âHis Majesty, Prince Luan Grey of Lunar!â
I was welcomed by cheers and claps.
I made my way to the front.
There were a lot of people inside but one group caught my eye.
El, Edmond, Dante, Theresa and Ellie.
They were here.
They were here to see me.
They gave me a smile and Ellie waved at me.
I slightly smiled.
I got to the front.
There were many people watching.
But I still wished to see one.
My mate.
Liviana.
She was the one who I wanted to be here so badly.
But she canât.
I still held my head high in front of everyone.
I kept a mask on.
âWith the power vested in me, I now crown his majesty, Luan Grey as the new king of Lunarâ the man said and placed the crown on my head.
My eyes landed on my father as he looked at me.
Then and there, I vowed to be the best king I could be to Lunar.
Unlike him.
âHis Highness, King Luan Grey of Lunarâ
