❀Courtney's P.O.V❀

"We're here to see Mary Anne Johnson; our mother." Alexandra tells the receptionist, pointing towards Alex. "We already know where she is, we just wanted to inform you."

She nods her head as she types into the computer, "Alright, go on ahead."

We all smile at her, doing as told as I follow the twins into the elevator and up into her room.

We stop by the doorway as the nurse inside approaches us, "She just woke up, I'll be back in a few minutes to give her, her treatment."

"Sounds good, we just came to talk to her so we won't be too long." Alex informs her, grabbing my hand and pulling me deeper into the room.

Mary turns her head in our direction and instantly grins widely when she spots me, one in which I return nervously. "You must be Courtney, oh you really are beautiful."

I immediately feel my face heat up as I look down, "Thank you, Mary."

"No, thank you for not calling me by my last name." She laughs, "I was ready to correct you."

"They kind of warned me not to call you by your last name on the ride here." I explain, pointing at both Alex and Alexa beside me.

"My sweet children, come here. Give your mother a hug."

They both happily oblige, walking up to her and leaning down to hug her. She kisses their cheeks and I smile, admiring the happy family in front of me.

"Your father was here not too long ago," She sighs, rolling her eyes. "He asked for forgiveness again, but I pretended to fall asleep until he left."

"Mom, you promised we wouldn't talk about him while we brought her here." Alex kindly reminds her, standing up straight again to look back at me. "Courtney—my very first girlfriend."

My eyes widen and my jaw drops, as well as Alexa's and Mary's. On the other hand, Alex is grinning like a small child who just walked into a toy store.

"First?" I question softly, completely stunned.

He nods his head, grabbing my hand and pulling me to him. "You're the first girl I want to have a committed relationship with." He tells me, brushing my hair away from my face and leaving a kiss on my forehead.

"That's cute," Mary speaks up, "But I want to know how you asked her out. Was it romantic? Please tell me you at least gave her a flower, Alexander."

"I- uh, no..."

Her lips go into a straight line when she sees him cower behind me, embarrassed.

"How exactly did you ask her out, Alex?" Alexandra decides to ask with an arched eyebrow.

"Umm...by...I can't say."

When they both turn to look at me expectantly, I duck behind Alex and push him forward. He stumbles a little before he straightens up and rubs the back of his neck awkwardly.

"During sex..." He finally mumbles, and I gasp in shock as I quickly stand up again and smack the back of his head.

"Alex, what the hell."

"Ow." He whines, glaring at me.

"Ew, I did not need to know that!" Alexa scowls, shaking her head as she closes her eyes.

"You asked, smart ass." Alex scoffs.

"Respect your sister, mister." Mary scolds him, her face pale and her features showing disgust. "I will not allow my son to have a girlfriend whom he asked out while giving her an intimate massage."

"Why did you tell them that?" I ask, not being able to look at either one of them in the face.

"They asked."

"You could've made something up, I would've followed along!"

"Courtney, sweetie, it's alright. Nothing to be embarrassed about, I understand it happens. You two are young and teen years is the stage where your hormones are all over the place. I just want you two to break up and for him to ask you out properly."

"But, mom–"

"No, Alex, listen to me and just do as I say."

"Fine." He sighs.

"Can I do it? Yeah, I will." I say, turning to look at him in the eye. "Alex, we should break up." I start, grabbing his shoulder and giving it a gentle pat. "It's not me, it's you."

He frowns, "I've never had to deal with a breakup before, but I know that that's not how it goes."

"It's okay, people do it differently."

I kiss his cheek gently and he groans, pushing me away softly as I laugh.

"I'm glad you find amusement in this." He scowls.

"Aw, he's mad." Alexa teases, walking up to him and poking his cheek as he pouts.

"I just got dumped by my first girlfriend, it doesn't feel very nice, you know?"

"I've been dumped several times, trust me, you get used to it after the sixth time."

"Sixth? I don't even want to experience it a second time." He frowns, looking at me with his big brown eyes. "You won't break up with me again, right?"

I pinch his cheek, "No, this was just a one-time thing."

"Okay, good."

"If he isn't sweet and romantic the second time around, come see me and tell me. I will be sure the third time's a charm." Mary warns, her blue eyes shining with mischief.

"And I will be sure your ideas don't become reality." Alex laughs, going up to her to kiss the top of her head. "I love you, mom."

"I love you too, my dear son."

"It's time for your treatment, Mary. Kids, visiting hours are over, please come back tomorrow." The nurse speaks up as she walks in.

I am the first to walk out as they say goodbye to each other, coming out a few moments later before we go outside and into the truck.

"I wish I could un-hear that, but unfortunately I never will." Alexa muses, leaning forward with her hands pressed against the glove compartment to laugh at our flushed faces from up close.

"I will press down on the gas pedal if you don't sit down."

She instantly takes Alex's threat seriously as she sits back and puts on her seatbelt. I laugh as he begins to drive, watching him focus intently on the road with the tips of his ears bright red.

"My third boyfriend asked me out the same way, but we were having rough sex so it was kind of weird to say yes without screaming."

Alex swerves the car to the right and I cry out in horror when the car driving towards us honks at us, before Alex composes himself and fixes his truck on the proper lane.

"Alexa, you don't just say that while I'm driving!"

"Sorry, don't kill me– or any of us."

"I think I failed the test." I huff, slamming my locker shut as I turn to look at Emily.

"I think I only got three questions wrong, but that's only because Damien helped me study yesterday while you were gone."

"Lucky." I mutter, "Meanwhile, I was busy breaking up with Alex."

She frowns, "Wait, why? What happened? Do I need to cuss him out again?"

"No, Em, you don't need to cuss him out." I laugh, walking beside her as we exit the school building. "His mom asked how he asked me out and he answered truthfully and–"

"Pendejo (idiot)."

"Right? Anyways, she didn't like how he did it so she asked for us to break up and for him to do it better next time." I explain, "I broke up with him, after I found out that I was his very first girlfriend."

"Wait, what the hell?"

"Right? I was just as shocked as you were, and so were his mom and Alexa." I follow her to her car, entering the passenger's seat as she takes driver's.

"That's crazy, I thought you would be like his fiftieth." She mutters, putting the key into the ignition before she pulls out of the parking lot.

"True."

"What are your plans today, girl?" She asks me, keeping her eyes on the road.

"Don't have none, why?"

"Great, all the guys from the soccer team are going to this party out of town and Damien invited me. He also told me to bring you, if you wanted to come."

"Sounds fun, for someone who wants to risk getting lost." I tell her, pulling down the visor to stop the sun from hitting my face. "You know how I feel about going out of town—this is my comfort zone."

"Come on, don't be a party pooper for me. I don't like going to parties if my best friend isn't there with me."

"Damien will be there with you, so you won't be alone." I point out.

"It's not the same, Courtney. He will be spending time with his friends, it's their last year together as a team."

"Soccer season is over."

"That doesn't mean the team has to separate, they're all really close. Come on, Courtney, for me." She pleads, tilting her head to show me her pouty face

I sigh, sliding my hand down my face. "Fine, just focus on the road."

"I knew you'd give in!" She cheers, parking her car in the drive way.

"When don't I?" I ask myself, exiting the car and following her into the house.

"Em, last time the heels gave me blisters. Can I just wear one of your pair of sandals?" I ask her pleadingly, watching her put on her white high heels.

She looks up at me as she straps them on, "That depends, are you agreeing to wear the crop top that I gave you?"

I groan, "Stop being so manipulative!"

"Can't change the way I am." She winks.

"Although I wish it, every single day." I mumble, removing my shirt and pulling on the white crop top she handed me.

"What was that?"

"Nothing." I quickly say, pulling it down on my figure. I grimace as it doesn't make an effort to cover my stomach or shoulders, at all. "I can wear this with pants right?"

"Sure, but wear the tightest ones."

I nod my head as I go over to the drawer where my jeans are, picking out my favorite high-waisted jeans. I remove my shorts and slide my legs into the jeans, struggling a little to get them all the way up.

"Alright, I'm dressed. Where are your white sandals?" I ask, walking up to her closet.

"In the black box, on top of the pink one."

"Got it."

I pull out the pair and put them on, completing my outfit before I look at myself in the mirror. "Hey these jeans help me look not-that-bad."

"Oh, shush, you have a best friend who used to dress way worst than that."

"Not really, you just liked to dress very...revealing." I finish, laughing as she throws her pillow at me. "Kinda like the outfit you're currently wearing."

"I'm going to wear this" —she accentuates her point as she pulls on a pink kimono— "over my outfit, so the length of my skirt doesn't matter."

"I didn't say anything about the length of your skirt," I point out, "But now that you mention it, it is really really short."

"Like I said, it doesn't matter because this kimono covers my ass very well."

"I'm sure you're going to take it off thirty minutes into the party." I say, lifting her skirt to check if she's wearing shorts under. "Oh my god, Em. Seriously, a thong?"

"Damien is going to be there..." She thinks she's making it better by reminding me.

"No, I'm sorry, but I'm not letting you leave this house without at least normal underwear."

To my surprise, she grins and gives me a tight hug. "You're a great best friend, I was only testing if you'd actually look out for me."

I roll my eyes, "Of course, I'm the responsible friend here."

"Yes, yes you are."

"Let's remember the rules before we go in." I say, turning to look at Emily still sitting in the driver's seat.

"I know the rules, Courtney, let's just go."

I sigh as I watch her exit the car, walking up to the house before she looks back and motions for me to come out as well.

Hesitantly, I open the door and step out of the car, walking up to an excited Emily, who is desperate to get a drink in her system.

"Em–"

"Let's go, I love this DJ already." She grabs my hand and tugs me into the house, the music instantly making my head pound.

"Em, don't leave my side." I shout over the music in hopes that she hears me.

"I'm gonna go look for Damien!"

"No!" I shout, but my vision of her disappears as she squishes herself between the crowd of people dancing. "Fuck!"

"Hey, careful with that word; you don't want to encourage any guys now, do you?" A voice speaks into my ear, and I turn around to see Alex holding a black solo cup.

"Well, that's new." I say, pointing at the cup.

He immediately holds it out for me, "It's just soda—I'm driving."

I nod my head and take a sip, looking into his eyes as I do so. He smiles at me, blowing me a small kiss as he takes a sip after me.

"Can you please help me look for Emily? She already ran off, when the number one rule is to not do that." I ask him, leaning in a little so he can hear me properly.

"Sure, let's go."

I can't help but smile as he interlocks our hands together, guiding me around the house as we look for my crazy best friend.
