Alpha On The Hunt Chapter 47 âIt appears you hit a nerve Osiris. We donât take too kindly to threats to our mates in this city, even those of us that arenât mated, correct Thomas?â
âI may not see eye to eye with Axton or Elena, but there are some lines you donât cross!â Thomas retorts and Osirisâ eyes move around the table.
âSwitzerland!â Alpha Cane raises his hand, and I fight the urge to roll my eyes. We know he wants no part in any of this. He didnât even want to be Alpha.
Osiris laughs. âIt was just a little healthy competition. I have no intentions of going after Axtonâs mate.â
Osiris quickly states, recognizing his mistake.
âHad you been in this city long enough, Osiris, youâd know the very law you threatened to break. We put it in place! Mates are off limits, and anyone that breaks that earns death. What happens between mates stays between mates only.â I inform him.
âAnd I hear Elena has fought and protested hard to have that changed. Arenât all her pack members from abused mate bonds? You abused your own, from what I hear?â Osiris says, his eyes flashing, daring me to disagree so I donât.
âCorrect. There needs to be conditions added to that law, special circumstances with the ability to still protect what the moon. goddess desired.â I tell him.
âBut that law is mostly dependent on the city in which you live?â Osiris questions.
âCorrect, but nearly every city has adopted it, same as pack punishment remains within the pack,â I state.
âAnother law we have spoken of in the past and are thinking of changing?â Alpha Thomas states, coming to my defense for the first time since I have I sat at the head table. Usually, we are at each otherâs throats. Maybe he feels even more threatened, given he mate left him for another. Come to think of it, he fought hard to have the law introduced into our city and now I think I know why.
The supernatural council creates the laws, but overall it is at the discretion of the city councils whether they adopt them and make them their own.
âAm I correct in thinking this law was brought forth for debate since Elena was banished?â
âCorrect. Elena, being my mate, it should have protected her. It didnât, and I nearly lost her and my sons when her father beat her from an inch of her life.â I tell him, my stomach sinking at the memory.
âThe law was added a month later. Meaning, had it been in place, Derrick would have been forced to hand her over and she would have been placed under my protection.â
âAnd yet his Luna broke the law when she rejected him,â Osiris states boldly. Clearly, he hasnât even looked at the laws to know so little about the ones we protect in this city.
âAs we said, conditions need to be made, but no, she never broke the law and neither did Elena when she rejected me and I her. The law states mate issues are sacred and handled between the. mates.
Louise rejected Derrick. That was her choice, same as it was mine and his, to whether we accept it.â
âAnd did you?â he asks and I growl.
âNo, but itâs handled between mates, and in my eyes, she did nothing wrong, therefore sheâs broken no laws!â
âBut didnât she intervene last night when it came to Derrick?â my eyes flicker, he was getting on my nerves.
âNo, she was protecting her pack! Which she is entitled to do. Her mother is part of her pack, and pack issues and relations are left to the Alpha to decide in discretion!â
âAh, yes. I know that already, that law is universal. Not as many have adopted the mates one yet. But from my understanding, Elena doesnât fall under the city laws.â
âProtecting your pack from attack is a given. She doesnât need to be under city law for that one. It is an international law unless a werewolf city has it removed or clarified conditions for it.â I repeat, like a d*mn parrot.
âExactly my point, Alpha Axton,â Osiris states.
âWhat point are you trying to make, exactly?â I ask him.
âElena isnât part of the city, because she doesnât reside in it yet. She doesnât fall under the city laws!â
âPack business is not a city law, Osiris, it is an international one!â
âCorrect, but the sacred mateâs law is, therefore if I chose to go after Elena, I would not be breaking any laws at all. Because she is not protected by the city. Therefore, she is fair game!â A feral growl tears out of me, and Thomas also snarls along with another Alpha. Osiris raises his hand in mock surrender.
âNot that I would, of course. I do have limits. To give you something to think about, Alpha Axton. I would hate for a lesser man to know that information. It could cause you a lot of heartache!â yet I hear his words loud and clear and the threat behind each one.
I just made a fool out of him by meeting his challenge and now I have done something foolish myself. I have just put Elena and my sons at risk unless I can get her to agree to move to the city asap.
âI call to adjourn this meeting until the usual time on Friday?â Osiris says, and we all nod. My phone starts ringing on the table and my mood has turned even sourer. The alphas leave and I pick up my phone.
âYes, Eli!â I answer it.
âIs this your f*cking idea of getting along, and fixing things, Axton!â Elenaâs angry voice screeches at me and I sit up straighter.
âWhat?â I ask, trying to figure out what is going on.
âYou took it too far this time. I agreed, I f*cking agreed to be with you, agreed to accept the bond, but because I am not moving quick enough for you, you pull this s*it!â she screams at me, her booming voice making me yank the phone away from my ear.
âPull what? I have done nothing, Elena!â
âNothing, they are ripping about my land! I thought we were past all this!â she snaps.
âPast what? I donât understand why youâre yelling at me! Where is Eli?â
âRight here, and while youâre on the phone with him, tell your men to get the f*ck off my territory!â she screams at me. My heart races in my chest, feeling her rage like a blazing fire burning through me. I hear the phone being passed to someone.
âTalk to your f*cking Alpha and get the f*ck off my land!â I hear her snap at him before I hear his voice.
âWhy havenât you been answering your bl*ody phone or the mind link?â Eli snaps at me.
âIâve been dealing with f*cking Osiris, that is why! What the f*ck is going on?â I snarl at him.
âOh, she is pi*sed. You f*cked up big time Alpha, she wants us gone.â
âWill you tell me what the f*ck I did?â I yell at him.
âYou ordered the f*cking subdivision being built out here. They came out this morning and started tearing the sheds down!â
âNo, I canceled-â my blood runs cold when I realize I completely forgot about canceling it.
âYou wanna do something because sheâs pi*sed!â
âNo s*it!â I tell him.
âNot her. F*cking Sondra, and sheâs armed. Call them off Axton before she shoots one of us!â I growl at him.
âI forgot! Why would I ruin everything when me and her were just getting along? I just got my boys back, for f*ckâs sake!â
âI know that, but Elena doesnât! She thinks you are trying to force her back to the city!â
âYeah, well, she needs to come back like now. Osiris threatened her this morning, and she is not under city protection.â Eli curses.
âSo, what do you want me to do?â
âFor now, move off her territory, remain on the borders, while I try to fix it. Just let me make some phone calls.â I tell him, hanging up on him and instantly looking for the project managerâs number.
