Vivek's phone rang, shrill in the silence of the night. He groggily reached for it, answering the call.
"Vivek, we've got another MDMA packet," a voice said on the other end.
Vivek sat up, instantly alert. "Where?"
"Men's hostel, near the university."
Vivek nodded, throwing off the covers. "I'm on my way."
He quickly changed into his uniform and made his way to Gayathri's room. She was sleeping soundly, oblivious to the world.
Vivek shook her gently, waking her. Gayathri sat up, rubbing her eyes.
Vivek whispered, "I have to go to the station. There's been another MDMA packet found. And Vaiga is alone in my room, sleep with her."
Gayathri nodded, throwing off the covers. She followed Vivek to the door, locking it behind him.
Vivek was on the phone while walking towards the car. He started the engine and drove off into the night.
Gayathri wondered about the weird timings of Vivek's job. Why was he so obsessed with his job?
She made her way to Vivek's room, where Vaiga was sleeping peacefully. She slipped into bed beside Vaiga, inhaling the scent of Vivek's cologne on the pillow.
Suddenly, she was wide awake, her mind racing with thoughts of Vivek. She thought back to their moments together - the way he smiled at her, the way he teased her, the way he looked at her with such intensity.
Gayathri's eyes drifted shut, but she couldn't shake off the feeling that she was falling for Vivek, hard.
"No," she told herself, her eyes snapping open. "No, I can't forgive Vivek for what he did to me."
