Chapter 165
âAre you concerned about whoâs been mistreating me, worried if Iâve been wrong, or⦠do you care about me?â Millieâs voice trailed off, her last words barely audible. It was as if the wind had swept them away.
Winston fell silent for a moment.
Millie smiled wryly. She knew that asking that would only hurt herself. So, she calmly gave herself an out. âI get it, Mr. Greer. Youâre just looking out for me as an ex- husband.â
The elevator doors opened. After stepping in, Millie looked at Winston standing outside and realized she couldnât cross the boundary anymore. Their relationship could only end here.
âMr. Greer, are you coming?â she asked with a polite smile, as if she were speaking to
a stranger.
In fact, Winstonâs dinner wasnât over yet. He glanced at his watch. Seeing that it was almost time, he believed Eli could handle the rest..
But when Millie saw him checking the time, she assumed he wasnât coming. Hence, she pressed the button to close the door.
Just as they were about to close, Winston blocked them. He walked in and said casually, âIâll give you a ride home.â
Millie raised an eyebrow. Once he was inside the elevator, she pressed the close door button again before replying, âI can go home by myself.â
âIâm heading that way anyway.â
Millie didnât respond.
As the elevator descended, neither of them spoke. When the doors opened, they walked out together.
However, as they neared the restaurantâs entrance, they ran into Joanna. She approached Winston with a bright smile. Winston, on the other hand, couldnât help but wonder how she ended up there.
Joanna wrapped her arms around his waist. She glanced at Millle, then directed her gaze upward to him.

âHave you been drinking?â she asked coquettishly.
Winston frowned and asked, âDid Eli tell you I was here?â

Joanna obediently nodded. âYes, he did. tried contacting you, but I didnât hear back.â
In the next second, she entwined her fingers with Winstonâs. Every gesture and smile of hers hinted at flirtation as she coyly said, âWin, Logan is free tonight. Heâd like to invite you over for dinner at our place.â
Millie couldnât bear to watch their display of affection. Every action felt like a stab to her heart. Seeing how engrossed they were with each other, she felt there was no point in staying and left.
âMillie!â Winston called out from behind.
Yet, she merely waved dismissively without looking back. âThereâs no need to give me a ride. I can go home by myself.â
Joanna stared at Millieâs retreating figure, her mind filled with questions. Eli had told her that Winston was there to discuss a collaboration. How did he end up meeting Millie?
She was convinced Millie hadnât given up yet and had intentionally bumped into Winston. The thought only fueled the rage burning inside her.
Joanna feared she would never become Winstonâs legitimate wife if she didnât eliminate Millie.
âJoanna, please donât ask Eli about my schedule anymore.â
Her hand wrapped around Winstonâs waist was abruptly removed. She glanced at him and noticed his expression had darkened. He appeared displeased.
Joanna started to explain herself. âI couldnât reach you, so I-â
Winston lowered his voice and cut her off, âIf you couldnât reach me, it means Iâm busy. When Iâm free, Iâll try to contact you
Upon hearing his words, Joannaâs face fell immediately.
âJust look through our chat history. How many times have you contacted me in a year? Youâre always so busy!â she grumbled, crossing her arms with displeasure.
Winston paused. He reckoned he had spent more than enough time with Joanna, yet she was still dissatisfied.

What about Millie, then? He barely contacted her throughout the year.
As Winston reflected on how he responded to Millieâs texts and calls, he realized he could never make up for it.
âWin, I just love you too muchâ¦â Joanna muttered with her head lowered.
This time, instead of causing a scene, she expressed her love.
