Aurora
After agreeing to go on a date with Max, I walked back home, still unsure if it was a good idea or not.
After all, I was still mated to Wolfgang.
As I opened the door, someone grabbed my hand and shoved me against the wall.
I closed my eyes from the sudden force as my back hit the wall. When I opened them, Wolfgang had me pinned between the wall and his body.
His eyes held a menacing glare that I had never seen before. They were an intense shade of blue, not the normal baby blue I was used to.
âWhat the hell is wrââ
But he placed his hand over my mouth, shutting me up as he started sniffing me.
~âWhat the hell? Let me go!â~ I mind-linked to him.
He snapped his head back up to face me as he growled. Thatâs when I realized that this was not Wolfgang, but Cronnos, who had taken over.
I managed to get his hand off my mouth. âCronnos. Let Wolfgang take back control, now,â I commanded him.
He wouldnât budge, though, and his glare turned into one filled with lust. I knew what it meant.
I could feel the sparks all over my body, and I was sure he could as well.
Rhea was howling senselessly in my mind fighting me for dominance, but I couldnât let her get the best of me.
I couldnât give into it.
So I spoke once more, this time with much more authority. âCronnos! Now!â
He flinched, then huffed, before allowing Wolfgang to return.
His baby blue eyes returned. Then he realized the position we were in, and he pushed away from the wall.
âIâm sorry,â he said in a whisper. He looked almost vulnerable. I hated it. He wasnât the victim here. I was.
~âWhat should we do, Aurora?â~ Rhea asked in my mind. ~âWe should tell him about the date with his beta, but Iâm afraid he will bite Maxâs head off.â~
~âI know. But I donât know how to say it.â~ I answered her.
It was true. It wasnât like I was some heartless monster who could tell him that Iâd be going on a date with his second-in-command and that he had no say in it.
Still, it was my right, wasnât it? He had done the same to me with Tallulah.
âCan I askâ¦what was the urgent matter Max had with you?â Wolfgang asked, interrupting us.
~âOh no.â~ Rhea cowered back. I totally understood.
I wanted to run away too, just to avoid answering that question, but I couldnât do that. Itâd be too suspicious. I had to play it cool.
âOh, yeahâ¦he needed my opinion on girly matters. I said Iâd help him out with it tomorrow.â
I knew I was being a coward by not telling him the truth, but I couldnât bring myself to tell him that I was going on a date with someone else tomorrow.
Much less, saying his best friend and second-in-command.
~I am a horrible person, and Iâm going to rot in hell for this.~
He looked at me, as if questioning whether or not I was telling the truth, before sighing and nodding his head.
âWell, if thatâs all. I guess there isnât anything for me to worry about,â he said, shocking me.
âHuh? Did I hear you correctly? Youâre not gonna go all jealous and possessive on me because Iâm going to town with Max tomorrow?â
I knew I was treading on dangerous ground, but I had to make sure.
âFor once, no. I trust you, Aurora. So Iâll give my beta the benefit of doubt,â he said making me feel even worse.
âWellâ¦Iâ¦I appreciate it,â I answered. For the first time since Iâd returned from deathâs grip, I was at a loss for words when it came to Wolfgang.
âAnyway, Iâll be leaving the village this evening. I ordered Kala to come in and prepare your meals. I know how you tend to eat only junk food, but Iâd prefer it if you ate something homemade.â
He picked up a duffle bag that I hadnât noticed was sitting next to the door.
âI donât need a nanny, you know. Waitâ¦leaving? Where are you going? Arenât we forbidden to leave the village because of our newest enemy threat?â I asked him.
âMy people, including you, are. But I am the alpha. I can go and come as I please.â He gave me a wink before opening the door.
âBut donât worry, I wonât be going far. Just to the neighbouring village for a summit about this situation. Iâll be back in three or four days.â
He looked at me. âUntil then, I beg you, for once, to listen to me and stay within our village. Donât even think of going to the borderlines and much less in your shift.â
I could see the concern in his eyes.
He was unsure whether or not to leave, so for once I obliged, and nodded my head. âI wonât stray or wander into the woods.â
He visibly relaxed. âGood. Iâll see you in three days.â He gave me a smile before heading out the door.
~âWellâ¦this turned out way different from what I had imagined,â~ Rhea said.
I totally agreed.
Maybe it was for the best that Wolfgang had to leave. Itâd make me feel less guilty, roaming town with Max as my date, without him around.
Tomorrow, Iâd go on that date with Max, just to appease him, to show him that we were definitely not meant to be together.
I was mated to Wolfgang, even if I didnât acknowledge him as my mate. He hadnât rejected me yet, so this could be considered cheating.
But wouldnât it be retaliation for what he did to me with Tallulah?
Still, this wasnât fair to either of them.
Tomorrow, I would make things clear to Max.
