Chapter 50: Majestic Shift

Hated by My Mate: The Unwanted LunaWords: 5826

We ran back to our pack’s village in our wolf forms.

Yes, Aurora got away with it.

In fact, she’d left no room for discussion when she got up and left at the break of dawn, though not before thanking Alpha Magnar and the rest of his pack.

We’d now been running in the woods, swerving between trees, for the past fifteen hours. I was amazed at her stamina. She never stopped surprising me.

Even though I’d rather have kept her safe, and gone back to Ileana by train, she was right about the delay it would mean to our return.

The idea of something or someone targeting werewolves was very alarming, and I needed to get to the bottom of it.

Still, the need to keep my mate safe was greater, and I couldn’t help to worry about her safety.

Out here, we were a bigger target for whatever was kidnapping our kind, especially Aurora in her majestic white fur shift, with those tantalizing eyes.

I couldn’t help but admire her beautiful wolf form. How had I not realized that she was the epitome of perfection?

~“Alpha!”~ she growled in my mind, dragging me out of my train of thoughts. ~“I’d appreciate it if you avoided the uncomfortable thoughts lingering in your mind about me. And stop calling me your mate.’~

Crap. The mind link.

~“Forgive me, Aurora. But you are my mate. And the future Luna of the Blood Moon pack. It’s time you start accepting that,”~ I answered.

She suddenly stopped and turned back to me, snapping her fangs.

~“When the fuck are you going to get it in your thick skull? I’m not your mate! I’ll never be!”~ she growled at me, baring her fangs.

’I’m not rejecting you. We are mates. The Moon Goddess mated us for a reason. I failed to see it at first, but now I know clearly the reason behind it,” I answered.

I paused, then continued. “I fucked up big time by treating you the way I did. I’d give this life, and the next five hundred lives, to redeem myself to you.”~

She stood in silence for a couple of minutes, then finally huffed and turned around to carry on her way.

~“Believe me. Five hundred years wouldn’t be enough,”~ she said before dashing off at full speed.

She was right. It still wouldn’t be enough.

We continued running in complete silence, only making occasional stops at riverbeds to quench our thirst, or to catch a wild rabbit or a boar to eat, before carrying on.

Forty eight hours later, we were finally crossing the village gates, and on our way to the pack’s house.

I shifted before we got to the door, and the guards opened them for us, but I almost missed my step when I heard Aurora whine from behind me.

When I turned, I caught her glaring at me before she shook her head and dashed through the now-open doors, heading straight for the maid’s quarters.

Aurora

The nerve of that fucker. What the hell was wrong with him?

To suddenly shift like that, in front of everyone. I mean, I know it’s really common for wolves to walk around in their birth suits, but it was completely uncalled for.

He totally did it on purpose.

~“Nice ass, though,”~ Rhea exclaimed as she fangirled, recreating Wolfgang’s rear end in my head over and over again.

I growled in annoyance as I rounded the corner of the main corridor. I was about to enter the maid’s quarters when a sudden gasp caught my attention.

I turned and saw two maids and the cook looking at me in shock. It took me a couple of seconds to realize that they’ve never seen me in my shifted form.

“Intruder!” One of the maids shouted; the cook aimed his knife at me, ready to attack.

I immediately bowed my head in submission, letting out a whine, but thankfully Remus, Aspen, and Mrs. Kala ran in at that moment.

“Lower your weapon, cook,” Remus ordered the man. “This is your future luna you’re aiming that knife at.”

The man dropped his knife right away.

“Welcome back, Lady Aurora.” Remus turned to me and he bowed his head; the other followed suit. I growled in annoyance and huffed before padding into the maid’s quarters.

I know I should have just shifted and let them know who I was, but I still wasn’t comfortable walking around naked in front of everyone.

I looked around the changing room until I found a huge training shirt that someone must have left behind.

I put it on. The hem barely came to my mid thigh, but it would have to do for now.

I walked back out and found everyone still dumbfounded, looking at me. Aspen was the first to walk up to me; she linked her arm through one of mine.

“Your shift is sooo beautiful Rory! How come you never showed it to us!” she said.

I couldn’t help the tint that quickly took over my cheeks.

“I never had the opportunity to do it,” I answered.

The cook then came up to me, bowing his head, showing his neck in submission.

“Forgive me, Lady Aurora, for threatening you with a weapon. It wasn’t my intention to harm the future luna.”

“Don’t worry about it. I am also at fault for coming in this way, knowing that none of you other than the alpha knew my shift.”

My cheeks were hot. “I’m still not ready to be seen naked by others. I apologise for startling you all.”

“Lady Aurora, did the alpha come back with you? We weren’t expecting you both back for a couple more days,” Remus said.

I nodded. “Yes. He must be in his room getting some clothes. I insisted we come back in our wolf forms, since it’d be faster. Is it really true that our people have been kidnapped?”

As I spoke, we started walking back to the main corridor, then up to the second floor to the alpha’s office.

“Yes, Lady Aurora. So far, eight members of the pack have been reported as missing while they were on the outskirts of the pack lands.”

I nodded.

This was more serious than I’d thought.

Eight of our warriors and seekers reported missing was very alarming.
