Chapter 623 Evelyn Crawls âI know Benjamin likes her too,â said Adam. âBut heâs a businessman first and foremost. He wouldnât do anything she wants just because of love.â
âThatâs right,â said Evelyn. âI think Abel did say that Emmelineâs some sort of bigwig. I thought he was bluffing, but now⦠now I donât think so. And Emmelineâs a fighter too. She beat me up and did something to me. And now Iâm paralyzed. Itâs obvious Emmeline is more than meets the eye. She might have some powerful backer.â
âIs that so?â Abel whispered, âThe Adelmars?â
âThe Adelmar family?â Evelyn gasped. âI think Rosaline mentioned that before.â
âWhat?â Adam looked at her. âExplain that.â
âIâ¦â Evelyn shook her head. âI canât. I vaguely remember Rosaline bringing that name up once, and then nothing.â
âYou said she did something to you?â Adam frowned. âAnd then you got paralyzed?â
Evelyn teared up and nodded like a hurt puppy. âYes.â
âTry moving around,â said Adam. âIt might be a coincidence.â
Evelyn pushed herself up, but she leaned ahead and fell. âI canât. I have no feeling from the waist down.â
âSo she did this to you?â Adamâs frown deepened.
âCanât explain this otherwise,â said Evelyn.
âI see.â Adam said, âIâll take you to Sunny Avenue. Thereâs one Mr. Ywain there. He knows about the esoteric arts. He can see if the attack is an Adelmar skill.â
âCan he heal me then?â Evelyn cried. âI want to pee, but I canât even get out of bed.â
âWhat a hassle!â Adam frowned in annoyance and turned around. âYou, help her.â
âYes, master.â Alana felt disgusted about helping Evelyn pee, but she had her orders. If she tried to defy him, he would slap her.
âDo your business, now.â Adam gave her a look of disgust and left.
Alana helped Evelyn out of bed, but she had forgotten that Evelyn had lost all feeling from the waist down. She didnât use enough strength, and Evelyn fell ahead. âYou didnât do that on purpose, did you?â
âNo,â snapped Alana. âYou almost brought me down with you.â
âI lost all feeling in my legs. Can you blame me?â
âI am not blaming you. Now get up. The masterâs waiting.â
Evelyn pushed herself up and tearfully said, âIâd rather die than live like this.â
âThe master said heâd take you to Mr. Ywain.â Alana bent over to pull her up. âNow do your business, and donât let the master wait.â
âBut you canât hold me up,â said Evelyn. âI know the restroom is nearby, but I canât get to it.â
Alana mocked, âYou can always crawl like a baby. And then Iâll help.â
âWhat? Are you mocking me?â
âNot at all.â Alana chortled. âYouâre too heavy for me to hold up. What if I let you go, and you fall again?
Itâs better if you crawl on all fours.â
Evelyn cried. âDamn you, Emmeline! This is all your fault!â She had no choice but to crawl, or she would pee in her dress. She got into the bathroom and crawled up the toilet bowl.
