Back at The Precipice, Emmelineâs eyes were swelling after she cried.
Abel teased her, âYouâre so ugly. If I knew this, I wouldnât bring you back.â
Emmeline sniffed. âYou promised to drink with me. If you donât drink, youâre a puppy!â
âAlright, Iâll drink with you!â
âYes, drink it!â Emmeline shouted, âYou wonât do anything to me anyway!â
âWhat about you?â Abel narrowed his eyes. âYou canât do anything to me!â
âDonât worry!â Emmeline said, âIâll fall asleep if Iâm drunk. I wonât do anything to you!â
âThen letâs drink!â Abel said, âDrink until youâre satisfied!â
Kendra did not say anything when she saw them like this.
She warmed the dishes again, put the wine on the table, and went upstairs to coax Quincy.
Abel filled the wine for Emmeline and himself.
âDrink!â Emmeline held the glass. âNo matter what, just get drunk!â
âOkay!â Abel responded, âIâll accompany you!â
One glass after another, Emmeline, who was not good at drinking, was drunk after a while.
She slumped on the chair without opening her eyes. She was still moaning and yelling, âDrink! Keep going, Abel! If you donât drink, youâre a puppy!â
âEmma, you drank too much.â Abel picked her up. âYou canât cure all your worries with wine. Go upstairs and rest.â
âIâm not drunk.â Emmeline put her arms around his neck. âI can drink three more glasses.â
âYou can drink it tomorrow. If you drink it again, youâll feel uncomfortable and vomit.â
âIâm already feeling uncomfortable. But I feel better after drinking more. I donât need to think about anything.â
âFool.â Abel pinched her nose. âWhy are you making trouble with yourself? Do you think drinking is fun?
Itâll only hurt your body!â
âYou donât like me anyway.â Emmeline sniffled and whimpered, âSo I donât want to be sober anymore. I want to get drunk. So I wonât feel sadâ¦â
Abel was speechless.
He carried Emmeline upstairs, put her on the bed in the guest room, and changed her pajamas.
âAbel.â Emmeline knew in a daze that she was in the guest room. She burst into tears. âI donât want to sleep in the guest room. I want to sleep with you. I want you to hug me. Youâre my hubbyâ¦â
âBe good.â Abel tucked in the quilt for her. âIâll ask Kendra to cook you hangover soup, or youâll have a headache tomorrow.â
âAbel.â Emmeline hugged his neck with tears in her eyes. âAre you really not love me?â
âWhether I love you or not, I care about you all the time.â
âI know. Itâs because youâre embarrassed. You have a strong sense of responsibility.â
âWhat are you talking about? What am I embarrassed about?â
Abel patted her face gently. âI should care about you. Because youâre the mother of my sons.â
âYou just donât love me anymore! Iâm so sad!â
âOkay.â Abel tucked her in the quilt again. âYouâll be fine when you wake up after sleep. Donât drink too much in the future. Alcohol canât solve the problem.â
âAbel, you really donât love me anymoreâ¦â
Emmeline whimpered and finally fell asleep slowly.
Abel sat on the bedside. He gently wiped away the tears from Emmelineâs eyes and caressed her delicate lips.
âI donât love you anymore. But Emma, why does my heart throb when I kiss you?â
Abel sighed softly and quietly left the guest room. He went downstairs and asked Kendra to cook hangover soup.
When the soup became warm, Abel fed Emmeline the soup.
Emmeline had never drunk so much wine before. She slept deeply.
Abel put down the bowl and spoon, then hugged her tightly.
He felt relieved. If he had not arrived at the Nimbus Hotel in time, Adam would have taken advantage of the drunk Emmeline.
