After hearing from Roman that his wife had not yet returned to her room, Alexcent headed to the training grounds. Seeing how she wasnât there he searched for her and when he did, he stood frozen.
Seeing her smiling, he turned his heavy footsteps around.

That night, Amethyst waited up for Alexcent and greeted him as he came back from his study.
âYou arenât asleep yet.â
âI was waiting for you.â
âGo to sleep.â He said dismissively but Amethyst wasnât willing to let him go just yet.
As he headed towards the bed, she grabbed a hold of his arm. âWait, are you very tired?â
âNo.â His frown not betraying what he felt inside.
âThen come over here and take a seat.â Amethyst pointed towards the table.
âWhy?â
âSince we havenât had the time to talk much lately. I know youâre busy but stillâ¦â
There were finger foods and wine laid out on the table. It was intentionally prepared for sure.
âItâs you who donât have the time to talk. Since youâre busy with Barden.â
Alexcent wasnât up for it, but he went to the table as she wanted. âGen says youâre busy preparing for the royal hunting competitionâ¦.â
âYes.â
âHas your arm healed?â
âYes.â
âThatâs good. Glad itâs healing.â
Alexcent brought the glass to his lips. It wasnât a bad wine but somehow the after taste was bitter. âAh, try some of this. Donât drink on an empty stomach.â
Amethyst picked a cookie from the plate and placed it in his mouth.
âHow is it?â
âWell, itâs not too bad.â
âReally? Isnât it tasty? Guess who made it?â
âWho made it?â
âBarden.â
ââ¦.â
As Amethyst revealed who, Alexcent froze, unable to swallow nor spit out the cookie in his mouth.
âHe bakes as a hobby. The more I look at him, the more I think heâs a good person.â
âHe has a considerate side tooâ¦and seeing how he never misses out on a day of practice he also seems diligent.â Amethyst continued.
âI think heâs a good husband material. What do you think?â Amethyst asked with glistening eyes.
Alexcent scoffed at her words. âHa, unbelievable. What do I think? She thinks Iâm condoning it just because Iâm remaining silent.â
Alexcent drank up all the wine in his glass, placed it on the table with a bang and spoke. âThatâs enough!â
With those words he left her bedroom and left a startled Amethyst all alone to wonder what had happened.

The next day, Lunia asked her a question out of the blue.
âMy lady, are you perhaps hiding anything from me?â
âHiding?â
âYes.â
âNo, I donât think so.â Amethyst thought hard after listening to Luniaâs question, but nothing came to mind.
âAlright then. Let me ask directly instead.â Lunia took a deep breath. âWhy are you on such good terms with Barden?â
âBarden?â
âYes.â
âMm, wellâ¦I wouldnât say weâre on good terms but more like Iâm helping him out?â
âHelping? With what?â
âMmmâ¦I canât really sayâ¦.â
âMy lady!â
I guess itâs okay if Lunia knows right? Well, Barden didnât say itâs a secret and tell me not to tell anybody. As long as I donât mention the details.
âFineâ¦but only you should know.â
âYes. Understood.â
Amethyst whispered the answer to Lunia. Of course, she didnât mention who his one-sided love was.
âSo, youâre saying, that you are helping him out with his unrequited loveâ
âYes. Barden isnât good with his words, so he seemed to have suffered quite a bit. Like on how to talk comfortably with women or talk to others without getting misunderstood. Iâm teaching him a few stuff like that.â
After hearing Amethyst, Lunia was speechless and burst out laughing. It was far from what she had expected. After hearing from Roman that the prince had left the bedroom angrily, Lunia couldnât understand why Madam was keeping Barden so close and had decided to ask.âWhat? Teach him how to talk to others without being misunderstood?! Really, what should I do with our dear ladyâ¦â
Lunia finally managed to talk. âI donât think youâre in a place to help Barden.
âWhat? Why?â
âWell thatâs because the dukeâ
âNo. Why should I meddle with this. Besidesâ¦itâs not every day you get to see the duke rage in jealousy.â Lunia, still holding a slight bit of a grudge from the previous incident, decided to prolong the situation a little longer and have her little revenge.
âYes Lunia?â
âOh, nothing my lady!â
âA-alright. Anyway, Lunia, make sure to keep it a secret!â
âOf course, my lady.â
But the thing about secrets, once theyâre out, everyone is bound to know.

Several days had passed but ever since then, there was no chance of running into Alexcent. Amethyst felt his presence in the night but that was all.
By the time she opened her eyes, he was long gone. Because of that Amethyst was extremely unhappy and starting to feel annoyed.
âMy lady.â
âYes.â
âThe head of the knights wishes me to relay a message.â
âSir Hill?â
âYes, he says after training today they will be eating what you like at the training grounds, and wonders if you would like to join them.â
What I like? Ah, intestines!
It was good news. She was craving for a good chew to relieve her stress.
âOf course!â
âThen I will relay the message.â
Amethyst got up from her seat and headed straight for the kitchen. She asked for the chefâs permission then prepared onions, garlic, potatoes, etc. Things that would be good to grill together and then headed to the training ground.
âHave you started already?â
âNot yet. We just got the fire going.â
âThatâs a relief.â
Amethyst walked towards the corner of the grounds where the knights were huddled around.
