Chapter 105 The Last Time I kept quiet, so Camille kept her act up. âPlease, itâs not her fault. If itâs anyoneâs fault, itâs mine. She was Domâs girlfriend, after all.â
âSee, Camille, youâre too kind for your own good. You think sheâs your friend, but she doesnât see you the same way. I know. I saw how she treated you.â
I rolled my eyes in exasperation. Another gullible soul. And here I thought sheâs as smart as she looks. Camille didnât have an ounce of kindness in her. Her soul was nothing but a wicked cesspool.
âSheâs not that kind of person. We used to be great friends.â
âAlright, enough. Stand back.â
The woman pulled Camille back and shot me a nasty look. âI know youâre Domâs ex, but thatâs all you are now. His ex. Donât even get any ideas about him, and stay away from Camille. We donât welcome women like you here.â
Women like me? Wow, you jumped the gun before you even got to know me. Camilleâs a fake b*tch, but anyone could see through her if they tried hard enough. This womanâs just stupid. Yeah, not my problem even if she was a moron. Itâs not like Iâd run into her anyway.
Ah, but I had to explain myself. No, not because I was trying to get in her good books. Not gonna make her head bigger than it already was. âUm, maâam, donât get ahead of yourself. Your son isnât as popular as you think he is. Itâs not like heâs the king of the world, you know.
âYou ladies should get him off my back ASAP instead of hounding me around. Now that he has a fiancée, I suggest they get married as soon as possible. And tell him to stop harassing me. I donât want to get in trouble for his mistakes.â
I still liked him, but since we had gotten to this point, it was impossible for us to date anymore. If he were to marry Camille, I could finally give up on him too, so win-win. Yeah, heartbreak and bitterness would be the price to pay, but it was a reasonable price.
I mean, the guy was just one fish in the ocean. Now that someone had angled him, I could move on to the next fish.
âLooks like someone really wants to attend my wedding, huh?â
I froze up and turned around ever so slowly, while Camille darted to Dominicâs side. âHey, you shouldnât be getting around.â She held his arm. âYouâre still not off the IV infusion yet.â
The old hag went up to him, ignoring me. âWhat are you doing?â she chided. âYouâre still sick! You shouldnât have come out, not when youâre only wearing a shirt.â
âIt is getting chilly. Camille, take mom to my ward and grab my jacket for me.â
Whoa, so that old lady really was Dominicâs mom. Hmm, guess I really crossed her when I insulted her son.
She was still fussing over her son though, worried that he might catch something if he kept walking around sick. âNo. Go to your ward and rest up. Youâre not going anywhere until youâre all healed.â
âCamille,â Dominic called her again.
Camille followed his every beck and call, so she was about to take his mother away, but the old lady glared at me. âI know where his ward is.â She went to Dominicâs ward. âStay with Dom, Camille. Keep an eye on him.â
She gave me another look. Honestly, what was she thinking? I wouldnât do anything to her son. I clicked my tongue, feeling vexed about the matter.
The guy might be sick, but he was still strong. I couldnât do anything to him even if I wanted to.
After his mother had left, Dominic and Camille came up to me. He was looking thinner than the last time I saw him since his shirt was already getting oversized.
And he was looking sickly pale, so I instinctively walked up to him. In case he were to fall, I could grab him in time, but when I met his gaze, a chill ran down my spine, and the temperature around me dropped by a few centigrade.
âSo, you want to attend my wedding?â he asked.
The question caught me by surprise, so I froze up, while Camille looked at me nervously, waiting for my answer.
âEven if I say no, would that stop you from marrying your fiancée?â
Dominic gazed at me. âAre you going to attend or not?â He was still insistent.
Crap, I told myself to give up on him, but for some reason, my heart was starting to pound. Whatâs he getting at? Would he cancel the wedding if I say no? âI⦠Hey, if you guys want to get hitched, get hitched. I donât get to call the shots here.â
I put a calm façade on, but I was pinching my thigh behind him, forcing myself to stay cool. I was terribly hurt five years ago, but he still wouldnât let me go after our reunion. Even after five years, he was still playing me like a fool.
Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. I wasnât gonna let him bully me again, so I wouldnât play along anymore.
Dominic looked disappointed after hearing my answer, much to my surprise. I wanted to take a closer look, but that look of disappointment was already gone.
He smirked at me. âOf course you donât get to call the shots here. Glad you know where you stand,â he said hoarsely. âBut since you want to attend my wedding, Iâll send you an RSVP. We hope to see you there.â
I clenched my fists tightly, trying my best to stay calm. âSure. Iâm happy for you two.â
Dominic stared at me intently, then he raised his voice, âYou heard her, Camille. Donât forget to send her an RSVP.â
Camille was obviously overjoyed. âIâm glad youâre attending our wedding, Liliana,â she gushed. âIâll be giving you the RSVP the first chance I get.â
I could feel my heart shattering into a million pieces, then Dominicâs mother came back with his jacket.
âAlright, thatâs enough.â She draped the jacket on him. âLetâs go back now.â
I stood rooted to my spot and saw them off, feeling hurt because of how happy they looked together. Why am I feeling sad? This is exactly what I want. Now that theyâre happily hitched, nobodyâs stopping me from getting another fish.
I sniffled and turned back to the elevator. My reflection was staring back at me, then I realized I was tearing up. Liliana, youâre an idiot. I wiped the tears off my face, but I couldnât stop the sobs.
