Chapter 10: The Storm

The MatchMaker (YEONGYU FF)Words: 12023

It was the middle of the night; everyone was fast asleep until a loud thunderstorm erupted.

Beomgyu awoke from his sleep, and the thunder made his heart jump. He sat up, and the room was dark, making him feel even more scared.

He slowly crept out of bed, going toward the door. He slowly walked out toward Yeonjun's room next to his.

"Y-Yeonjun, are you awake?" He knocked are the slightly ajar door.

"How can I sleep with this weather?" Yeonjun replies, opening the door.

"Right. Can I stay here until it goes away?" Beomgyu asks.

"Sure, not like I can sleep anyways." Yeonjun allows him inside.

"How did you get a nightlight?" Beomgyu asks, seeing the small light across the room plugged in.

"I brought it with me, and you can take it back to your room if you'd like." He offers.

"I'll be fine, and I just dislike thunder." He sighed.

Meanwhile, upstairs, Yena awoke, hearing the loud booming noises. She walked over to Soona's room to see if she was awake; upon opening the door, she saw Soona asleep; snoring peacefully.

"How can she sleep in this?!" Yena says to herself, shaking her head; she closes the door back and returns toward her room.

"I can't check the weather app. There's no signal." Yeonjun sets his phone back on the nightstand.

BG: "It hasn't ended yet; it's been an hour."

YJ:" We can sleep here if you want; I don't think it's going to end anytime soon."

BG: "You're right. Let's sleep then."

YJ:" Goodnight then." Yeonjun says, pulling the blankets to his neck turning over.

-5:30 AM-

I woke up with a dry throat, and I desperately needed water. I rubbed my blurry eyes and opened my door. The sun was barely outside, and it had to be early. I walked outside the room down the stairs to the kitchen.

I opened the cupboard, grabbed a glass, and filled it with ice.

The cold air seeped out the fridge as I opened it, finding the water bottle. Even if the water was already hard, I preferred having ice in my drinks.

I slowly opened the cap and poured the drink into my cup. The cold liquid relieved my throat almost immediately.

I saw the door to Beomgyu's room open. I walked over to look inside but saw nobody.

Strange, where was he? Maybe the bathroom.

I walked over to Yeonjun's room, and I peeked my head around the door.

I almost dropped my glass upon seeing the two lying in bed sleeping, there was a small amount of moonlight seeping inside, and Beomgyu was practically hugging him.

I did not expect this, but it was good; I quickly tiptoed upstairs to get Yena.

"Yena! wake up!" I slightly hit her arm.

"What!! what time is it?!" She sits up, slapping my hand away.

"Come downstairs." I grabbed her arm, leading her.

"Be quiet." I put a finger to my lips as we both quietly went downstairs.

"Look inside."

"What is- Oh my!" She whispers yelled.

"This is a big achievement! I have to take a photo!" She opens her phone.

"No! Don't wake them." I try to stop her, but she already has the phone hovering above; her finger hit the button and made a shutter noise. She didn't have the ringer off.

As the shutter went off, Yeonjun's eyes snapped open.

"What are you-" He looked around until his eyes landed to beside him where they were hugging each other. He quickly backed away.

"It's not that, and he got scared last night!" He defended himself.

"It's fine! We didn't say anything!" I try to calm him down.

"I heard her take a photo. Delete it." He pointed at Yena.

"Ok, ok." She goes to her gallery, but she deleted a different photo.

"Deleted." She lies.

"Are you sure?" He asks, eyeing her suspiciously.

"Positive, anyways good morning. I'll go wash up!" Yena runs out of the room.

"You, take care of him. I have to go shower." He walks off to the second bathroom.

What excuses they both used; wow, I laughed to myself.

I walk over beside Beomgyu, and he was sleeping peacefully. He looked like an angel, and no one would notice he's human if he accidentally entered our realm; until he spoke, of course.

"It's time to get up~." I sang, poking his face.

He stirred a little but fell still again.

"Let's go eat chicken." I sang again, his eyes opened.

"Got you; it's time to get up. Let's go." He stirs to the opposite side of the bed, away from me.

"Come on," I say, walking to the other side, kneeling.

"I don't want to." He speaks with closed eyes.

"Don't you want to eat?"

"It can wait." He turns away.

"let's go fix breakfast for the others."

"They can fix it themselves." He mumbled.

"Don't you want to thank Yeonjun for letting you sleep here?"

"Ah, you're right. Fine, let's go." He finally agrees and sits up.

"Come on, come on." I help him stand, and he rubs his tired eyes.

"Can I take a nap after we eat?"

"Sure, let's do this first." We walk toward the kitchen,

"Wow, who did all this?" Yena's eyes light up, seeing the delicious food displayed.

"Me and Beomgyu, don't eat before Yeonjun gets here."

"I'm impressed. Usually, you don't cook well." She teases, making Beomgyu slightly laugh.

"I can cook! I just have problems remembering what to do.." I trailed off.

"Sure, well, I'm sure I and yeonjun will love it." She sits down at the counter.

"What's that smell? Oh, who did this?" Yeonjun asks.

"Beomgyu helped me with this to thank you for last night."

"Oh, You didn't have to do that but Thank you." Yeonjun smiled. That's right, and everything was going to plan.

"What are we doing today?" Yena asked while twirling her eggs around.

"I thought we should go ice skating!"

"I want to do that!" Beomgyu chimes in.

"How far is it?" Yena asks.

"You take the Ski lift half a mile from here, and it's inside the small town center."

"So we're walking again? Beomgyu, how is your ankle?" Yeonjun asks.

"It doesn't hurt anymore, and I forgot I injured it."

YJ: "Then, we let's go but be extra careful."

Awe, it's so lovely how he was concerned for him...

Yena walked over to the sink to wash her plate off, "Ok, Let's all eat and get dressed!"

"We're almost there," I spoke in front of everyone, and we were more than half going toward the ski lift.

"Is it a separate lift again?" Yena asks.

SN: "I think they all are."

BG: "I can ride with Yeonjun again."

YJ:" That's fine."

"Guys, it's up ahead!" I yelled. I walked a little too fast. Even in school, I walked too fast, and it looked like I was racing somewhere.

"Stop walking so fast!" Yena says, struggling to catch a breath.

"Sorry!"

YN: "Do you guys want us to go first this time again?"

BG:" Let's go first this time."

YJ:" We'll go first."

I pushed the button to open the doors, and they walked inside. "You guys ready?" I asked, looking at them. Yeonjun holds a thumb up, I press the Green button, and they set off.

"I'm glad they're getting along." Yena smiles.

"You and me both, this mission should be easier for now." I brushed my pants off, and there were slight speckles of snow on them.

"Imagine if they're ice skating, and fall into each other." She says, daydreaming with her hearty eyes.

"Yeah, that will be a miracle." I laughed; I looked out to see them halfway across already.

"We should go to the hot tub later, but instead, let's make them enter it first."

SN: "That, That's a good plan."

"That way, they can maybe get closer." She squealed.

"You're treating this as your drama." I flicked her forehead.

"Hey! it kinda is!" She defended her thoughts.

"Do you need help?" Beomgyu asks beside me, and I was having a hard time putting my feet inside my skates.

"I can't get my heel inside, but I know this is the right size."

"I'll push it from the bottom; push your foot." He kneeled, grabbing the underside.

I push my foot down. It was going a little better than before but still not completely working.

"Let me try twisting it." He twisted the skate side to side, and my heel finally goes in.

"Thank you, anyone else having problems?"

I looked at the other two.

YN: "I think we are good." They both had skates on already.

"Move side to side, like this." Beomgyu was trying to teach Yeonjun how to skate better.

"Hey, send this image to the celestial." Yena sends the image she took from this morning to my watch; I opened the file and sent it to the Guardian office.

SN: "Do you think they'll accept it?"

YN: "They have to."

We were required to send a photo of the clients together every two weeks. It was to ensure we are making progress.

SN: "Go ahead and take a photo here too, but be discreet." She takes her phone out, taking a photo.

"We can use this photo as a backup." She saves it to her watch.

YN: "Let's skate now."

"Wow, I didn't know you're good at skating," Yeonjun says, appearing beside me.

SN: "Aha, finally better than you at something, right?" He scoffed, "I'll challenge you; let's race to the other side and back here."

"Fine, let's go, On 3." I shake his hand.

"1....2....3!" We both counted down, and we started flying past others as we skated toward the opposite side.

Yena was watching from afar with her mouth agape.

I reached the other side before, only about a second earlier than Yeonjun.

"Catch up!" I stick my tongue out at him.

As I was flying past others, Beomgyu came into view in front of me, I tried to slow down, but it didn't work.

His leg accident tripped mine, making me sling toward him; he was about to catch me.

Without thinking, I grabbed Yeonjun's arm beside me and slung him inside, and He glided toward Beomgyu's reach.

Beomgyu grabbed him inside; I tried to keep my balance but failed as everything happened so fast.

My knee gave out under me, making me fall to the ice, my hands getting burned in the process as I slid across.

Beomgyu held on to Yeonjun in his arms tightly, making sure he didn't fall. They stared at each other for a few seconds before Yeonjun realized and repositioned himself.

He fixed his jacket before looking around, his eyes resting on me.

"Soona!" Yena came kneeling beside me.

"I'm fine," I assure her, but she grabbed my hand worried.

"Your nose! Your hands!" She yelled. I looked down to see a small trail of blood from where I fell up to where I slid.

I looked back, my eyes following the trail to where it stopped at Beomgyu's feet. I didn't dare look at them, and I couldn't.

"What happened?" Yena whispered.

"Just help me off the ice, please." I dismiss her question. Yeonjun and Beomgyu rush over to me.

"Soona I-" Beomgyu began, but I quickly cut him off.

"I'm fine, Yena; let's go." I urge her to help me.

She grabs my arm to help me to my feet; Yeonjun looks at me with blank eyes; he looked as if he was trying to comprehend what just happened.

Beomgyu tried to help me by grabbing my arm. Also, I pulled away from him.

"Don't, please." my voice breaking.

"Soona.." He says as Yena, and I walked away from them.

"Here, I'll help you take these off." Yena slides the skates off my feet.

"Ah! that hurts." I grabbed my ankle in response.

"Your ankle? Do you need medicine?"

"No, I'll be fine. Just help me put my shoes on." I grabbed one shoe, sliding it on.

She grabs the other, sliding it carefully on my foot.

"What happened back there?" She asks.

"I was going to land into Beomgyu, and I didn't want to mess the mission up, so I threw Yeonjun to him instead." I grabbed my nose.

"How will it mess the mission up?" She asks, handing me a tissue.

"Just know why I did it was for that reason." I wiped my nose dry.

"I think we should leave now," Yeonjun says, coming up with Beomgyu.

"Yeah, Let's go return the shoes." Yena grabs my pair and takes them to the window with Yeonjun.

"Soona-" Beomgyu began, but I stand up walking away.

I didn't want them to apologize, and there was no need.

"Can you walk?" Yeonjun asks, eyeing my ankle, and I was limping a little due to it.

"I'm fine." I groaned out in annoyance.

"You two go ahead; we'll make it back." Yena dismisses them as we reached the ski lift.

YN: "They seem worried."

SN:" I know, but they shouldn't apologize."

YN:" Why?"

SN:" It needed to happen."

YN:" Why did you do this much for the mission?"

SN:" It's..personal." I sighed.

YN:" Personal? why?"

SN:" I noticed something I need to change."

I needed to change the breaking of rules that was beginning to happen...
