Wen Chi was busy until almost 7 oâclock and was planning to go back to his own home when he suddenly remembered his motherâs words, instructing him to come back to the old house after work.
So he turned the car around.
When he arrived home, Mrs. Wen was muttering in the living room, âHeâs not coming back, is he? Now that heâs grown up, with his wings fully hardened, heâs treating my words like a breeze past his ear.â
Wen Chi couldnât help but laugh and cry at the same time as he realized this was the image his mother had of him.
âMom, Iâm back,â Wen Chi greeted her proactively.
Sure enough, Mrs. Wenâs eyes lit up when she saw him, âYouâre back, hurry over for dinner. Knowing you were coming, I made duck soup.â
Mrs. Wen was beaming with joy as she pulled Wen Chi to the dining table.
âOkay, thanks, Mom. By the way, didnât you say you had something to discuss?â Wen Chi casually asked as he sat down.
âEat your fill first, then we can talk.â At that moment, Mrs. Wen was in no rush anymore.
Wen Chi took his time eating.
After he finished eating and sat down on the couch, Mrs. Wen immediately came over and started, âChi, itâs still about that matter, about having Huanhuan come back to be a dutiful wife and mother. Women should do less of those high-profile jobs. My friends have seen the movies Huanhuan acted in, hugging and embracing other men, itâs just not decent.â
âMom, thatâs art, and Iâve watched Huanhuanâs works too. I think theyâre quite normal and thereâs nothing inappropriate,â Wen Chi knew his mother still hadnât given up on this idea.
âI used to think it was just acting in some dramas, doing some advertisements, nothing much. But when my friends told me like this, it was hard for me to accept. Plus youâre busy, sheâs busy, my poor Warm sunlight is suffering. While you two are still young, you can have another child.â Mrs. Wen used emotion and reason to persuade him.
âMom, we do have plans, and we will take good care of Warm sunlight. Donât worry. Donât you also see the child often? Sheâs well taken care of,â Wen Chi felt a headache coming on.
âWen Chi, Iâm talking to you because I want you to discuss this with Huanhuan. It wouldnât be good if I brought it up directly with her,â Mrs. Wenâs words carried a hint of a threat.
âMom, life is finally a little peaceful for everyone; can we not stir things up, please? Iâll ask Huanhuan about it, but I wonât force her because sheâs an excellent actress. Iâm proud of her, and I hope she continues to produce great work for the audience,â Wen Chi said imploringly.
âYou talk to her first. If she doesnât agree, then I will ask her. You donât know, now that sheâs married, a wife and a mother, she should behave herself and play her role well. Look at you, youâve lost weight, with no soup or anything to eat regularly, how can that be alright?â Mrs. Wen expressed her concern.
Wen Chi smiled wryly; he clearly had gained weight.
âOkay, I got it, Mom. Donât worry about it; take good care of yourself,â Wen Chi glanced at the time; it was already past 8 oâclock. He hadnât told Huanhuan he would be at the old house.
âDonât think that just because Iâm old, you can brush me off,â Mrs. Wen said miffedly.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
No wonder people say daughters are like little cotton-padded jackets, keeping their parents warm, while sons forget their mothers once they have a wife.
âMy dear Mother Empress, I wouldnât dare, even if you gave me ten guts,â Wen Chi hurriedly said, âMom, didnât you want to go to France with your friends? The weather is very nice now; you can go out for a trip. I can help arrange the itinerary for you.â
Wen Chi thought this was a good idea. As long as he could divert the old ladyâs attention, she wouldnât spend so much time thinking about all sorts of things.
